Diner Reviews
  • "We had a great lunch at LaVecchia. The food was delicious, particularly the mushroom ravioli. Our server, Julio, took excellent care of us, and gave us most excellent advice on ordering dessert - the Panna Cotta is on the menu all the time, the most excellent chocolate hazelnut gelato is not. The gelato was to die for! Great view of downtown Reno, too. We're looking forward to going back again soon."

  • "This was our 4th time to this restaurant. Food is always excellent & service very attentive. Views of the city (Reno) are terrific from the patio, eat outside if u can. We made our reservation through Open Table (as we usually do). Because it was our 33rd anniversary, which I mentioned in the "special request box", I requested a table inside by the window. We were disappointed. We sat in the middle of the restaurant and no one even acknowledged our anniversary!!! That said, we will return but being it was such a special occasion a little acknowledgement would have gone along way. My husband wondered if we had made our reservation with a phone call if things would have been different."

  • "The food is always excellent. Had the salmon, typically don't care much for salmon. La Vecchia's version has made a convert of me! Only criticism: noisy"

  • "La Vecchia is one of my favorite restaurants in Reno. The food and service is always outstanding. I have never been disappointed. Everything from the wine list to dessert is excellent."

  • "We didn't order off the menu, but the specials were some of the best food we have ever had and the service was impeccable. When in the area,it is now a go-to place."

  • "Firstly I must say I love this place the food and service is always great. Last weekend we had a special event a 75 th b day party just a group of five ...the food was good as usual ..but the service was extremely slow and the wait person lethargic and not connected with the group at all. very unusual for la Vecchia."

  • "This time the food was not quite as good as the last few times. I order the ravioli - it was over done, stuck together and the presentation was not very appetizing. However, the eggplant appetizer was very good and the chicken dishes that my husband and mom ordered were very good. Celebrated moms 83 birthday and they didn't even bring a tiny dessert, VERY DISAPPOINTED. Have been several times since moving to Reno last year but because they didn't make my moms birthday special (and they knew it was a birthday dinner) we will probably not return. Great restaurant for all ages and the patio views are very pretty."

  • "I was in Reno for a quick 1 night stay while racing the California Enduro Series mountain bike race on Peavine Mountain. We were looking for something away from all the smelly casinos. Well, did we get lucky!! La Vecchia is about as far away as you can get from the downtown scene yet it is a short, scenic drive up the hill on Skyline Drive. We were lucky enough to get a table out on the patio, and we had one of the best views in the city. So this is all just window dressing for the real thing: the food and the service. Our server Cory was great; seriously passionate about the offerings on the menu and just a lot of fun to talk with. I went with his recommendation of one of the night's Chef's specials which was great. Overall - excellent."

  • "We returned to La Vecchia for another great dinner with friends. There was a table open out on the patio and the weather was perfect. The couple we had dinner with are from Italy and they really enjoyed the food and wine. We look forward to returning again!"

  • "Food was average. Service very good. View was. Nice but recommend getting RSVP for a window seat."

  • "After 30 years in NY, it's hard to impress me with Italian food west of the Verazzano bridge. But LaVecchia did just that. Food was fabulous, views were amazing. Had a new waiter named Peter who did a wonderful job. I was surprised every table wasn't full on a Saturday night. Maybe Reno doesn't know about this place."

  • "I recently had my graduation luncheon at LaVecchia. I had a party of 10, and we sat on the patio, enjoying a panoramic view of the city. The server, Peter, was perceptive of our purpose and let the timing move in a way that allowed us to enjoy the afternoon. Food and service was excellent and the day is a memory that far exceeded all expectations. "

  • "We were traveling. I checked RoundTable for possibilities and La Vecchia sounded interesting. The food was great, the service was great. It was a wonderful surprise! The bar was very active so it was a little noisy, but I would go there again in a heartbeat."

  • "We arrived at this unassuming restaurant as the sun was sinking. The moment we sat down and look out the picture windows along one wall, we were enchanted by the view across low hills, greying and purpling in the dusk. There were families dining, people with birthdays, neighbors chatting, even a candidate for mayor of Reno handing out leaflets. But the best part of the experience was the consistently tasty food. From bruschetta to vino to ravioli it was delightful. Our server was a bit forgetful, but it just seemed charming to us in such a welcoming environment. We're going to be in Reno for another week and plan to return for pizza (and maybe panna cotta). Go at dusk -- enjoy the lights of Reno from a distance."

  • "From the moment we walked in, until we left every one was professional, kind, great service. Our waitress was very informative about the specials and answering our questions. Our food was delivered in a timely manner and was excellent! We will definitely put this as one our favorite restaurants. Thank you for a great dinning experience."

  • "We had only been to La Vecchia's Skyline location once - several months ago with friends, and decided that we needed a return visit. What an amazing meal! We started with a Caesar salad that we were going to split - and it came out on two plates from the kitchen - a wonderful touch. For entrees, I had the Chicken Parmesan (always a favorite), and was delighted to find La Vecchia's interpretation much different than the norm: the chicken breast pieces were lightly breaded (not deep fried), and were dressed with chopped fresh tomatoes and melted fresh mozzarella cheese. My wife had pumpkin ravioli with bits of amazing sausage in the sauce. Truly wonderful food! Prices were very reasonable - so we'll definitely be here more regularly!"

  • "Had a great date night here. The staff was friendly and the bar before you sit to eat had excellent martini's! The food was outstanding. My wife loved the special; smoked salmon ravioli's and I had the lamb chop over risotto. Yum!! Wine went perfectly with the meal."

  • "Carbonara was on point! Went there for my mothers birthday and we had a wonderful dinner. Great view of downtown Reno and incredibly delicious tiramisu. I had the seafood linguini and it was decent."

  • "This was our first visit to the restaurant. We went early so we did not get to enjoy the Reno downtown views at night. Very good food and excellent service."

  • "The view from the large window in the dining room is pretty spectacular. I wish we had scheduled to be there a little bit later so we could have seen it at night, but it was still beautiful in the early evening. They have an outdoor dining space however it wasn't open as the weather wasn't warm enough yet. Can't wait to go back at a later time of day."

  • "Our group consisted of a "newly married" couple (50+) and the guys that golf together + wives. The service was terrific, good food & wine. Nice evening had by all. Several of the couples hadn't been to restaurant before & loved it! Thanks to our server, Lanna who handled the gang with ease."

  • "We found this place on tripadvisor. Best meal we had in Reno. The food is amazing. The service was top notch. Call for a reservation, recommended. Early dining is best. By 7pm the restaurant is full on a Friday night. Enjoy!"

  • "We went to celebrate my wife's birthday. We both had the seafood linguine which was quite good. I enjoyed a Caprese as well. My daughter thought her chicken Parmesan was a little disappointing. It does get noisy."

  • "We just moved to Reno and I wanted to find a special place for my husbands birthday. We had a wonderful dinner, the staff was awesome and the wine list had several of our favorites from Eldorado CA. From now on this will be a place that we go for a wonderful Italian dinner."

  • "Nice out of the way location. Food very good. I've never had a bad meal here. Prices very reasonable. For non-Italian diners they always have a few special items that are just as good as their specialty. Salads and vegetable choices are very fresh. Don't seem to be a handful of greens out of a bag but freshly made. Noise level can get a little intense if they are busy. Probably best if you make reservations if planning to dine during the traditional busy hours. On nicer days they have outside dining. I recommend at least a try if you have never been here before."

  • "Our first visit recommended by a friend. It was excellent. Only drawback was the excessive noise level - difficult to talk and be heard. However, it was a sunday night and crowded. Noise abatement in the ceiling would be a plus. The handicap parking spot is in violation with no sign on the building. City can resolve that issue."

  • "This is my second time at this restaurant. I am from New York and visit Reno twice a year on business. I found this restaurant with some associates on our last trip. We loved it then and we loved it again on or second try. Great food, Great view and Great service. A true winner in Reno."

  • "We try to come here once month, They have a good wine list a wood fired pizza oven. The pizzas are tasty with thin crusts, the view is lovely and we always have good service. They have a Monday night special any Pizza and a bottle of wine for $25.00 which we usually split and add a salad which is good value and Tuesday there is no corkage so it is truly BYOB."

  • "We were seated right away. Water and bread were delivered almost immediately. Our server took our order in a good amount of time. He was very polite and personable. He was also well versed on the menu. Food was delicious. My only disappointment was that a little pasta was not included on the plate with the entree."

  • "GO! First time I've been the for lunch and it was fantastic! It's easier for my wife and I to have lunch dates (kids are in school) so, we go somewhere different each time and I'm glad I choose La Vecchia. It was a memorable lunch."

  • "La Vecchia has been consistently wonderful since it opened at this location until just recently. I've dined there twice in the last 6-7 weeks and have enjoyed the same great service and ambience as always, but the food has fallen short. The linguine with seafood was flat tasting, pasta overlooked and the seafood flavorless. The romaine salad with feta was very bad, soggy and drenched in dressing. The ravioli special was, both times, turkey and cranberries which sounds awful- time for a new special? The bruschetta appetizer with rock shrimp was fair, the shrimp coated in a gluey smoked mozzarella that didn't work. This place is much loved and I hope the recent experiences I've had are just isolated incidences."
