Diner Reviews
  • "We went to la Cecconis cucina on recommendation of friends. The food was very good, for children portions were halved and we loved the fact that we could look in the kitchen and see the food being prepared. The price was very reasonable for the quality and there is a real buzz in the restaurant."

  • "My husband and I were staying in Santa Monica and asked the concierge for a recommendation for a great Italian restaurant. He told us about La Vecchia Cucina. What a delight!! Great service, unbelievable food. The Burrata salad was exquisite. Homemade Limoncello was to die for. Definitely a new favourite. Thank you!!"

  • "A great neighborhood haunt that we frequent often. Everyone is very nice. Their penne arrabiata and burrata salad are both yummy! Also, a very well-priced happy hour with good wines and a nice selection."

  • "For years I made La Vecchia a regular stop whenever I was in Santa Monica (about 6 times a year) . I enjoyed the lively ambiance, the food and the service. All were top shelf. I hadn't been to SM for about 4 years now but my wife and I decided to celebrate a bit with an extended weekend and first stop was back to LV. The service remained exceptional and the restaurant once again had a lively vibe to it even after 8 on a Wednesday. The food was excellent. I had to try my old favorite pasta, penne arrabiata and was happy to find it was still delicious - spicy and tasty, as well as properly al dente. My wife had spaghetti and garlic and oil and thought it was perfect. She paired it with a caprese salad that featured excellent fresh mozzarella"

  • "Food was ok, table was not great, service was ok. The olive oil that came with the bread was way too garlicky"

  • "Best spaghetti and meatballs in So CAL. Their Porterhouse steak cannot be beat by the best steakhouses in LA."

  • "My family and I were on vacation for Spring Break. We researched dinner spots in the Venice Beach area and, thanks to the reviews on Open Table, we made a great choice! The food and service were amazing. One of our favorite dining experiences in Southern California..."

  • "I have been going to la Vecchia for years and it is still one of my favorites. When the owner works in the kitchen with the staff daily you know there will be consistency! Great menu and great quality."

  • "I have been coming here for years and it never disappoints! The foccaccia is beyond fresh and every dish that I've had - salads, pizzas, pastas, meats and seafood is well-prepared and fresh. Love this place. The only slight criticism I have is that it can be very noisy so definitely not romantic or a place to have a serious discussion."

  • "This is still my favorite Italian restaurant in LA. However, I have learned my lesson not to go there on a Friday night and I am guessing Saturday would be more of the same. The food was great as always, but the service was just fair. It took three times of asking to bring more bread and drinks. And, every time I eat there, I request the same table, which I am always granted. This time, not so. Their reason, too busy. So again, lesson learned. I will not go there on a Friday or Saturday night again, They don't accommodate table requests and once again, the service was just adequate. Every other night, for sure, for sure."

  • "The food was good, but the tables are a bit too close together. If you don't want to overhear your neighbors conversation, nor wish to engage in chit chat with them, not the place to go to. On the other hand.... may be just what you're looking for.... Our server was very good and personable, not an easy thing when a place is hopping. Obviously popular with the locals, at least from our experience."

  • "We go to La Vecchia whenever we want a fabulous meal, great bread, great service and friendly atmosphere. It's by far the best Italian food in Los Angeles. The servers are the best and the pastas are fantastic. We are there once a week!"

  • "We ordered an appetizer and two lobster pasta dishes. The appetizer was decent but a little off. We ordered the meat and cheese plate and usually I’m a big fan of that but there wasn’t anything that blew me away. The lobster dishes were decent but not as savory as I would have expected at a nice place like this. I still enjoyed, but have had much better."

  • "This year my family and I decided to go to La Vecchia for our Dine LA experience. We are Santa Monica natives, but for some reason had never made it here. Not only was the waiter attentive, but they added two seats at the last minute for us. The food selection was fantastic and dessert was superb. I highly recommend this place."

  • "My Sicilian born wife and I tried La Vecchia for a DineLA late lunch and “What a surprise!” My chilled seafood salad had lotsa shrimp & lobster pieces hiding among sliced calamari rings. Throw in haricots verts lightly coated with a tasty lemon dressing and I was off to a great start. The Scampi La Vecchia was “delizioso” and brought back memories of dining in Trabia. Fresh baked house bread was a sinfully good partner made for dipping in the spicy garlic wine broth of my wife’s clams and mussels 1st course. Her sliced filet mignon topped with an arugula salad with lemon dressing made the entire late lunch a complete success. A few more accolades: large portions, great variety, excellent service, delectably different dessert menu."

  • "We trekked down to La Vecchia again for the DineLA special meal. Often times, options are limited and portions are smaller than normal. Not here. Everything was first rate as it has always been in our many years of dining here. The fried calamari was terrific, very tender with a great slightly spicy marinara sauce as was the seafood salad. The enter cut filet rivaled that of the best steakhouses, perfectly preparrd; the knocci and the rotolo alla brace, a rolled stuffed chicken was fantastic. The melting chocolate cake was also perfect and the gelato and panna cotta were also excellent, better than we had recently experienced at a top rated Beverly Hills restaurant. Service too was great. I highly reccomend this restaurant."

  • "Nice restaurant experience. My only complaint is that it is a tight squeeze in there regarding seating. Tables are close so conversations are not private. Food is wonderful. I like this place."

  • "I saw this place on the dineLA list so I thought I'd give it a try. The place was packed but since we'd made a reservation we were able to sit right down, which I appreciated. The food was incredible and the service was fantastic. The portions were huge, by the end of the night I was stuffed and could barely eat my dessert. I will definitely be going back and recommending this place to my friends!"

  • "An outstanding dinner!!! Everything tasted fresh. Some of the best calamari we've ever had! A new standard has been set. Our server was patient, informative, and was excellent about checking on us. A great dining experience."

  • "My wife and I had a delighful meal of crunchy calamari fritti, a seafood salad that not only tasted wonderful but looked like something from the cover of Bon Appetit magazine, and a garlic -lavored linguine with shrimp and pesto. The house bread was far better than average. We were, however, a bit disappointed with the rigatoni bolognese which had only teeny specks of meat and did not have the rich robust flavor one wants in a bolognese sauce. The restaurant was not noisy or crowded and was a perfect venue for a romantic lunch."

  • "Absolutely some of the best Italian I've had since moving to LA from NY. The black truffle gnocchi is possibly one of the best things that I have ever eaten! I was with a group of five and I have to say the noise level was energetic but not obnoxious in anyway. Every single dish was in the range of very good to excellent including the desserts."

  • "Packed and roaring at 6:30 Saturday night. Two available tables for a party of 4 so we are taken to the one in the middle of the roar. I request the quieter area against the wall, but after a being ignored for a few minutes, I ask again. This time I am told that that table is reserved - though no notice of this is on the table. 40 minutes later, a couple are seated at the wall table. in the interim, other wall tables had been vacated and re-occupied. Needless to say, I do not believe the excuse for not moving our party to a table off the main pathway of traffic and the center of noise. It took over an hour and a half for our food to be served and consumed, during which across table conversation was extremely limited and mostly impossible."

  • "The food was great. The tables are quite narrow and petite and you can elbow your neighboring tablemates. The sound level was excessively high, making everyone shout. Food was outstanding and the service was good."

  • "This is by far my most favourite Italian restaurant when I visit Santa Monica. The food is exquisite - pastas, pizzas or meat dishes. Service is friendly, and no matter how busy the night is, the servers still manage to make you feel as tough you are their only patron. Portions are generous, too generous! But you'll have a hard time leaving anything in your plate! The wine list is quite nice too. Definitely recommend."

  • "We were visiting the LA area and this restaurant got great reviews on Open Table and Zagat. We were welcomed warmly by the host, after choosing to sit at the bar, Bobby, the bar tender took excellent care of us. The food was authentic and well-prepared, the service was friendly and efficient and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves! We look forward to having dinner here on our next trip south."

  • "I live in Beverly Hills, regularly dine at best Italian restaurants in BH and throughout the city. I hate to say it in a way - because it spoils the secret, but La Vecchia deserves to be recognized as the singular best Italian restaurant in LA. Food, Service, Pricing - everything is simply done to perfection. I cannot wait to go back - it is worth the drive from wherever you are located. Note that it has a great bar too. While tables are pretty close to one another its nowhere near the way they pack them in like sardines at say - Il Pastaio or other well known and attended restaurants that can't hold a candle to the food and service of La Vecchia. My compliments to the chef, ownership, and staff!"
