Diner Reviews
  • "Outstanding. We dined here Easter Sunday night and the food was amazing, the wine list amazing. Highly recommend."

  • "Had regular 3 dishes + dessert. Didnot see any creativity or caring from the dishes. It's more like a regular fine dinning restaurant you can find all over the US. There is no reason that this restaurant could stand out and get one Michelin star. Had dinner at other Michelin one star restaurants before, and dishes there were more unique and pleasant. I would say it's a good restaurant with great service and atmosphere but don't consider it as a Michelin restaurant."

  • "Best meal I have had in 20 years! Service was exquisite. Price is high but well worth it. Never tasted such a fantastic blend of flavors. "

  • "the food is very good for this level of fine dining, very subtle smell and taste, nothing is overwhelming, the salad s sauce is ok, the frog leg and duck s breast were very good, some minor details concerning the service ( very good but i m a little bit picky when dining in a $$$$ restaurant) the waiter ( again ,very polite ) put my knife and fork together on the same side , side by side , my hubby and my mom had theirs on each side of the plate, and he did not ask for coffee or tea at the end of the meal ( which we were ok for that night because we were too full anyway but usually ,he should ask )"

  • "Expected an amazing experience-not! Surprised when a couple seated in the middle of the dining room turned out to be models videotaping a commercial. The photographer circled the table with his camera & large light for approx 25-30 min. His lights were beamed in our faces. When we complained,re the photo shoot at such an inappropriate time, the answer was "this is the only time the chefs can prepare food". We moved but with an open dining room the light was still obnoxious. The manager stated, "sorry you're being inconvenienced", nothing more. Sommelier only refilled our glasses a few times. We had to pour our own. Would not consider returning and would advise others that there are far superior restaurants in the Napa Valley."

  • "The wine pairings were very good but food was disappointing and the wait staff pretentious. This was by far the most expensive dinner we had during our stay in Napa and the most disappointing food (I definitely would not recommend the chef's tasting menu)."

  • "We were very pleased with our evening at La Toque. We appreciated the special attention given for our Wedding Anniversary: complementary champagne, the "best table in the house". candles in the dessert. I was particularly impressed that when one of the menu items ordered was unsatisfactory, an immediate and promptly served replacement was offered. thanks for a memorable evening. Susan Kennelly"

  • "We really enjoyed the food & service. My only disappoint is for the amount they charge the portions are way to small."

  • "La Toque hides in Napa's Westin Hotel and is a culinary delight. The wait staff is exceptional, the sommelier top-notch. The Tasting menu with thoughtful wine pairings is not to be missed, but any of the intriguing menu selections are exceptional. We've visited the restaurant at least a half dozen times and it never disappoints. Not for those on a budget, but by all means go for special occasions. I recommend going at or after sundown. The ambience is much nicer without the daylight that comes in until then, depriving the restaurant of some of its romantic appeal."

  • "The meal and wine were fantastic. We went for our anniversary and they treated us like royalty. Highly recommend for every special occasion!"

  • "Our experience at La Toque was average at best. Our waiter was nice but was not too terribly engaging. Despite the restaurant being less than 50% full, the sommelier seemed like she was in a rush each time she poured a new wine. The dining room attendant left the best impression, as she as attentive and friendly. The food was also a mixed experience. The duck and pork were spectacular with the wine pairing; the crab was average; and the rib-eye and lamb were terrible. Both of the latter dishes were extremely salty and the lamb had excessive amounts of cumin. Perhaps we went on an off night or chose the wrong entrees; regardless of the reason, we were less than impressed by this restaurant and don't plan on returning."

  • "We went here for our anniversary dinner. As soon as we arrived, they wished us 'happy anniversary' and as soon as we were seated, they gave us a complimentary glass of champagne. It was a very nice touch. We went to LaToque when it was at their other venue many years ago, and it is nice to see it is still a wonderful experience."

  • "Wow, what a unique and exquisite dining experience. The food was amazing, truly something you've never experienced. The pairings were spot on. The only thing missing was the fact that the restaurant decor was average."

  • "We had another wonderful dining experience at La Toque recently, our favorite restaurant in the world. Everything about it rings true- the atmosphere, setting, service and the food is all perfection. Chef Ken has an attentive but unobtrusive staff that anticipates your every need. We have dined all over the Napa and Sonoma Valleys as well as San Francisco and this place is without a doubt the top of the tops. Expensive yes, but every special occasion there is made even more special. The wine pairing is amazing in terms of the way the wines are thoughtfully selected to enhance the dishes. We have been fans of Chef Ken since his LA days on the Sunset Strip and have never been disappointed in the food preparation."

  • "I enjoyed the fresh cold asparagus soup and the lamb loin dish. My husband enjoyed the ravioli dish with the bean. The menu is quite diversified, and offers a great selection for different tastes."

  • "We live in San Francisco and get a chance to eat at some great restaurants often. We wanted a special place for our anniversary in Napa. We wanted an outdoor restaurant, and this was a patio with high booths that blocked direct view of parking lot. I did the 4 course savory tasting with wine pairing and my wife did the vegetable tasting menu. Although the savory selections were better, neither option was substantial or particularly memorable. . We found ourselves going through 3 plates of bread while we waited between courses. We were there for 3 hours-not a big problem-but there was a LOT of down time between servings. The meal was over $300, which really was a bit hard to swallow considering our less than impressive overall experience."

  • "Food was good but not great. Servers seemed confused and perhaps lacked training. Sommelier was the highlight everything else was less than memorable."
    Dined on 3/21/2014
  • "We went there for my husband's birthday, they called me a few days before the reservation and asked if this is for any special occasion. We followed the server's suggestion to order and the food was really good. They also brought up a cake with candle which really surprised us, overall it was a wonderful experience."

  • "One star in the Michelin guide certainly creates expectations. Well, those expectations were not met. We were a party of three and got the 3 plates dinner with wine pairing and dessert. The carpatsio (spelling?) was unremarkable by itself but the pairing with the rose made it better. I had the quail which was good, and the others had the ravioli which they really liked. The rib eye was dry and the overall taste of the plate was blunt. One of us got a lamb based plate for which he said it was OK. The accompanying wines were reasonable but not anything special. Finally the dessert was below standards. For such food experience, a bloated bill ($400+ for 3) adds insult to injury. I will look for other alternatives next time I visit the area."

  • "The service was excellent. Peter explained dishes and answered questions. He was very helpful and professional. The food was quite good and the wine pairing well done."

  • "From the moment we arrived until the moment we left, the staff were helpful, professional and friendly. We had a 3 course plus dessert meal with matched wine. Magnificent food and wine, amazing flavours. Simply brilliant"

  • "Dined on 3/12/14. Dinner for two included the Chef's Tasting and Vegetarian Tasting with respective wine pairings. Everything was "good". Nothing about the meal, the wine, or the service, was great, memorable or exceptional. Lots of other places available in the Napa Valley that can knock your socks off for far less money."

  • "The food at La Toque was great. There are two ways to order. A prix fix menu or build your own courses (3+dessert, or 4+dessert). The pricing was a tad on the higher level but I feel it was well worth it. We went with the 3 courses + dessert and the food was very visually appealing as well as yummy. If I had to be picky, I found to be a tad salty as I think it is for the wine paring. I am no foodie so this was my guess. Overall my wife and I had a great time. The service was EXCEPTIONAL. Felt extremely taken care of."

  • "Great food- terrible experience! The food was great but definitely felt we were a bother to our server! From start to finish wished we had chosen a different restaurant for our dinner! There are many, many lovely restaurants to choose from in the Napa Valley. I will choose differently on our next visit. The server made us feel like we weren't worthy it eating there. Not rich enough, who knows why?"

  • "Elegant modern décor, outdoor patio for warm nights, spacious and comfortable seating, unique table covers, luxurious place settings, a semi-open kitchen, well prepared and perfectly cooked meats and seafood, super fresh vegetables locally sourced and very much in season, superb attention to detail with beautiful presentations, carefully thought out wine pairings that truly enhanced each bite, knowledgeable and attentive service, what can go wrong here? Not being able to dine here often enough."

  • "Perfect night from start to finish! Awesome service, food, paired wines and ambiance, all stellar for our romantic night out. The attention to detail was notable and appreciated."

  • "This was one of the top ten meals of my lifetime. We arrived and were seated promptly. When we mentioned that we like watching the kitchen, they quickly moved us to the chefs table! What a great surprise. The wait staff was very friendly and helpful, but not overly attentive. The courses were perfectly portioned and perfectly timed. Dinner was an adventure. The sommelier was fantastic and the pairings were dead on. Overall, an amazing experience."

  • "LaToque's annual/seasonal Truffle dinners are a dining experience that shouldn't be missed. All 7 courses are prepared with fresh black truffles and when accompanied with the wine pairings are sensational."

  • "Service was really really slow. I've been to lots of places at this "level" of dining and this was by far the longest between courses."
    Dined on 2/22/2014
  • "Great place but much to fancy for my simple and limited taste. However the waiter suggested an off the menu simple steak that fit my style and that was very nice and accommodating. Fancy places are lost on me but my wife and adult children were impressed and I liked the fact the waiter was very willing to help me find something even though I am a Beverly Hillbilly type guy. Definitely recommend for foodies."

  • "Fully deserving of the Michelin toque or "star". Exceptional dinner in every way from quality of food to service to wine service. Professional yet accommodating staff."

  • "La Toque is the only restaurant in the Bay Area that was willing to help me set up a personalized dining experience for our31st wedding anniversary dinner. La Toque's pastry chef, Debby, agreed to make a Gran Marnier for us, even though it is not on the menu. The wine and food pairings were creative and well executed. For its, this was a peak dining experience. Thank you La Toque staff!"

  • "This was my third time to La Toque. The food was wonderful though portions seemed a bit smaller. Wine list extensive (an understatement). Waitpersons very knowledgeable but seemed a little understaffed as a large party of 18, impacted in a negative way for the rest of us. I know it is a small thing (but we are paying pretty big bucks!) but they were a bit inattentive about pouring our wine, and such things."

  • "We arrived with two other couples and with great expectations. My wife and I both had the wine pairing. The sommelier was dry at best and not very personable which was disappointing. The service team were on point, however we did ask to split the check between the three couples if possible and were told that it was just a stroke of the key away and wouldn't be a problem. The food was very good (not great) and the pairings were okay. The night was moving along at a decent pace until the pick up of our main dish. It then took about 45 minutes to receive desert and the check, which we had to get up and ask for. When we finally received the check it had not been split up and we had to ask them again. Not what I expected for a $500 meal!"

  • "It was my wife's birthday, and everything was perfect. The food was incredible, the service, the attentive staff, sommelier, pace of meal, friendliness, everything was really top notch. This is an extremely well-run and efficient restaurant with well-prepared gourmet food. This was one on the most enjoyable meals start to finish we've had anywhere and we've eaten all over the world. The GM stopped by to ask us how our dinner was and we told him the same thing. He then surprised us with an after dinner drink. Couldn't have been better, we'll remember that dinner for a long time."

  • "Thank you to Daniel our server and to the many chefs at La Toque for a simply wonderful dinner. Everything, and I mean, everything wes outstanding. I have never had antelelpe so tender and tasty, and the rib eye was cooked to perfection. The duck breast was also excellent. It was a wonderful experience and deserving of more than one-star. The wine service was also top drawer."
