Diner Reviews
  • "This place never disappoints. A bit different from most of Little Italy restaurants, with a character all its own. Menu somewhat upscale with unusually good specials, but at reasonable prices. Pleasantly quiet. Attentive service. Public parking nearby. Worth putting on your list of Baltimore classics."

  • "Calamari appetizer was great, serving was too big for two people. Loved the fresh pasta. Would return next time I am in area. Only complaint was that we ordered a salad to be split and it came to the table as one for us to split- a minor hassle but the house salad and dressing was fresh and nicely prepared."

  • "Stayed over in Inner Harbor on the way home to NY. Found La Tovola online and took a chance. It was just a short walk from our hotel. Somewhat of a no-frills setting, but the food was excellent. Caprese salad (my name for it) had the freshest mozzarella we have had in a long time. Scallops and freshly made pasta were very good and presentation was well done. Gelato was dense and fresh. Waiter was terrific (from Long Island NY too)."

  • "The food and service were excellent. We were a larger group and there was plenty of space. We had a reservation and arrived early and were able to be seated with no problem. Everyone enjoyed their meals. I only took a star off of "service" because I had told the waitress we were celebrating a 30th birthday so the restaurant chose a dessert (which was delicious) and put a candle in it, but they also charged us for the dessert. For a party that was spending the amount of money we did, I thought they could have given the birthday girl the $7 dessert. But otherwise, it was fabulous!!"

  • "The lasagna bolognese and the caesar salad were amazing! The server rec the house chianti and it was delicious and perfect for pasta."

  • "My wife and I had dinner last Saturday. First off, the pasta is home made and wonderful. However, if you are not paying attention you could miss out. Like other Italian restaurants I've been to La Tavola does not serve pasta with its entrees. You can order a pasta dish as an entree or if you having meat or fish you need to remember to order a pasta course. Second, the veal was excellent. Tender scallopine in a tomato/olive sauce. Just great. My wife had the gnocchi - it was both excellent and enough to kill a horse. Our waiter could describe the menu so well that it felt like you were eating it as he walked through the specials of the evening. Nearly 50 years of eating in restaurants and I'd never had that happen before."

  • "This is the second time we have eaten at La Tavola. Everything was excellent again and the friends we brought with us enjoyed it as well."

  • "First time ever, I had an entree at an Italian restaurant where you were served mashed potatoes rather than pasta on a dinner entree. Never was told by the waiter either. Very disappointing experience overall for a Little Italy restaurant."

  • "We go here quite often. This is where we go for comfort food (my husband is Italian) and great food! All the pasta is made in house which we love! The service is always great and they make us feel like family. We had our rehearsal dinner here and every time we come back they ask us how married life is and what's going on. We love it here! Everything I have ever ordered is great! All the desserts are great too, but our absolute favorite is Chef Carlo's cheesecake! In Little Italy this is our go-to place!"

  • "If you love Italian food then this restaurant is worth a drive from Washington DC. The food is excellent, beautifully presented and authentic in its preparation. It also is nice that the restaurant is within easy walking distance of the Inner Harbor."

  • "The food was outstanding. It danced on the palette, regardless of what we ordered. Thoroughly enjoyed the meal and staff."

  • "This is a wonderful go to for us. The pasta is always fresh and perfectly cooked. I can trust the recommendations of the servers, not only for the food, but also for wine pairings. The lamb and fish dishes are truly devine."

  • "Although we have been to restaurant a few times for lunch, we are from out of town, we took our friend from the Ellicott City, who had never been. Food was great, as was service."

  • "The service was great from the moment we walked in.The food was very good and the restaurant was very clean. They do a very good homemade pasta and prepare them nicely. My only negative comment was my pasta dish was very small to be $18. It looked like a side dish oppose to a main course."

  • "La Tavola was terrific...great food, service attentive bur reserved and the owner came to the table and talked about his history. A delightful place that celebrated a new addition, our Grandson, with the family. Thank you! Rich and Faye Ciccotto"

  • "March 1 was cool and comfortable. I have been to La Tavola for a late lunch before but this was the first time for dinner. The service was a little slow and since we had tickets for a play, maybe we should not have ordered the canoli. All in all, good food and great Italian ambiance. We will be back"

  • "The staff is phenomenal! Everyone is personable, friendly, efficient, and professional, too. Food is interesting, the menu is full of good choices, and one feels like he is back in Italy. There are two nice private rooms for meetings, too. The catering list is also excellent."

  • "It was very quiet and not very many patrons. This made me a little worried for such a large restaurant. The service was slow for no one being in the restaurant. My husband ordered the scallops and was shocked that there was no pasta. Most Italian restaurants serve pasta with all dishes."

  • "The best restaurant in Little Italy. Great food without the cost and pretensions of Aldo's. And they didn't "dumb down" the menu for restaurant week as some (many?) do"

  • "La Tavola has become our favorite Little Italy Restaurant. The food is good and despite the fact that it was very busy when we went, the noise level was moderate and service good."

  • "First time to La Tavola for lunch with freinds and was very pleased. The food, the service and the ambiance was great. One thing that was a real distraction, however is the air-freshener smell. I want my Italian places to smell of garlic and Noni's cooking. Not enough to keep me away - I'll just make sure I get a table in the back corner. Ciao, tutti!"

  • "Outstanding meal! My girlfriend and I went here this past week for restaurant week, and had an amazing meal. Jose was our server, and he was great. Not too intrusive, but still attentive."

  • "Terrific appetizer; 3 of 4 entrees were really good"

  • "My girlfriend and I arrived relatively early on a Saturday night (5:45pm). As such, the restaurant was not crowded, at least not initially. The service was exceptional and the pacing of the meal was well coordinated, so that we did not feel the least bit rushed. The entrees were both very good, especially the grilled fish, which was one of the specials. However, the salad we had was a bit bland, and the bread could have been warm and fresh-baked, but it wasn't. The dessert was very good and well presented. Overall, this is a solid place to eat for a special occasion. It is not as romantic as it might be, but it is OK. It is also good for larger groups."

  • "This was our third visit to La Tavola in two years. We love the food and appreciate the good service. One flaw during this visit was that our waiter didn't advise us of the day's specials. He may have thought that we were there for the Restaurant Week menu since we asked to see it. After we heard another waiter inform patrons at a nearby table of the specials, we decided we were pleased with the choices we had already made. I loved the seafood linguini! We look forward to a return trip to the restaurant."

  • "Overall I'd say our experience at La Tavola was average, which surprised me considering it had such high ratings on TripAdvisor. The food and service wasn't bad, though nothing was what I'd consider memorable. I ordered the Linguine with Truffles, which was tasty but was overwhelmed with a really heavy cream sauce and did not have even the slightest scent or taste of the ground truffles that the menu claimed was in the dish. Portions were so-so, though some of the dishes were way overpriced for what you get. My friend's fiance ordered the eggplant parmesan w/ a side of spaghetti and we were shocked that the restaurant charged him $8.50 for the tiniest side plate of pasta and sauce...that kind of nickel-and-diming is disappointing."

  • "We had a late reservation on a Saturday night, was sat in the main dining room. Everyone we interacted with was super friendly and very knowledgeable about the menu and the food. Our waitress was actually italian which was great, and knew a lot about italian dining. Everything we ate was great, you can't go wrong with whatever you order, and there was so much we want to try still, we'll need to go back soon!"

  • "This is our 5th or 6th visit to La Tavola and its always excellent food and service. We enjoy the fresh flavors and perfect portion size."

  • "With all of the changes going on in Little Italy and serious competition from notable Italian places. It's nice to know this place is still quentisentially Italian."

  • "I came with my wife for Valentines Day. We were seated right away. It was a very nice set up and the people there were very polite. I probably would have given better ratings if the valentine day menu wasn't pre set. It didn't give me much to choose from. For the money i paid, I would have liked to have had a much bigger selection so I could get what I want and not be limited. But over all, the experience wasn't bad. I just don't think that it was complete."

  • "From the moment we walked in the service was friendly and attentive. Mike (host/manager?) was great as was our server. The only issue (which really wasn't) was that I ordered the special and I had thought that I heard that it came with risotto Milanese, but all that was on the plate was the fish and green beans. I just figured I had heard wrong. Half way through I heard the waiter telling the table next to us the same thing. Since the fish and beans were delicious and plenty of food I didn't feel the need to say anything, but I do love risotto. Everyone at the table enjoyed their meal. I would definitely go back."

  • "Food and service were poor. The pasta was overcooked and unfortunately the sauce tasted like it was straight out of a can from the store. Not worth the $20 per plate cost. The service was awful and the servers and managers were very unprofessional. I would not recommend this place."

  • "Ls Tavola is our favorite Italian restaurant in Little Italy and in all of Baltimore. The quality of the food and of the service is always first rate. My wife almost always gets one of the fish specials cooked in parchment paper. Very fresh fish, lots of herbs and a simple white wine sauce. I defer to one of the veal dishes. This time it was the Norccina with olives, tomatoes and a hint of pesto. Fresh home made pasta is amazing served with a marinara sauce. Get a half or whole portion to split. We always receive top notch service from Bill one of the excellent wait folks at La Tavola."

  • "While this was a nice restaurant, it was a bit too open to be romantic, which does not allow a intimate private conversation. it had ok décor, but it was just a open room with chairs and table. However, I love Italian food, the appetizers were so flavorful and great, it made me tingle inside. However, I was not too impressed with the main course, my husband ordered the veal in cream sauce, and I ordered the punesstta-i think that is how it is spelled pasta, neither of us liked it too much. I would still visit this location again, but I would try something different."
