Diner Reviews
  • "Service was terrible. Waitress brought wrong food, someone else brought right food, but when the bill came she said the prices listed for the wrong food were the same so no problem. She then took credit card and ran it through on someone else's bill. When this was pointed out, she said she'd reverse the charge on the wrong bill, but couldn't give a paper receipt for that credit and two days later it's still on my charge statement. Food was good but, as usual, expensive - $20 for six mediocre oysters - which you expect at the Broadmoor. You don't expect incompetent service. After 50 some years of loyalty I won't be going back."

  • "We had the ribeye, potatoes and onion rings. The steak was WONDERFUL. Full of flavor and cooked perfectly. Great service. A nice restaurant in the Broadmoor. The drinks were unique."

  • "I love eating at the Tavern. Don't miss the Steak Tartare. We tried the Trout, and while I'm usually not a fan of fish, it was excellent. You can't go wrong with this historic gem."

  • "This used to be one of our faves, the food is pricey, but we used to think it was worth it. We had the pork chop which was fine, but the spicy Brussels sprouts were extremely greasy, we had the banana cake for dessert . It was like a dried up piece of packaged banana bread."

  • "We booked a table for 10 with our best friends for a reunion. Some of us ordered steak and lobster and others soup and salad. The lobster was a crawdad and the baked potato was cold. My husband said his potato was even hard, not fully cooked. This restaurant used to be one of our favorites, sad to say we won't go back."

  • "Filet Mignon ordered to be medium well done was well done throughout. French Onion soup was bland, somewhat tasteless. Waitress kindly replaced it with a superb tomato soup, the best tomato soup we had ever tasted. The salmon ordered was perfect, especially with the sauce added. Our waitress and the other staff members were friendly, courteous and very helpful. We loved Le Jardin. Will come back for lunch to see it in the daylight."

  • "We were ecstatic to finally try any dining at the Braodmoor. La Tavern seemed like a good place to start after hearing of their legendary steaks. We were severely disappointed in the trite food. We found that the more domestic restaurants and steak houses at a fraction of the cost offer far better food. My prime rib, aside from a tasty rub on the trimming, was dry, tough and mundane. My wife's braised beef was little more than a nice looking chunk of pot roast with an unextrordinary sauce on a bed of spaetzle that doesn't compete with a dive german spot we frequent. The only truly special element is the outstanding service. From the moment we walked in until we left we were treated like royalty. It almost made it worth returning."

  • "I have ben going to the Broadmoor for 50+ years. The new decor is terrible. It looks like Mimi's Cafe. And the loss of the Mayan Room was very sad. The Broadmoor has always been loved for it's stately elegance. The first redo was a disappointment for many and this is much worse. Sorry to see the change. The food was embarrassing. I was entertaining 3 guest for a special memorial. The shrimp louie was 5 medium shrimp cut in half on one leaf of romaine, 3 tiny tomato slices, 3 hard boiled egg slices, and 3 slices of hearts of palm. It was anemic-looking. The "salad" that comes with the sandwiches is 2 tablespoons of lettuce."

  • "Celebrating a friend's birthday. Oysters on half shell - heavenly! Trout, salmon, sole and prime rib - all prepared perfectly...DELICIOUS. Excellent wine paired with entrees. Fabulous baked Alaska for dessert. Our server Rachel was pro in every way....we will go again and soon. Love the Broadmoor and all the offerings available."

  • "This is a place that you are paying resort prices on decent food. Are reservations were at 7:30. It was my wife's birthday, they served her a piece of pecan pie, and charged us $10.00. The steaks were less tasty than your local chain steak house. It was disappointing that the food I ordered was unavailable at a prime dinning time. The prime rib out at 7:30 pm on a Saturday night? In addition, not even a complimentary desert for the disappointment nor my Wife's birthday? We didn't even get a visit from the Manager to apologize for the unavailable menu items I wanted; prime rib or lobster. If you are charging resort prices for average food, the service and maintenance for your guest should be to the resort level. Just my two cents."

  • "The dinner and service was outstanding. The salmon was moist and flavorful- the best I have had. The dessert was OK- could have skipped. Dancing after dinner was very nice as well. Would highly recommend."

  • "Poor quality regarding one entre. Service was substandard. Wrong restaurant choice for anniversary dinner."

  • "On my first evenings dining experience, I ordered the cauliflower augratin, the cauliflower was too hard and the sauce while very well flavored was kind of runny, it all seemed under cooked"

  • "Our dinner was a disappointment. The Dover sole was over cooked and couldn't be cut with a fork. Dover sole is one of the mildest fish available. It's delicate flavor and texture were ruined served over a spinach that was prepared with strong flavored fish stock. The side dishes served were mashed Yukon Gold potatoes, and the texture of the potatoes was slimy and goopy; The Mac and cheese was unimaginative. All in all, we would NOT recommend this restaurant."

  • "We had the short ribs (very good) trout (excellent) crab appetizer (excellent) and the Tavern Cut Prime Rib (very good). Service was excellence and the decor and ambiance were typical Broadmoor (hard to find any better)."

  • "Our reservation was at 5:30 pm on a Saturday night. Too early for the band, which started at 8pm. I suggest making a reservation closer to that time. No other music until then. The Oyster Rockefeller was absolutely out of this world. So tender and delicious. The barley soup was salty and the meat was chewy, I would order a salad instead next time. The prime rib was superb and the waiter put a candle in my husband's desert which was special. Check out there specials Sun-Thurs from 5-6. I will definitely go again."

  • "We went to The Tavern to celebrate our daughter's 18th birthday. The staff was responsive but our waiter was awkward and we had to wait for long periods of time to clear our plates, offer dessert and bring us the check. The food was not that hot when it arrived and the flavor was very bland for all of our dishes. They did their best but just didn't seem up to the quality of The Broadmoor."

  • "We were able to get a last minute reservation for lunch. What a surprise! Totally updated and so beautiful. Staff of course is spot on and seemless from start to finish...then tho our waitress went off duty there was none of that stuff about closing out her tickets, etc. Food excellent but on the skimpy side which still left me comfortably full without, stuffed. Prices right where you should expect for service, food, ambience."

  • "I loved the Dine at Dusk deal. For those looking to try fancy dishes for a great price, this is perfect! The Manhattan Clam Chowder is delicious. The braised beef is so tender, it melts in your mouth."

  • "We came from Castle Rock for an afternoon holiday concert. Enjoyed a lovely dinner afterward at The Tavern and all the beauty of "Christmas at the Broadmoor." Our out-of-town guests found it all enchanting! The dinner experience was top-notch. The steaks were prepared as ordered and the fish dishes were very tasty."

  • "My husband and I were staying at the Broadmoor for a late anniversary celebration. We chose this year to have dinner at the Tavern. We have eaten there for lunch and dinner a few times and again we were not disappointed in the food or the service. We will I am sure choose the Tavern again."

  • "We had an enjoyable lunch with out 6 and 7 year olds. It was very reasonably priced for a resort restaurant and the food was excellent. They were very kind and accommodating to our children although there was nothing to keep them entertained. We will definitely be back."

  • "The Jardin at the Tavern has been redone and is lovely. The food and service were excellent. We have been going to the Jardin for forty years and it better than ever. The raw oysters, Crab Louis and French Onion Soup are outstanding. The hotel looks amazing thanks to the new ownership and stewardship."

  • "For a place claiming to be known for steaks, they miss the mark. John's cosmo is wonderful. The oysters Rockefeller were excellent."

  • "For a five star hotel, what a disappointment. Wrong food orders, long wait to be served and a terrible table next to the kitchen door and in the hallway in the Tavern, even though great tables went unfilled in Le Jardin for our entire dinner. If you're not a hotel guest, stay away. You're not treated fairly. $100 per person check and mediocre at best. There are much better restaurants downtown Colorado Springs where you don't have to walk a 1/4 mile from the parking garage and pay $6 to park to get 2 star service."

  • "The food was fantastic, and I loved the live band and dancing! All around a lovely evening."

  • "The Tavern has a warm, English pub atmosphere, and the service was good. It is overpriced because it is in the Broadmoor hotel, and the food was only good and not great. I had a crab cake that was way too salty."
    Dined on 12/21/2013
  • "The menu has been changed to part entree and part a la carte. Since this was a departure from the past format some members of our dinner party ordered off of the a la carte menu ending up with only a piece of meat to eat for dinner. Although the waiter was very polite, he should have suggested some side dishes. We as customers can accept part of the responsibility of the misinterpretation of the the menu, but we bear no responsibility for the quality and taste of the food. The sauce on the fish was greasy, the lyonnaise potatoes unappetizing, and the meat was not up to the high standards that you would expect at a 5 star hotel. The only robust portion of the meal was the bill. I am not sure I will return to this restaurant."

  • "We visited the Broadmoor one evening to enjoy the Christmas decorations and the great ambiance. After a drink at the Hotel Bar, we went to the Tavern for dinner. The food was good. We stuck to the steaks which were excellent. Side dishes--roasted mushrooms, spicy brussel sprouts--also very good. Nice bread basket as well. The decor in the front rooms is a bit dark and, overall, it's nothing special compared to the rest of the hotel. All that said, it was an expensive meal. About on par with what you'd expect from a good steak house--without the luxe decor. If you do eat here, make it worthwhile by strolling around the hotel and soaking up some of the Broadmoor atmosphere."

  • "Went to the Tavern prior to walking the grounds to view the Christmas lights. Good salad, very average entrees. Salmon was quite dry, overcooked. Good table service. Expected much better given their reputation."

  • "The hot food was just lukewarm and cold food was bland. Certainly not what you would expect from the Broadmoor. The redecorated room was wonderful - should apply the same effort to the food."
