Diner Reviews
  • "The wait staff were there when you needed them and exhibited the perfect level of friendless (pleasant but not pretending to be your new friend). Almost all the small plates were delicious, one was just good (the tuna was just a little dry). The bacon wrapped dates were my favorite, but the eggplant slices were also very tasty. It is very near the metro and the chocolate desert was fantastic - with a hint of the bitterness that goes with a real dark chocolate. Only issue was we were there at happy hour so it was noisy."

  • "a couple of my old high school classmates and I reunited for the Cher concert. i picked La Tasca because it's right across the street from the venue. When we arrived, the place was packed should-to-shoulder with patrons. our table wouldn't be ready for 20-30 minutes, so the reception staff surprised us with complimentary champagne because we had wait. we had an excellent server who was very attentive, made excellent recommendations, and was most pleasant! because we were pressed for time, we ordered the Tasca sampler, and we had sangria with our meal. it was the most delicious meal, and we had a marvelous time! I can't wait to come back again and bring another group of friends!"

  • "We attended La Tasca for dinner prior to a show at the Shakespeare Theatre around the corner. Our server was attentive and took our drink order quickly. Food arrived fairly quickly as well and was good but not particularly special. The chickpeas and sautéed spinach with cranberries were tasty, mussels and scallops were good, calamari and deep fried brussel sprouts were, respectively, rubbery and tasteless. The bar had a nice crowd but the restaurant had a bit of odor to it from lots of spilt beer accumulated over time. Given that Jaleo and Rosa Mexicano are both down the street, La Tasca needs a little more zest in its menu and food to keep up."

  • "Brunch is a great deal - $30 for 3 tapas and unlimited sangria (not that you need too much of it, it's very strong! At least for me!) Our server was very attentive and nice, and we had a great time. Food was great as usual!"

  • "With a 6:15 reservation on a Friday night, one expects to wait a few minutes before getting a table. However, even with arriving early for the reservation time, I did not expect to be waiting still at 6:45. The staff were friendly and apologetic for the delay--they even served us sparkling wine for the inconvenience. Once we were seated at 6:55, the food and service were wonderful."

  • "Many months ago when we were turned down because of no reservations, La Tasca welcomed us with open arms! We have been a fan ever since! We have been to three concerts at the Verizon Center and due to La Tasca's location, this has been our, "pre-concert" ritual! Great food! Great people! Great location! We will be back!!"

  • "La Tasca has always been a favorite spot, especially before games. Sangria is great and the Tapas cannot be found anywhere else."

  • "The restaurant has a great selection for tapas. The service was fantastic and the food was great. Their team constantly checks your table to make sure everything is fine."

  • "If you have never had them, then this is a restaurant you need to check out. There is a GREAT variety of tapas and it makes it hard to choose. So, go with a groups of friends and have everyone select a couple of different tapas. then, you all can share and enjoy a wonderful meal. Upstairs is rather noisy, ask for a table downstairs."

  • "Still my favorite. We love the food and the sangria! I will always pick La Tasca first!"

  • "..but that's about all it has going for it. As other reviewers have said, it was very loud. My spouse and I sat next to each other but everyone around us was yelling to be heard by their dining partners. The service was mediocre at best, the server did not offer any recommendations but just took our order. Maybe because it is so hard to hear the patrons? Do not recommend their current sangria (with cherries) but overall the food was delicious."

  • "Me and my friends enjoyed our experience in La Tasca! we will definitely come back soon! Service was great! Everyone was so nice and the food was really good. I am from Spain so was very satisfied with everything that I ordered!"

  • "We needed a place that would accept and have room for a seven-party reservation, and La Tasca came through. We were able to schedule a reservation the morning of, and everyone enjoyed the sangria and tapas. My only complaint was that the food came out in two fairly spaced out groupings, which left some people with everything they ordered and other people without anything to eat. Eventually everything came out as ordered, but the spacing was a little awkward. Otherwise, great meal!"

  • "Perfectly nice atmosphere (a little loud but congenial), nice service, but food was tired, drab, uninteresting...really quite weak, I'm sorry to say."

  • "My friends had a really nice time. Good food, good service. We didnt try the Sangria. So, we have a good reason to come back there."

  • "Our waiter was fantastic. They were out of the wine we wanted - which happens - and he lead us to a great Merlot. The food was excellent and portions great for sharing."
    Dined on 3/18/2014
  • "We had a group of 5. All the food we ordered was delicious. It can get a bit pricey as any Tapas restaurant can when going with hungry men! The Sangria is great here and they have several to choose from. The service was attentive and friendly."

  • "Good place, friendly service staff, but the overall food was ok, not your 100% Tapas quality type rest. But is worth to try it and compare with others."

  • "The food, drinks service excellent at usual. I will definitely recommend it to friends and family. Our waiter was outstanding!"

  • "We were a group of 12 and we ordered the Arte option from the party menu as we did not want to take time to decide what to order. We ordered for 12 and the food was way too much. Could have easily fed 2-4 more people. So if you take this option, see if you can order for a sightly smaller number. The vegetarian options were ok. The fried eggplant was salty and the bread and tomatoes were just ok. The salad was excellent and the patatas bravas were good. The meat options were much better. Loved the empanadas, shrimp and pork tenderloin. Will definitely go again but if we order the Arte menu would definitely try to see if they would sub a couple of the vege options. The service was very good, by the way."

  • "The service was very good and the waiter was very responsive. The empanadas and seafood paella were exceptional. We were seated right away, the waiter made some great recommendations and the bill was less than we expected. Great location when trying to get to events around the Verizon center."

  • "My husband and I met another couple here for dinner, and it was fantastic. Excellent wine list and bar. We ordered off the tapas menu (about two to three dishes per person is reasonable), and everything we received was wonderful. I ordered scallops, octopus, calamari, and the canzuela (a mushroom dish), and the seafood was all perfectly cooked, along with the lamb chops the other couple ordered. On top of the fantastic food, service was quick; we got our food in a little less than twenty minutes."

  • "LaTasca again was fantastic!! The food was excellent along with the service. I would highly recmmend the restaurant to friends! We will return soon."

  • "We went here for a quick pre-theater dinner at 5:45 on a Thursday. The did a great job getting us in and out in 45 minutes but we had to track down our server to get the check even though we had told him specifically of our "need for speed". I'm guessing it would have been even worse had we started later when it was more crowded. The decor is interesting but nothing special, the noise level required our party of four to lean across the narrow table to be heard. Our tapas choices had potential but came out heavy on the fat with lots of visible grease and the bacon-wrapped options were either over-cooked or undercooked. Some real flavor possibilities on the menu but disappointing execution. More like a chain restaurant experience. Too bad."

  • "Food was terrific, but the restaurant was so noisy it was impossible to hold a conversation. I'll go again (often), but maybe when it's less crowded."

  • "La Tasca's food and wine were superb once again! High-energy atmosphere--a great meeting spot near lots of other D.C. activities and sites."

  • "They had a couple of very large groups in the restaurant this night. I suspect that might be why our food came out cold. It took a while to get everything, drinks included, because of how crowded this place was at 5:30pm on a Saturday. But I give our server, Maria, credit. She tried really hard and even tolerated a lady in our group that was obnoxious because of the long waits."

  • "There were 8 of us girls. We were heading to the Justin Timberlake concert! When we first arrived, the hostess had us listed incorrectly in the system as only have drinks in the bar area and not eating. She said not to worry, she would fix it and have us to the concert on time... AND the first rounds of drinks were on the house. Great services! That will keep us coming back. No attitude or pointing fingers, just good business practice. I really appreciated it. Our server was awesome and the food was delicious. We ordered the tapas sampler. I can't wait to return!"

  • "We arrived and were seated, and then after we had gotten acquainted with our server and placed our order, we were asked to move to another table to accomodate a large party. We accepted and moved. Our order came out promptly, but one item was served cold. The item was replaced quickly, and it was perfect. My wife found a piece of eggshell in her food, as well. That was removed from the bill. I just want to say that, while I did not appreciate the entire experience, I wholeheartedly appreciate everything the staff did to make up for all the confusion and mistakes. It is the first time my wife and I did not enjoy the food at La Tasca, but the level of customer service more than made up for it."

  • "Some food arrived before drinks. People that were sat 1/2 hour after us got there food before us. Seems unorganized. Tables are uncomfortable."

  • "We called in ahead of time as well as noted on our reservation that we had a baby in our party, for whom we would need accommodations, like a baby chair. However, no baby chair was supplied, and the young parents had to juggle the baby. We were also seated next to a very large raucous party of ~15 people that disturbed the baby. When we arrived, there was a seat missing, and we had to ask for the seat, which was brought promptly Then our food arrived, but we had to ask for additional servingware, they brought some plates, but no napkins or utensils. After a while, the baby was becoming difficult, so we asked to be moved upstairs and requested again for a high seat. They did both willingly. It was not perfect, but they were quick to remedy."

  • "The food was delicious!!! Went to La Tasca for a birthday celebration with family. We had a wonderful time. We feasted on the Spanish tasting menu and had the sangria blanco. Everything was beautifully presented and seasoned. We will definitely go back."

  • "We're pretty regular to La Tasca. This particular visit was a Friday night where we planned to catch a movie afterward. We had a 6:15 reservation and a 9:45 movie time. Should be PLENTY of time. That said, while our meal was stellar as it tends to be, the service was so far off it was incredible. I went without drink refills for significant parts of the meal, we ordered coffee with dessert that never came, we spend a LONG TIME waiting for our final check (which didnt show up until around 9:15 due to all the slowness - seriously, we had originally planned for downtime between the dinner and movie). Just all in all very disappointing service with great food."

  • "Too much noise. The hostess desk doesn't know who they already seated when other members of a party arrive. Weird. Very erratic layout. Looked like they just shoved an extra table or two to accomodate folks instead of saying they don't have room. We could've gone elsewhere and returned another time to this place. Service was so-so. Portions are small for the prices charged. Lower your prices. Add bread. And the windy staircase in the middle of the restaurant - a no, no. People cannot go up or down with ease. Gridlock for sure. And just overall, keep it cleaner. It has a rustic look - fine but it doesn't have to be run down and unclean. Fix the bathrooms."

  • "Visited the DC area and decided to try this restaurant. Food was expensive, greasy, and over all not very impressive. Can't say I'm an expert in the cuisine, but would not go again."

  • "The food, atmosphere, and sangrias (get a couple pitchers for your table - you won't regret it) are fantastic, but don't expect to see your server more than once or twice. Especially if it's at a high-volume time."
    Dined on 2/21/2014
  • "Don't have too much to say about La Tasca. Everything from the food to the sangria to the ambience met my expectations, but did not exceed them. Anything they serve with chicken is guaranteed to be a good dish."
