We've had tapas in multiple locations in Spain, and this was very authentic. The newbies in the group also raved about the food and service. Next time we're in DC (for next year's conference if not sooner) we will definitely eat at LaTasca again. Can't recommend it highly enough. One note, it seems to be the trendy hotspot near Gallery Place, just off the metro stop. Lots of 20-30 somethings enjoying their time in the bar area. We ate downstairs where we could at least hear each other. But of course, we were not concerned about talking/listening while we ate all that fabulous food. Each dish was interesting, and something we could not cook at home. A personal favorite was the calamari with aoili. We ordered a jug of sangria, which went well with our meal. It is very convenient to that location. Initially, they sat us in the very back with my husband's back to the restaurant and staring at a wall (though they were not crowded). We asked to move and they were immediately accomodating. Santiago was an excellent server, who provided great advice on how/what to order and also impeccable service. The Dátiles con Tocino should not be missed! Patatas Bravas were also wonderful. My husband and I had a great time - the entiree experience was exceptional. However, on an incredibly crowded day during the height of the cherry blossoms tourist week I was seated at a good table out of the way of the myriad of people and with a view of concert goers heading to the Verizon center (excellent people watching). We went for the Cherry Blossom Festival tasting menu and it was great, plenty of wonderful food for a reasonable price ($75 for two people plus drinks). Our server, Santiago, was attentive without being overbearing, and even gave us a slice of cake on the house!
