Diner Reviews
  • " Maybe it was the fact we were there on Easter Sunday, but the food was at best average. The Jamón Ibérico ham was almost inedible. Many slices so hard it was like chewing on leather while the majority contain just fat. Certainly the gambas al ajillo could have used some crusty bread to put the garlicky olive oil to use in lieu of eating the overdone, previously frozen, small shrimp. "

  • "La Tasca is located in Old Town Alexandria. Taking advantage of the warm spring weather, we took a stroll in this vibrant neighborhood full of shops and ethnic restaurants, and ended up at La Tasca. Since this was our first time experience with tapas, we've decided to try the classic tasting menu. The foods came out quickly, hot, looked appetizing, smelled wonderfully, and tasted great. Our server was very knowledgeable and accommodating. Very casual and relaxed bar/restaurant combination atmosphere. Had a great time overall!"

  • "Went to La Tasca with some visiting family, including two young kids (5 & 8). Kids menu was great for them, and the adult menu was truly fantastic. Definitely recommend."

  • "Tapas were excellent to very good. Wednesday wine special made it very affordable. Flamenco music and dancing were enjoyable. One drawback was light level in restaurant. Targeted lighting at tables would greatly enhance the dining experience without distracting from the music and ambiance."

  • "I wanted to take my wife for a nice romantic dinner. We were not disappointed. The portions were generous, the food was delicious and the ambiance was ideal. While we were able to enjoy ourselves, the bar area was very energetic and sociable. We could oversee the whole place from our location and we're able to appreciate that the place is fit for social gathering of friends. The service was first class. Always prompt, cordial and gracious. I recommend this place to anyone."

  • "There are plenty of different food options for many different people. The patatas bravas(sp?) was amazing. All the different sangria a were amazing as well. We will defintly be going back there."

  • "We had a very enjoyable meal; made more pleasurable by our waiter who was excellent! We were celebrating our anniversary with some dear friends and had an excellent evening!"

  • "This is the second time I've been to this restaurant. The tapas were are savory and unique. Everything we ordered was yummy. Our server was excellent and attentive. The drinks were also scrumptious. My friend ordered a drink off of the menu, and was happily indulged. It was extremely noisy this particular evening as the restaurant had a Flamingo dancer. I was very disappointed because we went there for a quite chat (the guitarist and dancer were very good, but annoying for our purpose). Other than the noise on this particular night, it is a fabulous restaurant."

  • "This was our fourth time at La Tasca in Alexandria and we enjoyed it as usual. It's one of our "go to" places to eat. Our waiter was terrific and the food and sangria were very good. We tried several different types of tapas and enjoyed them all."

  • "Carpet upstairs seemed old and dirty. The restaurant lost power a couple of times ending the night earlier."

  • "My wife and I and a couple of friends had a reservation for 7:30. We were about 5 minutes late but our table was still waiting for us. Our server explained that we should each order 3 tapas. We had a great waiter and the food was great. I recommend the bacon wrapped dates and the skewered shrimp with spicy sauce. Overall great experience."

  • "Too many reservations not enough wait staff. Our waiter was wonderful--very attentive when he was around. Way too many reservations and not enough wait staff to go around. The food was extremely slow to be served but was very good. There was live music but it was so loud you couldn't hear yourself think. We would have like to stay for dessert and after dinner drinks but it with the slow service and music pounding in our ears we chose to spend our money elsewhere."

  • "Our group of two couples enjoyed the dynamic scene and abundant variety of their tapas offerings, especially the seafood tapas which was important to us. I liked their Tasca version of sangria; not too sweet as recommended by the server. We were upstairs and it was quite loud; but that was okay for us."

  • "While "La Tasca" is a chain restaurant of sorts, it serves pretty authentic Spanish tapas and a good selection of their interpretation of various sangrias. My wife and I have dined at the Old Town Alexandria, VA location twice and have always enjoyed their food and ambiance. I have also dined at their Cambridge, UK location with identical menu. The service is good and many of the servers are bilingual speakers. A note about their sangrias: they are fairly weak (at least for someone accustomed to real sangria). Their Cadillac Tinto Sangria is the closest to a "real" Spanish red sangria. I have had most of their tapas and are all generally good. Their preparation for "bacalao a la vizcaina" is spotty (cod not soaked long enough)."

  • "Fantastic food-the tapas menu is incredible! Very diverse selection and the restaurant was very likely on the weekend."

  • "We chose La Tasca for a Valentine's Day dinner, having been to both the Old Town and Chinatown locations in the past. This visit lived up to the previous experiences, and then some. Their "dinner for two" special was a wonderful deal, and plenty of food for both of us in three well-paced courses. We were pretty full by the time we finished dessert! Our waiter was knowledgeable and helpful, and perfectly attentive without being intrusive. Everything tasted fresh and delicious, and the included cava toast was the perfect cap to the meal. Will definitely return again."

  • "Everything was great, its a nice place to eat and try a bunch of different types of food. I would recommend going with a group, that everyone shares the food and try everything."

  • "Everything was good except our table location. Place was all most empty and they placed us in the back by server area and bathrooms. It hurt the overall experience for us."

  • "I met my now wife two years ago on this day for our first date. We love the tapas and service. Its always a great plea e to eat."

  • "La Tasca is one of my favorite places to eat (and drink wine), whether it's in Old Town, DC, or Rockville. They have great specials and special events so I feel like I always get my money's worth, and the food and service are always outstanding. Whether you get tapas or paella, you won't be disappointed."
    Dined on 2/9/2014
  • "Food was great, especially the paella with squid ink. Tapas were all tasty and presentation was very nice. Wait staff was knowledgeable and attentive without being intrusive. The standard red wine sangria was good, but too expensive at $28 a pitcher. Also, having a live band at the front door made it really hard to talk to the hostess or give the waiter your order, and almost impossible to talk to your dinner companions. They food was good and we did enjoy our meal."

  • "Great for dates or groups. Not romantic but cozy nonetheless. Excellent service...always appreciate how well they keep up with clearing dishes on the tables. The food at the Alexandria location seems better than the DC location."

  • "La Tasca is a fun eatery. Great bears, friendly staff, and tapas to die for. This was our second time there, and it was considerably less crouded, but in both cases the same great food and thoughtful service."

  • "This was a really good restaurant, it was only my second Spanish restaurant and the whole Tapas concept was new to me. I love that you can make many selections and combine a lot of tapas, and they are not that expensive. Service is great and very helpful. I went there on a Friday night and there was live music. A great dining experience!!!"

  • "We met some friends at La Tasca in Alexandria to take advantage of their lunch special during Restaurant Week. The food was amazing! We loved everything we ordered and are making plans to go back very soon. The service was excellent and we can't say enough good things about the quality and outstanding flavor of the foods we tried. The only thing that would have made the lunch even better is if we were spaced a little further from other dining guests. We were seated along a wall of family style tables, right next to a couple. There were hardly any other patrons in the restaurant, so it would have been nice to have been a little more spaced out. But it didn't impact our experience, and I'm sure we could have moved if we had asked."

  • "They had no problem seating a group of 7 (although I had to call to bump up from 6 to 7--OpenTable won't apparently do groups larger than 6). Prix Fixe Restaurant Week menu was extensive enough to cover all the tapas "food groups" (except chorizos and olives--couldn't get those) and enough to mollify our entire group--we didn't even have to order any extras! Great place to share small plates with others."

  • "I took my girlfriend here and was seated in a great spot upstairs away from the bar, away from too much noise. The food tasted great, the sangria was excellent. I think I would try to hit the happy hour as the prices were pretty steep compared to real tapas in Spain. But still, for a nice date night, it was pleasant."

  • "Went for a girls' night and ordered pitchers of sangria and tapas. Everything was delicious and the service was solid. Bit pricy and loud at times."

  • "Had a wonderful time. Food was outstanding, although I will say the potato chips with dip are unremarkable. But fantastic chicken empanadas, angus beef, also the peppers! The chocolate churros for lunch were to die for! I have been here before but its been a long time so I need to get back again, and soon! Thanks for a wonderful lunch with an old, old friend. It made for a memorable get together."

  • "Kid's menu is pedestrian. Patatas bravas you can do without. Croquettes are too mushy inside, has a raw feel to it. But the shrimp with olive oil and garlic is yum. The australian lamb stew is great. The sauce for the empanadas is yummily garlicky. It's worth a try."

  • "We had a great time at La Tasca. Our waiter was absolutely fabulous!! When we couldn't chew the lamb & pineapple skewers he replaced it with 2 tapas! We went during restaurant week and were a bit skeptical at first about the size of the tapas but the dishes were plenty. They even had a live band!! We had a great date night and I would highly recommend it! Definitely get the scallop & crabmeat dish!"

  • "Great restaurant week deal at a place that can normally be pretty expensive. There are plenty of options available, and the portions are perfect for trying new things. The quality of food and taste is phenomenal, and the sangria is even better. The buey a la plancha is a steak and potato tapa that is AMAZING. My only complaints about the place are the dim lights make it hard to even read the menu, and the music can get super loud if you're near the band, making it hard to carry conversation. So request a table more toward the back! Overall a great place."

  • "The food was great since the 6 of us did the three tapas one dessert Restaurant Week special, we had 17 different ones to taste and 5 different desserts. Certainly got our money's worth, God Bless"
