La Taberna del Alabardero
The Taberna del AlabarderoThe Taberna del Alabardero is a great restaurant. Our server was accommodating and made great suggestions. I always feel I have been somewhere special The paella was cooked al dente and perfect. What more can I say? Words can't describe this wonderful restaurant.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMMy #1 choice for business meetingsFor professional introductions, meetings with colleagues, and group events for my executives, I have chosen La Taberna over and over again. Wine is always good, service excellent, and the food is also great. I'm a vegetarian, so I prefer to choose from the tapas or vegetarian menu than from the regular menu.6/3/2013 12:00:00 AMFinest cuisine, excellent serviceLa Taberna was the finest dining experience we have experienced in our 35 years. We will return in a short time!!!5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMRomantic Special OccassionsWe were struggling on where to celebrate our 19th wedding anniversary, and had a short list of choices, and were late in planning. Made reservations for La Taberna, and added a note that it was our wedding anniversary. Table was strewn with yellow rose pedals, and a simple, but beautiful flower arrangement. Food was divine, as was the wine. The staff was attentive, but not overbearing, and we enjoyed a 3 hour meal. We did not have the tasting menu, largely because there were other specialities we had to try, and all I can say is we will be back. In a city with excellent restaurant choices, this is a hidden gem, where a peaceful, romantic evening can be enjoyed fully.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMReally one of the best restaurantsReally one of the best restaurants in DC! Executive (prix-fix) menu at lunch is a comparative bargain at $26 for 3 courses. Helps keep business lunches on budget.5/22/2013 12:00:00 AMThe Real DealHaving lived in Madrid, I am picky about my Spanish food. Luckily, La Taberna did not disappoint. It's the best of super-traditional, super-formal Spanish dining, with a price tag to match. The wait staff was very attentive and almost completely made up of Spaniards. The tortilla, while not my favorite "gooey in the middle" style a la Juana la Loca or Xirimiri, was the best I've found in the US. The croquetas were also exactly as expected, and my cochinillo entree took me back to Segovia. There is a separate menu for vegetarians, and once you request it the staff will ensure you know exactly what is in every dish served to the table. Fabulous, I can't wait to go back for their happy hour!5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMDefinitely worth the splurgeHaving just graduated, I visited this restaurant with my family to celebrate this special occasion. The food is very authentic - reminds me of the days that I studied abroad in Spain. Definitely get the jamón serrano and queso manchego tapas. The tortilla de batata that I had was a little bit too salty, but nonetheless delicious. For those who like lobsters, I definitely recommend getting the Paella de langostas. You'll get your hands dirty and have trouble looking elegant while getting the lobster meat out, but it's well worth it! Great service, and their tiramisu is also one-of-a-kind!5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstanding as alwaysThe Taberna has been my favorite restaurant for many years. The food is fresh, original, diverse, and delicious. The service is exceptional. The wine are perfect. This is truly a great restaurant.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMA PLEASANT EXPERIENCEDining at Taberna del Alabardero over many years has always been an enjoyable occasion for my wife and myself, and now and then for our guests as well. The food, the ambience, the quiet, superb and attentive service, the excellent wines (esp. sangria, made properly with cut fruit), all combine to make a memorable meal and a worthy outing. I only wish we did not have to drive 70 miles from out home in Shepherdstown, WV to enjoy this great pleasure.
Would you consider renting us a 3-b edroom apartment in the adjacent building, for our old age?

Food is excellent, and service is truly European. No rush, attentive staff, and a knowledgeable head waiter will make your meal experience a virtual trip to Spain.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMAuthentic Spanish foodThe bread and oil are worth the price of admission to this restaurant. The amazing bread and olive oil took me right back to Sevilla when I studied there ten years ago. The food and service were impeccable, but the doing atmosphere is a little stuffy. It is overpriced, but for a fun night out, we enjoyed ourselves. The lobster paella was delicious.5/6/2013 12:00:00 AMBeautiful restaurant and veryBeautiful restaurant and very good food and service.

On the first occassion we sat in outside, which was very pleasant and slightly less formal than the indoor seating (ensure you get a table at a distance from the smoking area). The Tapas and sangria were delicious and the deserts were amazing. Highly recommended.4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMThere is a three-course lunchThere is a three-course lunch option - all three courses were excellent.4/8/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstanding gem of a restaurantExcellent service and outstanding tasty food. Pleasant friendly staff, great food/wine, and ambiance.3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMGive your review a title (optional)We knew the restaurant in Seattle - unfortunately, closed - so we were expecting to have a good experience when we decided to visit the location in DC. We had a great time, I can safely say that our expectations were exceeded.3/9/2013 12:00:00 AMThe Executive Lunch at TabernaThe Executive Lunch at Taberna is a great value.
I rarely rate service "outstanding" but at Taberna last week, that is what they were. I did not like the fish special I ordered and they were quick to make amends for something that wasn't really their problem. I say "they" because several of the staff got involved in making sure I was satisfied.2/13/2013 12:00:00 AMBeautiful restaurant, goodBeautiful restaurant, good wines, good food.
