  • Friendly quiet pre-theater

the menu offerings were fantastic - hard to choose between so many good options - unfortunately our table mostly all chose the same few items so we didn't get a good sampling. But the standout here is the host and attitude. They aim to please, are attentive without hovering, and are very thoughtful (where did we want to sit, how is the lighting, how is the music, folding napkins, trying wine before committing, etc). The staff all wear multiple hats - if the host isn't at the front desk, no problem as the bartender swings under the bar and will welcome you graciously in his stead. Fabulous find for pre-theater.

We really liked La Silhouette. It's very convenient to the theatre district so it's easy to have a very nice meal and make it to a play. The menu is toward traditional French with a few twists. The sautéed foie gras, for example, was served cold. I, personally, would have preferred it warm, but it was a different take and it was good. The mushroom soup was without cream and was richly flavored. The goat cheese cheese cake was also very good. Highly recommended.

Both the scallops and the lamb were excellent--well flavored and presented nicely. Portions were modest but we think that's a good thing. Good to gave a restaurant where you can take part in a conversation without shouting.

  • I was quite underwhelmed at

I was quite underwhelmed at a lot of things. The menu that was presented to us was not the menu I had researched online and the prices were considerably higher, but it was a special occasion, oh well. After sending back a signature cocktail which seemed more like a virgin strawberry daquiri, they quickly remedied with another drink. The food was sub-par. A $35 scallop dish contained 3 scallops and a few pieces of zucchini which merely took up 1/8th of the plate, the rest was some drizzle sauce. My friend had a $39 lobster entree which barely contained enough food for half an appetizer. The best thing about this experience was my martini and the fact they wrote "Happy Birthday" on the dessert plate for my friend and included a candle.

My lamb chop was delicious. The appetizer of grits and egg was exquisite! and dessert wonderful. We had asked about a pre-fixe dinner for $38 and the chef honored it as it was not on the menu. The staff could not have been more gracious. Will definitely return.

I came here during Restaurant Week for lunch with my friend and ordered the bone marrow, pork tenderloin, and cheesecake. My friend ordered the baby octopus salad, the skate, and the lemon lavender tart. Only one of the two bones on my bone marrow plate had bone marrow in it and it was much too fatty and the nuts on top were overtoasted. The pork tenderloin was really juicy and tender - this was probably the best part. The cheesecake was abnormal (it was made out of goat cheese), and it was good but it got overpowering after a while. My friend's baby octopus salad was much too sour and there were yellow arugula leaves in it. The skate had an uncomfortable aftertaste to it that went up the nose. the tart was fine, nothing special.

I liked this restaurant a lot which I tried for the first time during Restaurant Week earlier this week. Taste, service and ambiance were all good and the cost $38 was a bargain for a three course meal. Looking at the regular menu, all of entrees cost over $30 which I thought was a bit expensive. If there are $25 ~ 30 for entrees, I would definitely come back during non-Restaurant-Week as well.

Went here for Restaurant Week dinner. I had the bone marrow appetizer (very good), the skate entree (excellent but portion could have been bigger), and the cheesecake (excellent). Service was excellent, the servers very polite and the owners very friendly and welcoming. The inside was more intimate and relaxing than its facade.

We were there for dinner after a show during food week. The staff was exceptional. We had everything we wanted and welcomed warmly. I would like to try more of the menu. Dessert was fabulous. I was not thrilled with either of our appetizers but perhaps they were just not to my taste. My pork belly was very good but my husband's chicken was great. This is a great place to take friends or family because the staff is so wonderful.

My friend and i had dinner and we were there to try their Restaurant Week menu, but we ended up with their regular menu as we found our favorite, Duck, in their menu! We ordered SLOW-POACHED HEIRLOOM EGG and ESCARGOT ‘VOL-AU-VENT’ for appetizers and both of us ordered LONG ISLAND DUCK BREAST for our main. All dishes were well prepared and decorated and they taste great!! Especially, Duck was not greasy, but matched well with black rice and cherry sauce. a quiet small restaurant with good spacing and low noise levels. diners can actually converse, the room, a simple but beautiful design suits the space admirably. the wait staff professional friendly not familiar. the food. always good, very good, at times brilliant. this is a must restaurant for show and dine, but even better for a relaxing evening standing on its own. three visits so far, never a flop , a few memorable courses. the simply prepared , rarely offered bone marrow, is a destination treat. the lamb as good as any in the city, especially 'trio' provencal - superb sausage. the pork belly was also simply prepared with mushrooms and i really didn't want to share. the duck confit croquette , an elegant take on comfort food. We were here in the dead heat of July and the airconditioning wasn't working. Apart from that- our experience was very pleasant. The wait staff was attentive and accommodating. The food was excellent. We had the chef's 5 course tasting. The portions were perfect (even small to the eye), but there was more than enough food to fill an empty stomach! The food was rich and excellently presented. Overall we were pleased with our experience and look forward to returning the next time we are in NYC.

I wanted to take my cousins vacationing from Ireland to dinner in Manhattan (hot July). When we walked into the bar area, we expected cool air conditioning. But, it was hot. So, I asked the hostess if the restaurant had air conditioning. She said it did. But, when she brought us to our table, the restaurant was hot. We were going to leave, but the hostess said she'd turn up the air conditioning. If anything was done to the air conditioning, we didn't feel it. My clothes were wet with sweat by the time we finished dinner. As for the food, it was just okay. But, we received very little for $$$$$. The coffee was cold and we sent it back. $12 for a glass of wine that wasn't even filled half way. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.

There where issues with electricity when we were there. We sat down at the bar as they dealt with the issue. A little later, we were offered a drink from a lady I assumed was the owner of the restaurant to which we first said we didn't want a drink. Later, when we saw a drink that was enticing, we chose to have one. Although we each ordered one and were each offered one earlier, we ended up paying for one of the drinks. It made my wife and me feel that 1/2 of our patience was appreciated. (I'm still not sure if it was my wife's patience or mine). As for the dinner and the service, it was very good. We were lucky to be offered a seat outside at the back where the noise was much more manageable. I'd certainly recommend this restaurant.

Service was the best part of the night. The waiters were very attentive and did everything they can to make us comfortable when the power went out in a part of the dining room. The food was good but not spectacular. The fillet mignon we ordered was undercooked on one end and overcooked on the other. The original dining room room we were in was quiet and romantic but because of the power outage we moved to the main dining room which was very noisey and lacked the romantic feel.

We t before an 8 pm show. Had the tasting menu with wine pairing. Foie gras was melt in your mouth good; Seared scallops on saffron/citrus risotto followed--and we're declared the best restaurant scallops we had ever had. Even my pickier seafood eaters ate every morsel. The white burgundy dd a nice job of framing the flavors. The main attraction were slices of beef tenderloin with a foie gras, summer truffle, and wild mushroom matrix. WOW! A little bit of each, taken together, created a wonderful earthy medly in every bite that ranks among the best things I've eaten in awhile. A great meal that ended just in time for the show.
