A word from La Sen Bistro
La Sen Bistro is an offshoot of Berkeley's La Rose Bistro. After many years of serving to loyal customers of theater go-ers and the nearby UC Berkeley patrons, La Rose Bistro transplanted itself to downtown Concord to become La Sen Bistro.

With the same vision of serving great food, you will enjoy the classic California-French samples of duck confit, salmon in saffron sauce, lamb racks, and escargot - just to name a few. Our great food was recognized by the Michelin Guide in 2007, 2010, 2011, 2012 as well as the Zagat survey. Come join us at La Sen Bistro for a glass of wine and a taste of California-French cuisine.

Cheers to good food and great companies. Bon Appetit!

This was our first visit to this restaurant. Soup du jour (it was kind of tomato soup) and soup a l'onion were fantastic. I had cotelette de porc and my wife had boeuf bourguignon. Both dishes were delicious. We rarely eat deserts, but this time we took creme brulee: we are sure we will come back again soon! All in all, it is a local gem. Service is rather slow (which I like when I'm not in rush): dinner took about 1h45min.

The food was excellent. It started out with the bread and dip, the bread alone was already good and the dip just made it better. Our main courses were fantastic, we had the rib eye steak, lamb sirloin and lamb chops. All of which were cooked really well. We had te creme brulee for dessert and that was fantastic too, not too sweet and balanced vanilla flavor. It takes a while for your food to be served but the bread will make the wait easier.

I had a hard time choosing what to order for dinner...I went with the salad nicoise and the scallops while my wife had a caesar and duck breast. The salad I ordered had a chunk of grilled ahi, perfectly roasted potatoes, olives, an egg, and green beans...It was the best salad I have had in years. My scallops were perfectly prepared with a snap peas and mashed parsnips that had a sweet finish and complemented the savory sauce very well. I had a few bites of my wife's duck and it was perfectly prepared and delicious. The wine we ordered was the house white and it complemented the dinner very well. We had desert and coffee and our bill was less than $100!

We arrived at 5:45PM and had our choice of tables. As we ate it started to fill up and the noise level grew a little. It was not too loud, but it is a small restaurant so some noise is un-avoidable. The food was very good, we had Crab Cakes and Scallops and the French Onion soup, all were very good. We both had a glass of wine; I think $9.00 for a glass of wine is a little pricey. The service was a little slow, I had to keep requesting water refills. Overall a nice experience. We will return.

My husband and I had a date night at La Sen Bistro and we both loved every bite. They were not those awful huge portions that force you to take food home. It was simply delightful from stater to dessert. We plan to take our children as a special treat and we know they too will love it.

Well, why would you take Open Table reservation for 8:30pm if you want to close the place at 9:00pm? It was week day and we been the only customers for a later dinner. We have received phone call 8:33pm with a question - are we coming or not? My first idea was place is so busy someone would like to take over our table... I was wrong. It was dead empty and from the first minute we entered restaurant we felt like undesired guest for tonight. Bartender left in 10 minutes after placing our order. We got no deserts as we been told chef has also left. Very bad experience...

This is our second visit to La Sen; our first was two weeks ago. The food is extremely good, but the service was extremely slow. We attributed this to the fact that there was only one server for the entire restaurant. We liked the food so much we invited another couple two weeks later. Again, the food was outstanding, but the service was even worse, despite the fact that there were three servers. We arrived at 6:30 and left at 9:14. It would have been later because we had not received our coffee and told the server we couldn't wait for the coffee and just bring us the check. As good as the food is, the poor, disorganized service made the dining experience uncomfortable and I don't think we will be returning anytime soon.

Had reservations for two for 6 pm. for Sat. night, before restaurant was full. Asked for a table away from the door, but was denied, as it was set for a party of three. That table never filled the entire hour and one-half we were there, but that is my only quibble. This was our first time to La Sen and we were there to enjoy a romantic night out. The calamari appetizer was cooked perfectly and the complimentary bread with dipping sauce was delicious. The crab with salad was so-so. But the duck with honey-peppercorn sauce was heavenly. Best duck I have ever tasted, and I can be a tough critic. We will be back! Nice to find something special like this in the east bay!

La Sen was okay, having just come back from France it was hard to not compare the food to what we experienced in France. The food marginal. Ceasar salad was disappointing. Entrees Beef and Lamb were okay but very small portions. I would definitely bring my own wine if I came back as wine by the glass charges were high and wine pours were very small. Desserts were also okay but nothing spectacular. Would I go back ....perhaps but this would not be in my top 3 restaurant choices. Service at the restaurant was also just okay. Our waiter never told us about specials including a lobster bisque that we would have ordered had we known about it. Overall...we were disappointed as restaurant and food did not meet our expectations.

Front windows dirty when sun hits them. Try to make view in more inviting and tidy. Service mixed. Additional bread was requested and it took 1/2 hour to get it because it was being baked and when it was finally brought out, it was taken to the wrong table and returned to the kitchen... More personalized attention is needed. Excellent food and we will return.

Being that it was a Sat, night and the restaurant was full, everything was fairly good...a request for more bread never materialized, and after we had finished eating and our plates celared, our original server came over to inquire if we had gotten our entrees yet, so service wasn't the greatest. The food was excellent however and despite stingy wine pours, I'd go again.

Service was awful. Our waiter was a rare site and our food took over an hour. I had the worst onion soup I've ever had made with tasteless bland chicken broth . My friend ordered beef bourginon and she got a very plain stew, no hint of wine whatsoever in the scarce bit of watery gravy that came with it. My husbands lasagna was dried out. Overall, a terrible dining experience

La Sen is a reminder of what dining out used to be like. It is quiet, comforting and best of all a simple pleasure. It is easy to find, easy to park, and very easy to enjoy. The menu is not extensive and they serve beer and wine only. I did miss having an aperitif but that was quickly eclipsed by the excellently paced and unobtrusive service. We never felt rushed yet orders were taken and food arrived at just the right time. My salmon in saffron sauce was very good although the black olives somehow didn't taste right in the dish. My companion had the pork chop which was simply delicious. The French onion soup and creme brûlée are simply amazing. We will definitely be going back.

We had dined at La Sen several times previously and were looking forward to our return visit. Unfortunately it was not a repeat. Canned black olives appeared in the Nicoise salad which had an uninspiring piece of grilled tuna on top of less than crisp mixed greens. The Salmon entre served over a bed of olives, artichoke hearts and spinach once again featured the same canned olives, artichokes that were marinated in oil and vinegar out of a jar and about 6 leaves of spinach. This was all very surprising as ingredients had been well sourced on our previous visits Hope it was an anomaly.

This is our third time to La Sen. It's always been amazingly good. We all had the escargot and it was the best - lots of garlic and plenty of sauce for dipping. Three of us had salads - delicious, fresh, and lightly dressed (which I appreciate). The prices are reasonable for a high quality French restaurant.

This is a wonderful, intimate, low-key restaurant for a special occasion - and even a regular one! The service and ambience were inviting and pleasing - I felt I was in a Parisian bistro. There was a good variety of kinds of meals. French Onion Soup was exquisite. Our server was knowledgable, professional, and a pleasure to deal with. The house wine was outstanding. All in all, it was a wonderful place to take my 91-year-old francophone aunt!

It is very rare to find a place with both awesome food and service. Often, I get one without the other. La Sen was different though and I highly recommend to anyone who enjoys great French cuisine in the Concord area. I got the crab cake salad with the lamb chops. Portions were perfect and the flavors were intense. And I cannot stress enough how the service was impeccable.

We went to La Sen Bistro for my father's birthday on a Sunday around 5:30. Upon arrival there were a few other tables taken but the restaurant was mostly empty. The waiter came to the table fairly after we and took the drinks/appetizer/entree orders from our group. The beef bourguignon was unavailable (at the beginning of dinner shift), which was quite disappointing. We waited an hour from when we sat down to when the entree was delivered. We were not provided any explanation as to why we had to wait for our food and had to ask one of the staff when we could expect our food. The entrees were good but not great. In summary the food was pretty good but the service was terrible and that ruined our meal.
