A word from La Sen Bistro
La Sen Bistro is an offshoot of Berkeley's La Rose Bistro. After many years of serving to loyal customers of theater go-ers and the nearby UC Berkeley patrons, La Rose Bistro transplanted itself to downtown Concord to become La Sen Bistro.

With the same vision of serving great food, you will enjoy the classic California-French samples of duck confit, salmon in saffron sauce, lamb racks, and escargot - just to name a few. Our great food was recognized by the Michelin Guide in 2007, 2010, 2011, 2012 as well as the Zagat survey. Come join us at La Sen Bistro for a glass of wine and a taste of California-French cuisine.

Cheers to good food and great companies. Bon Appetit!

Had reservations for two for 6 pm. for Sat. night, before restaurant was full. Asked for a table away from the door, but was denied, as it was set for a party of three. That table never filled the entire hour and one-half we were there, but that is my only quibble. This was our first time to La Sen and we were there to enjoy a romantic night out. The calamari appetizer was cooked perfectly and the complimentary bread with dipping sauce was delicious. The crab with salad was so-so. But the duck with honey-peppercorn sauce was heavenly. Best duck I have ever tasted, and I can be a tough critic. We will be back! Nice to find something special like this in the east bay!

La Sen was okay, having just come back from France it was hard to not compare the food to what we experienced in France. The food marginal. Ceasar salad was disappointing. Entrees Beef and Lamb were okay but very small portions. I would definitely bring my own wine if I came back as wine by the glass charges were high and wine pours were very small. Desserts were also okay but nothing spectacular. Would I go back ....perhaps but this would not be in my top 3 restaurant choices. Service at the restaurant was also just okay. Our waiter never told us about specials including a lobster bisque that we would have ordered had we known about it. Overall...we were disappointed as restaurant and food did not meet our expectations.

Food has always been great tasting and presented beautifully. Service was poor on our most recent visit. Seemed understaffed for the number of patrons. However, it is still one of my favorite places to eat. The duck breast is a must try.

Front windows dirty when sun hits them. Try to make view in more inviting and tidy. Service mixed. Additional bread was requested and it took 1/2 hour to get it because it was being baked and when it was finally brought out, it was taken to the wrong table and returned to the kitchen... More personalized attention is needed. Excellent food and we will return.

Being that it was a Sat, night and the restaurant was full, everything was fairly good...a request for more bread never materialized, and after we had finished eating and our plates celared, our original server came over to inquire if we had gotten our entrees yet, so service wasn't the greatest. The food was excellent however and despite stingy wine pours, I'd go again.

His was our second visit and it was just as good as we remembered. Staff is very helpful and knowledgeable but a little slow. It took a little too long between courses. Food was great and worth the wait. I had scallops and they were wonderful. My friend had salmon, also excellent. We shared a dessert that was like mini berry pies. They were awesome!

Service was awful. Our waiter was a rare site and our food took over an hour. I had the worst onion soup I've ever had made with tasteless bland chicken broth . My friend ordered beef bourginon and she got a very plain stew, no hint of wine whatsoever in the scarce bit of watery gravy that came with it. My husbands lasagna was dried out. Overall, a terrible dining experience

La Sen is a reminder of what dining out used to be like. It is quiet, comforting and best of all a simple pleasure. It is easy to find, easy to park, and very easy to enjoy. The menu is not extensive and they serve beer and wine only. I did miss having an aperitif but that was quickly eclipsed by the excellently paced and unobtrusive service. We never felt rushed yet orders were taken and food arrived at just the right time. My salmon in saffron sauce was very good although the black olives somehow didn't taste right in the dish. My companion had the pork chop which was simply delicious. The French onion soup and creme brûlée are simply amazing. We will definitely be going back.

We had dined at La Sen several times previously and were looking forward to our return visit. Unfortunately it was not a repeat. Canned black olives appeared in the Nicoise salad which had an uninspiring piece of grilled tuna on top of less than crisp mixed greens. The Salmon entre served over a bed of olives, artichoke hearts and spinach once again featured the same canned olives, artichokes that were marinated in oil and vinegar out of a jar and about 6 leaves of spinach. This was all very surprising as ingredients had been well sourced on our previous visits Hope it was an anomaly.

This is our third time to La Sen. It's always been amazingly good. We all had the escargot and it was the best - lots of garlic and plenty of sauce for dipping. Three of us had salads - delicious, fresh, and lightly dressed (which I appreciate). The prices are reasonable for a high quality French restaurant.

This is a wonderful, intimate, low-key restaurant for a special occasion - and even a regular one! The service and ambience were inviting and pleasing - I felt I was in a Parisian bistro. There was a good variety of kinds of meals. French Onion Soup was exquisite. Our server was knowledgable, professional, and a pleasure to deal with. The house wine was outstanding. All in all, it was a wonderful place to take my 91-year-old francophone aunt!

It is very rare to find a place with both awesome food and service. Often, I get one without the other. La Sen was different though and I highly recommend to anyone who enjoys great French cuisine in the Concord area. I got the crab cake salad with the lamb chops. Portions were perfect and the flavors were intense. And I cannot stress enough how the service was impeccable.

We went to La Sen Bistro for my father's birthday on a Sunday around 5:30. Upon arrival there were a few other tables taken but the restaurant was mostly empty. The waiter came to the table fairly after we and took the drinks/appetizer/entree orders from our group. The beef bourguignon was unavailable (at the beginning of dinner shift), which was quite disappointing. We waited an hour from when we sat down to when the entree was delivered. We were not provided any explanation as to why we had to wait for our food and had to ask one of the staff when we could expect our food. The entrees were good but not great. In summary the food was pretty good but the service was terrible and that ruined our meal.

I come here often for no reason, but it is equally perfect to celebrate a special occasion. I took my sister here for lunch for her birthday, and it was a hit! Everything is always made from the freshest ingredients and presented as elegantly as any top-rated restaurant in the city. We each had one of the salads regularly on the menu, and the salmon with saffron and the vegetarian lasagne entrees. My sister chose the Strawberry Napoleon for her birthday dessert, and it was impressive. You absolutely cannot go wrong with anything on the menu.

I had to give this one a less than stellar review. If you are going to go...go for the food! It is fabulous, and the service can be too...but they are very understaffed. I had a business luncheon table for 10, and than goodness only 8 showed-up because with my table and the other tables in the restaurant...there was only 1 server. YES, he was good, but there was no way he could manage all these tables (as well as the walk in's) alone. Later on, one other server came to help, but it was too late to make a good impression. However, the food was excellent, so again...if you go, go for the food! I will be back for dinner, and a smaller group for lunch because it really is that good!

We came here for a ladies' night out, and everything was wonderful. We split the appetizer special which involved a duck pate and shredded duck meat. It was absolutely incredible. We then split/shared salads - a salad with crab cakes and a salad with a mix of lettuce, sliced pear, and pine nuts, followed by the lamb sirloin special, scallops, and the lamb chops entrees. Everything was beautifully presented and expertly cooked. They just had the one waiter this evening, but he did an excellent job taking good care of everyone with what appeared to me to be equal time and care. I cannot say enough good things about this restaurant! It truly provides an outstanding dining experience.

We were visiting a friend in Concord and she recommended this nice restaurant. The food was very nice, the onion soup tasted great, not salty as at other places, I finished every last drop. The crab cakes were simply scrumptious! The ribeye could use a better quality. Service needed improvement. The bottle of wine was just poured into glasses, we did not get to taste it first. And the waiter must practice gender equality, the ladies were served last! Yup, exactly the same dishes, but the lady got hers after the men. We were not used to that at all! But we will return. The atmosphere and the food were good enough for us to ignore the service faux pas.

We stopped going to La Sen because the service was sooooooo bad - one time the server didn't even notice I didn't get my food until 25 minutes after all others at the table got theirs - multiple attempts to get her attention failed. BUT - we tried again and were very impressed - the food has always been excellent and this time, well, the service matched the food. Highly recommend!

What one would hope to find when walking through a Parisian neighborhood...someplace with a nice menu, good service and great food with good ambiance and reasonable prices. Admittedly, we were most interested in the food part... - french onion soup (great), - calamari (with a nice aioli on the side), - escargot (a little disappointing), - coq au vin (very good), - duck confit (duck was tasty; accompanying ratatouille was ok), - steak and pomme frites (both very good). - desserts - nice presentations très bon...highly recommended.

I ate here for dinner once and had such a lovely experience that I wanted to come back. So I brought two friends back for lunch. The service was horrendous. A lackadaisical waitress who screwed up too many things and not once was pro-active about anything. Yet, she was not rushed off her feet at all. Several items on the menu weren't available.... naturally all the items we first tried to order. I had to ask for bread, more water repeatedly, ketchup, a correction on the bill, refusal of coffee in a dirty cup, etc. It's a shame, because the food is good. I ordered the same dessert as before and it was melt-in-your-mouth delicious. If their service could improve and match the level of food, then I would recommend it.
