Diner Reviews
  • "La Scala has high standards, and they are apparent in their meal ingredients and preparation. They take the time to prepare everything from scratch and the results are worth the wait. The marinera sauce we enjoyed was obviously made from fresh tomatoes, and the pastas are mostly made in-house. We will be back!"

  • "We shared; a great wine; shrimp toast; fried Caesar salad; a double veal chop that was butterflied in a brown mushroom sauce. Great eating experience."

  • "I have eaten at La Scala several times and every time I receive an excellent meal, served by an excellent wait staff. While the menu items are wonderful, the specials of the day are just that - special. They are fresh, prepared in innovative ways. La Scala is my go to restaurant when I have visitors come to town."

  • "Great friendly service. The food was delicious. Potions were large."

  • "I could not understand my waiter. He spoke with a heavy accent. Way too fast. And didn't seem to care about us. I loved my pasta but my daughters shrimp in the scampi dish tasted like iodine. They weren't right"

  • "I wanted try something different for my wife's birthday so I did some research and decided on La Scala in Baltimore's Little Italy. I requested a quiet spot for our group of seven. They sat us upstairs because a large group had booked the bocci ball area and they thought it might get a loud. It was quiet, the food was great, and the service was superb. We enjoyed the grilled Caesar Salad. I had a veal special that was seasoned just right. Several people in our group had Al's Way NY Strip with jumbo lump crab and are still raving about how good it was. We were all stuffed and didn't want desert but when they found out we were celebrating a birthday our waiter did something special for my wife. We were all happy and had a great time."

  • "La Scala is about as close to real Italian food as I have gotten in the US. Right down to the great selection of Italian wines, and Limoncello at the end. And they have some good Grappas. They also have dishes that we have come to know here in the states that I never saw much of in Italy. (Chicken Parmigiana, etc). The Osso Bucco was excellent. The Spaghetti Carbonara would have been excellent but I save that for the real version in Florence. But is was very good. Great pineapple gelato. Service is very good and attentive. They have many many specials that area almost too much to keep track of. (not a bad thing). Second time I was to the restaurant, once with a large group and once just the two of us. Everyone in both parties loved it."

  • "This has become my favorite Italian restaurant in Baltimore, no easy task!. Close your eyes and believe you're dining in Tuscany. Top notch"

  • "First rate food. Homemade pasta, gnocchi that were so light you had to hold them down to eat them. Roasted fish. Good service without being hovered over. Just delicious. And a shuttle to/from our harbor hotel. This was a great meal."

  • "We had a fantastic meal at La Scala. The grilled Caesar salad was incredible (a special) and everything we ordered was delicious. The portions were very large and everyone had a fantastic meal."

  • "La scala never ceases to impress in the quality of food and service. I have been here several times and never had a bad meal or experience. If it gets crowded or there are lots of large groups it can get a little on the noisy side and waiter attentiveness can slow down, but this is not the type of place to go if you want to rush your meal anyway! The grilled Caesar salad is always popular, and I am a huge fan of their veal dishes. The last time around my group wanted to surprise someone for their birthday and his meal was concluded with a candle lit tiramisu, on the house. All in all a classy establishment with quality food and service. Highly recommend!"

  • "My brother recommended this restaurant, and I was so glad he did. The staff was friendly and entertaining, the ambiance was the right mix of elegant and comfortable, and the food was amazing. I ordered the spaghetti alla carbonara, and it was, hands down, the best I've ever had. I hope I'll get to try it again when I travel to Baltimore!"

  • "The service was OK, just that the waiter was too old to serve. He barely talked to us and seemed like he was in a quite rush. I had a few questions about the menu and he had no patient to answer them."

  • "It took well over 45 minutes to get 1 house salad and 2 appetizers. Dinner was nothing special, either. I have more flavor with the food I cook at home. The best part of the meal was the side dish of pasta that came with the entree. I couldn't even hear my wife ask me a question because the back room they stuck us into was so loud. So much for treating her to a special birthday dinner. The restaurant DID make an impression, tho. I will never, ever again set foot into La Scala, nor will I recommend it to my vast network of professional contacts. A lot of money just flushed down the toilet. A bocce ball court does not make up for bland food and shoddy service. This place gets an "F" !!!!!!!!!!"

  • "Had an amazing time. Clearly every dish was freshly made, expecially the pasta. Was concerned when the menu said "4 shrimp" on the scampi.... NOPE- The shrimp were HUGE! Waiter was energetic and had an amazing time with us. We played bocci ball on their inside court while having a few glasses of wine, the manager came over and played with us for awhile! Was a blast. Couldn't have started our long night out better. Will be eating there again."

  • "We had a wonderful experience at La Scala. We were greeted like family and as soon as we sat down we spoke with the chef, Nino, that came to greet us. After a lovely conversation we asked him to choose our meal and he did an amazing job!! What a treat. Everything was beyond expectations. We were treated like we were long lost family being invited home. There was no rush and every course was presented fabulously. The service was beyond compare. I will be returning often. Even as we left we were offered a courtesy shuttle to our car that was parked several blocks away. What a delight! Not to be missed!!! Thank you Nino and staff for making our evening SO special!!"

  • "The GM, Chesley, makes coming to this restaurant a memorable event. Every time we have been here, we feel as if we are the only customers in the place. The servers know the menu inside and out and are very professional. The homemade pasta is delicious, as well as the veal dishes. I have never had anything here that I did not like. Its also refreshing to see Nino, the Chef, come to the table to see if you enjoyed your food. And, if that's not enough, they have imported Olive Oil that you can take home to remember the evening. On the way out, be sure and have a nightcap and indulge in a game of indoor Bocci Ball!"

  • "Still our favorite Italian restaurant. It's great to see Nino stillgoing from table to table greeting his guests. The staf is always top notch. The veal was, as usual, tender and delicious. Still the best grilled caesar, probably because it was one of the first. Highly recommended!"

  • "LaScala was excellent!!!!! The atmosphere was so romantic. We were greeted and seated immediately. The staff was awesome! The food was the BEST Italian i have ever had. It was obvious that this restaurant is the real deal. The pasta was hand made, the wine list was amazing, the food options were endless........ This was my first time at LaScala, but it will not be my last."

  • "I was in town for a conference and was celebrating a birthday with my boyfriend. I told them ahead of time that it was his birthday and they presented him with a card which was sweet but didn't sing to him later on. The shuttle to and from our hotel was super helpful."

  • "The best Italian cuisine not only in Little Italy but all of Baltimore & DC area. Nino always seems to have great Appetizers, Salads, entrees on all of his menus. Try the poached then grilled Octopus salad "Wow" And the Gnocchi is out of this world awesome."

  • "La Scala is not an elegant 5 star restaurant or a place to eat the latest trendy cuisine. La Scala is the type of place that is uncommon in most areas: great Italian food that is not overblown, attentive and friendly wait staff, reasonable prices, and good ambiance for either business or date nights. Unlike other place where I have dined, when there were last minute changes the reservations, they didn't make a fuss over the inconvenience. I have eaten at La Scala several times, and I have never been disappointed."

  • "A wonderful family reunion made festive by thy staff, chef/owner, Niño, and the delicious food. Our family from Boston and Portland, Oregon loved it as did we. The grilled octopus, grilled Caesar salad, Bronzino and veal chop were all hits."

  • "Loved the food...was just like being back in Italy."
    Dined on 3/8/2014
  • "other than cordial, attentive and effocient service there is. nothing good to say my penne was dry and the tomato sauce bland, what little there was. bruschetta tomatoes were tasteless and there was little if any olio. acnd my chicken with sun dried tomatoes had few tomatoes, to much too watery sauce and chicken pounded so thin that it barely tasted like chicken. it pains me to give la scala a bad review. because it used to be great. unfortunately it now fits in to a little italy which is not what it used to be"

  • "The food was great! The octopus appetizer came out a little cold, but the grilled caesar salad made up for it! Great wine selection and the service was outstanding."

  • "I'm was pleasantly surprised by La Scala. No wonder it's on the top ten list for Baltimore. This lovely restaurant will NOT disappoint you. The food and the service are superb. Thank you for a lovely evening La Scala."

  • "Food was delicious. Had enough for lunch next day. Was lucky enough to be dining with an Italian friend who encourage me to try things I wouldn't have tried such as the roasted romaine and gargonzola bread which were both to die for. My entree was delicious as well. We were so full we had to skip dessert."

  • "Business dinner with 18 people and we all had a good time. Overall food was good with the exception being the shrimp appetizer which was amazing. Service was very good with a glass never going empty. And we all had a blast playing bocce after dinner. Would definitely go back."

  • "Food was excellent as was the service. Veal Marsala was tasty and the pasta also very good , Octopus salad was very good. The intimate atmosphere is appealing."

  • "Had the special and the for $40 the lobster tail was nasty, never ate a place and the lobster wasn't good. The service was great, but I went for the food and although my appetizer was good, I was disappointed with my entree. Sorry but that was my first and last time."

  • "We went to La Scala for a pre-theatre dinner. It was recommended by a friend. The grilled Caesar salad was great, as was everything we tried. Great service and food. We will be back when we are in Baltimore."

  • "The first time I went the food was excellent and plentiful and the service was good. The second time, the calamari was fishy, the sauce oily, one of our party got uncooked chicken, parmesan cheese was scrimped on, the servings were smaller, and not all hot from the oven either. The meat and cheese plate was anemic. And the deserts were almost foul. It was plain to the restaurant that we were celebrating a special occasion, and no notice was made of that fact except for the hostess mentioning it as we came in. The only thing that went right was that we asked for a quiet table where we could talk and we got it."
