Diner Reviews
  • "La Scala has a vibrant and inviting atmosphere, and a bocci court on the ground level! Soft lighting, wood trim and spacious dining areas combine to create a sensuous architectural blend of the old and new worlds. Large capers and a delicate sauce made my veal piccata mouthwatering even if the veal was slightly more well then I prefer. My wife and I devoured fresh mortadella, robust prosciutto, and asiago and fontina cheeses from the Salumeria menu. We both enjoyed pasta with our entrees that was perfectly al dente and irresistable! Italian wines dominated the list with a wonderfully eclectic variety of grapes, regions and prices that should enable any diner to enjoy a great wine within their budget."

  • "Our third visit, and each time a wonderful meal with great service. Both the chef and the manager visited our table to make sure we were enjoying ourselves."

  • "Lascala was recommended to is by a friend, along with other restaurants. We ended up making last minute reservations for a group of 9 and it ended up being the best meal of the week! Room was private, appetizers were amazing, and the dinner choices were unbelievable!"

  • "We went to celebrate my life / battle against Breast Cancer. Reservations Sat @ 6:45, valet parking, seated in minutes. I had Red Sangria, grilled Caesar salad (awesome), Gorgonzola (loved it), Fettuccine Verdi Alla Bolognese (Awesome), specialty coffee (yummy) and strawberry crepe w/ chocolate (good). The night was magical. Warm, inviting, a buzz to it, the ambience etc. The staff will explain everything and the owner came to our table and again to us at the bar. We were checked on but it was not invasive, the owner talked with us and shook our hands. We even ran into old friends we haven't seen in forever. They moved into Little Italy and come to La Scala regularly. It was a wonderful night."

  • "Went for my anniversary, got a nice card at the table. Great service and food, and a free dessert and after dinner drink special for our anniversary. I wish I lived closer, but was a great evening!"

  • "Food was delicious and waiter was more than accommodating, with an amazing list of specials. I do not like when specials are told by the waiter and he fails to tell the price of the dish."

  • "We visit LaScalla whenever we are in Baltimore and as always the food was great. We took my sister and her husband there for the first time and they were very happy with the food. We had the grilled caesar salad which is a favorite of mine. My husband had the veal chop and as always was very good. Can't leave there without the cannolli - the shells are so light and the filling is great! My sister and my husband had the pineapple sorbet and said it was really good. Service is always good and very attentive. I never feel rushed when I am there even if the restaurant is crowded. I always appeciate it when the owner ot manager comes over to speak to you personally - which they did."

  • " Mostly everything was outstanding: the ambience, the service and the food. The martini was very good; however, it could have been better if it was ICED cold. The house- made gnocchi and bruschetta were the best I have ever had. The center cut veal chop ragu with fresh mushrooms was delicious. Dessert was a fresh Pesche Amareti and shared cannoli. Both were wonderful. La Scala's staff are to be commended: very pleasant, courteous and giving the feeling you are totally welcomed Our waiter, , Bulat , was very professional and gave outstanding service and answered our questions thoroughly. Can't wait to go back!"

  • "Two of a company meeting to try this spot. Loved the food, service and chef/owner. So switched next evening's larger group dinner to go back and all enjoyed it just as much."

  • "Fantastic. As usual. Willie is one if the best servers in Greater Baltimore"

  • "I personally would suggest that you request a table away from the Bocci Ball court. While it is unique and different to have a court inside the restaurant, the tables that sit in the balcony above the courts are noisey."

  • "I am a frequent flyer of La Scala and they have yet to disappoint. The ambience is great. There is an upscale, romantic feel in the dining area but a relaxed atmosphere in the bar. Who could not love a place with an indoor bocce court?? (which they encourage you to play during your visit and explain the rules if asked). I love the recent addition of the upstairs outdoor patio. The food is always delicious. My favorite is penne a la vodka! Very often they have a grilled octopus appetizer which is spectacular. Large wine selection and staff is very helpful with guiding wine/food pairing. If you are there early, they have a great happy hour food and drink menu. For those of you staying at a nearby hotel, they offer free shuttle service."

  • "We had excellent Italian food trying many of the specials. Skip the dessert. It was average at best and very expensive."

  • "This is one of our favorite Italian restaurants. Anytime we are near Baltimore we try to east at La Scala. The Cesar salad is the best!"

  • "Great restaurant from the minute you walk in the door. You are greeted promptly ans seated without hesitation. This is our go to Italian restaurant, the service and food are always spot on. Owner/chef Niño comes around to make sure everyone is doing ok. I would recommend this place to everyone."

  • "We went to La Scala for our anniversary and it was perfect. The service was great. Our appetizer came out right away and our water was being filled before it was even finished. The food was delicious and the restaurant was clean. The staff were friendly and inviting from the moment we walked in until the moment we left."

  • "When we asked the concierge at our hotel for a restaurant recommendation she told us "La Scala" without hesitation, when we consulted Trip Advisor the restaurant also received wonderful accolades......after experiencing this wonderful gem we completely agree! The ambience, food and food were all fabulous.....you must try there warm Caesar salad (ask for a 1/2 portion...it is plenty big enough), and the chef's mother makes the homemade cannolis....an added bonus was the bocce ball court as you entered the restaurant ....after we ate we had a great time playing a game with our teenage kids!"

  • "Nice quiet ambience for reacquainting with old friends. Our dinners were good. But too many menu choices were too rich for me in that they had cream in them. Although the restaurant wasn't busy at all, our waiter never came over to ask if we wanted coffee for dessert. After about 20 minutes we finally asked him about it."

  • "We made reservations. Yet we still waited for 30 minutes for a table. That's why they have indoor Bocce. Food was Ok but it wasn't good enough for the prices charged. Decor was kitsch-y."

  • "Like other reviewers, I was here for a special occasion celebrating my anniversary. The anniversary card and complimentary champagne was a nice touch. I saw that others have gotten dessert on special occasions but I much preferred the champagne! There's a lot to choose from on the menu which made deciding very difficult! Once we finally made a decision the food was very delicious :) The service was fantastic. Attentive but not hovering so it was the perfect medium. I would definitely recommend La Scala to others."

  • "The service at La Scala was awesome and the food was very good. The manager made a recommendation for our entre' and it was great! This is a cool neighborhood gem. There entre' selection was extensive, so there is something for everyone."

  • "This restaurant was recommended by someone who has been there many times. It has charming decor and a quiet indoor bocci court which you can overlook. It is casual but lovely. However, the one time that I visited, we had a very glum waiter, barely talked, offered no help when asked for a recommendation. The brochetta was excellent, but the veal parmesan was loaded down with cheese (you could barely taste the veal), and the penne pasta was overcooked, and both items did not have enough sauce. Coming from NY, I KNOW good Italian food. The person who recommended La Scala assured me that this was just an off night, or an off meal, and so I will give them another try."

  • "Picked this restaurant for a special occasion and wrote a note on the reservation that we were celebrating a birthday. The hostess presented my boyfriend with a birthday card from the restaurant upon seating us! Our meal was beyond lovely and our server was very attentive as well. We were too stuffed for dessert after our delicious meal, but the server still brought us a small sliver of tiramisu to share, complete with a glowing candle on top! He even knew enough not to sing and make a big production! It was an understated, elegant, and touching end to our wonderful meal. We will definitely be coming back!"

  • "The food was awesome, tons of specials so no need to even look at the menu; just the huge wine list. The best part though was the service. Everyone, not just your server knew the wine you were drinking. They were a team that checked in often but not intrusive. I mentioned the dinner was an anniversary when I booked it online, not really expecting much. Maybe a decent table. We got congrats from the hostess, who then brought an envelope with a card signed by the owner/chef Niño with a nice Italian saying. We also got dessert with a candle at the end, but the card was the kicker for me. Good atmosphere, great food and better service. Do it...do it."

  • "Food is usually very good. One of the largest filets I have ever seen. Better & larger than most steakhouses at a very competitive price. Bone in veal chop was outstanding."

  • "The Olive oil they bring with the bread is the best I have ever had! I would like to know the brand so I can order it at home. I ordered the Veal Francese and it had the perfect blend of sauce and seasoning. It came with a side of pasta with marinara that was simple but very tasty. I also ordered some garlic bread with mozzarella cheese and for my taste I like a little more garlic but it was still good dipped into the olive oil. I had a reservation at 5:45 and got there at 5:15 and was seated right away. It was quiet then a big group came in next to me and the noise level was raised a little but eventually they closed the door and it was nice and quiet again. If I am ever back in the Baltimore area I will definitely go back to this place!"

  • "Had the veal marsala while my boyfriend had the veal alla parmigiana. Even though I'm not a fan of veal or chicken parmesan, his dish was even better than mine - his veal was even more tender and not heavy at all. They both came with a side of penne pasta which was also so delicious. I like my pasta super al dente, and even though this was softer than I normally like, I actually thought the pasta was perfect. Portions are pretty large, and very filling. The table next to us requested things that were not on the menu and the accomodated without any problems. If you book ahead, you can ask for a nicer table upstairs (where we were) or outside. It was so romantic, I plan on going back again."

  • "Baltimore's "Little Italy's" LaScala is a gem, the perfect Italian Restaurant. Families having fun, romantic diners at a corner table and even a bocce ball court in the entrance. All this accompanied by great food and attentive service."

  • "This absolutely wonderful restaurant in little Italy is anabsolute gem. Service was impeccable. The veal dishes were so tender and flavorful. Worst thing I can say is , it's hard to decide on what to eat, so many great choices."

  • "We really enjoyed the restaurant, the food and waiters. We didn't care for our table for 2 in the main level dining room. It is next to the stand where the gentleman accesses water, etc. and we felt it is in a poor location."
