La ProvenceMother's Day SpecialI took my wife there for Mother's Day. Overall it was a pleasant experience. However the Oysters ooo-la-la had a distinct fish taste. Oysters should taste like oysters; they should not taste like fish. I enjoyed the fired red fish. I ordered it by mistake because I don't eat fired foods. However, the fish was so lite and flakey that I really enjoyed it. I also like the Ponchatoula Strawberry Shortcake in a Jar...a very clever idea. The day was perfectly relaxed and the dining experience was superb! The menu offerings were, as always, difficult to narrow to one. We selected a variety to feast on and we were delighted with out selections. We also ventured to the rear of the property to visit with the pigs. It was an orverall enjoyable experience! The dishes are unique and tasty, the service is courteous and warm, the ambience is pleasant (with natural light where we sat). The wine selection is not broad but good. Pretty sure they grow/raise a lot of what you eat on the premises. Compact and beautiful bar with a large selection of great wine. Chose duck and asked the waiter to help me select a wine. He was knowledgeable and together we picked the perfect complement to my entree. Service was great, and food was extremely well presented and prepared. We were all tasting each others food when the hostess came over to see how we were doing. I thought she would scold us for sharing, but instead she commented that she wished all the diners would do the same! All in all a fabulous experience. John Besh is a familiar person down here and he cares about the area and the quality of the product he serves, so we had to check it out. We especially enjoyed the quail gumbo, what a treat! My wife had the tuna which was fabulous(cooked perfectly) and I had the duck that melted in your mouth.
The decor was very nice and the service was exceptional. Everyone was very attentive and if you asked for anything it was there in a split second.
Worth every nickel!

My wife and I came to celebrate our 6th anniversary. We made the reservations on line it was so simple and when we arrived they were ready for us.
The wait staff is very good and very knowledgeable of the wine list and menu. They are very pleasant and not pushy or hovering.
When our desserts came they had lit a candle on each of our plates and they wished us happy anniversary.
This is our 5 or 6 time coming to La Provence and we plan on going back my more times. I have guests in town from Jacksonville, FL and wanted to take them somewhere nice. our reservations were for 08:15, and we we were seated immediately. Appetizers were delicious (Wild Boar Ravioli, Duck Confit, and Fried Oysters)! So were the entrees (Fillet, Crispy Sheephead, Roasted Duck, and Tuna steak). All were plated beautiful... Almost a shame to eat! After dinner which we paired with wine from their reasonable wine list, we had dessert. If you haven't been here, it's worth going just for the Bacon & Pecan Ice Cream! We have been many times before but have not visited for the about a year or more. We feel that La Provence has regained its place as the place to go on the Northshore and it feels very similar to when Chef Chris K ran the place for many years - that's a tribute to John Besh as he's managed to keep it traditional but with a few infusions of new items. The $45 menu was a bargain and had plenty on selections to choose from. The food was very good and plentiful. You will not leave here feeling hunger!
