perfect! The food was tasty, well prepared & inventive. So good that i would have loved bigger portions.
The decor was charming yet downbeat and comfortable. Conversation was easy, even though the place was full.
Service was impeccable!
I will return.6/9/2013 12:00:00 AMNot to be missed!Great, creative food. Focus on fresh produce. Excellent service. A great new discovery for us and we will be sure to be back!6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMj from oaklandreally enjoyed our meal - great antipasto - and very good pizza. ambience relaxed in a 'formal' way. recommend highly.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMLa Posta is great, not pretentiousWe meant to go for over a year, and made a reservation--recommended--to celebrate a special occasion. Great food, good wine list, knowledgeable server / staff who don't kill you with impressive foodie talk--unless you want to talk like that.
Good wait time between dishes, not rushed, old school dark interior with soft light.
Go try!6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMgreat food but overpriced wine listIn general, food was excellent. Salmon was very fresh and perfectly cooked. Green salads were outstanding, the thin crust pizza made with artichokes, garlic and fontina cheese was delicious. The canneloni dish was idiosyncratic, foregoing the rich cream sauce expected in favor of some heart-healthier, yet still tasty variant. The wine list was all Italian, disappointing our out-of-town guest who looked forward to experiencing some local wines. The Pinot Nero from the Alto Adage region of Italy we selected was delicious but cost $60/bottle. A "low-cost" alternative, a so-called Primitivo at $33/bottle , was too primitive indeed. Beyond this, service was quite good, background music was tasteful and not too loud. Overall, La Posta delivered!6/5/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing Italian food in Santa CruzIt felt like we were in Italy because the food was so fresh, considered and delicious. The wine selection was a great compliment to the foods. I had a fresh taglitelle with lamb ragu which I won't forget anytime soon. Everyone of our 4 diners enjoyed the meal - walnut bread, appetizers, main course and desserts.6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMBest restaurant in SC!Great food, decor, service...prices are reasonable for well sourced, well prepared and interesting dishes. The bread alone is the best I have ever tasted!6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMFood, Friends, Bread & WinePerfect place to break bread with friends. Fun to share some of the fresh veggie dishes and antipasti — of course the bread is delightful. Neighborhood feel, with big city taste. Local, fresh fare. Reasonable, well-selected wine list.
Loved the thinly sliced asparagus dish, along with the the snap-pea & squash with cheese crumbled on top! Fresh, local salmon with fresh artichoke hearts on a bed of lentils - need I say no more.
Friendly, but professional and efficient staff.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat SurpriseWe were visiting Santa Cruz and looking for something different. I did a search and found this restaurant a five mintue walk from where we were staying. And what a find. The restaurant makes their own sourdough and walnut bread. The walnut bread is a sourdough base. FANTASTIC! This is not your typical Italian restaurant. My girlfriend had the pizza made with homemade sausage. Best thin crust pizza yet. I had the grilled quail. Another palate pleaser. Great wine list containing wines from the Italian regions. Our waiter recommended one for our meal. A great compliment to our meal and a new favorite for our list. Go early or make reservations. The restaurant fills fast. Well worth a visit. We will definitely go back.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMCelebrated Grandma's 78thCelebrated Grandma's 78th birthday with baby in tow. Gracious helpful staff and great food.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMFavorite Santa Cruz RestaurantSecond time here this year. Love the food. My husband had a simple lettuce salad and almost cried at how good the lettuce was and we eat fresh local all the time. The combinations for the salads, the mains, the pastas, they are all unbelievably good.
We would probably eat here weekly but santa cruz is our vacation home but we go everytime we are in town!5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent dinners for group of 4We joined another couple for dinner at La Posta several nights ago, having been there only one previous time over a year ago, when the meal was OK but nothing more. This time the four of us had a much better experience. Two of us had appetizers as well as a pasta dish, two had pizzas and I had an outstanding halibut dish, perfectly prepared and very tasty. Service was excellent. We brought one bottle of very good wine and then had two small carafes of house red and white--both acceptable--and we shared a chocolate semifreddi dessert. While it can be very noisy there, we were lucky and could talk at normal levels. Will definitely return sooner than the last time!5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMfood, friends, and good musicWe like to go on locals night, Tuesday, for the excellent music by the string duo (sometimes trio) that sets the tone for a wonderful meal of regional Italian food with a distinct local interpretation of great fresh ingredients in imaginative offerings by a gem of a shy chef! Everything comes together for the perfect Santa Cruz evening--and the wine selections are a bonus delight.5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMAwesomeBusy sat night. We walked in and were seated immediately. Food is awesome, couldn't read wine list so waiter helped us make selection. It was perfect.GREAT SERVICE5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMSuprisinglyElegentAfter a referral from a friend, followed by booking an easy reservation at open table and arriving promptly at opening we were quickly ushered to our seats(myself and my wife) Drink orders taken, and delivered surprisingly quickly in spite the restaurant filling up. An absolutely great selection of imported wines, a great start to a delicious meal. For appetizers a delicious plate of warmed olives, followed by some Baked Bellwether Ricotta, the mixture of cheese, nuts, and kumquats were a perfect blend on the palate. For Entree I had the Veal and Polpette(sausages with potatoes, spring onions and watercress) never have eaten veal before, each bite of this dish offered exquisite texture and taste till the very end A must try establishment5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMTuesday in the 'hoodIf you want to experience Italian food with a quirky twist, and get a great deal at the same time, try La Posta on Tuesday Neighborhood night. In addition to getting a tasty pasta or pizza dish and a glass of wine at a reasonable price, there is also live music. This restaurant, housed in an old post office building, has paid attention to what customers want. Small plates, interesting and unusual combinations of foods prepared well and presented artistically. This is not a red vinyl tablecloth Italian cafe offering so much food that you have later regrets. Healthy offerings, elegantly prepared and served. Satisfy your urge to find a new, different kind of restaurant, located in a neighborhood, unusual offerings. Yum!5/7/2013 12:00:00 AMFirst time at la Posta andFirst time at la Posta and we will definitely be back. There's a small menu so the choices are limited, but what is offered is outstanding. Fresh ingredients, beautifully prepared and well presented. Garginelli with pork, halibut and asparagus gratinata were all excellent. Wine list is nice, although a little pricey. Restaurant will be quite loud when full. Nice to have parking in the rear. You will not be disappointed.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMgood experienceI have been to La Posta on a number of occasions and have always been impressed with the food. This continued to be true this time as well. The small plates and dessert were particularly superb. The main was good but not amazing - I think I might stick with their pizza next time which is always superb. We got the table we wanted (not always the case) so we were content to just hang out, eat, drink wine and enjoy our conversation without feeling overly rushed (we had dinner late but we did notice that we, as well as those before us, were given their bill with their dessert - a bit crass). But overall, on this and all previous occasions, we have enjoyed our experience at La Posta. Its pricey so a special occasion restaurant.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent ItalianIf you are looking for Italian cuisine that goes beyond the American-Italian pasta fare, then this is your place. Regional specialties and regional wines =)5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMThe Duck Confit and the BurattaWe a couple of appetizers, and a pizza. All was great.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat FindLa Posta is a small neighborhood restaurant near the Santa Cruz harbor serving Italian cuisine and supported by a full bar and impressive Italian wine list. The restaurant has limited parking in back, but street parking is available. Seating capacity too is limited but they do take reservations and we found our table ready for us even though the house was full on a busy Friday night. Our waiter was prompt, courteous, helpful, and attentive, but not to excess. We found the food plentiful, fresh, and tasty. The recommended wine was excellent. Definitely on our list to return and a nice change of pace from some of Santa Cruz's more notable establishments.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMLa Posta non PastaA bit too noisy for me on a Friday night but everyone seemed to be having a great time—a great place for being with friends. The menu seemed a bit limited to me with not enough vegetarian options. What is offered has very interesting pairings of ingredients and the care and presentation of the food was very good. They service was good, especially for how busy it was. Not a place to go if you would like a variety of pasta dishes, but instead a place to go for more gourmet offerings. Would not recommend to vegetarians, but that may have been the luck of the draw with the current menu. The wine list was very good.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMMenu always changing. GreatMenu always changing. Great place to explore new tastes. We were there on a Friday night and they were busy.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMGood to have here!A real great addition to our neighborhood. It serves us all very well!4/23/2013 12:00:00 AMEating at La Posta was a delight.Eating at La Posta was a delight. It was San Francisco quality. Lovely inside. Service was very good except for a long wait to order. All servers were attentive and knowledgeable. The food was excellent, very fresh, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. The chicken saltimbocca was absolutely delicious. My friend says the meatballs were the best she's ever had. The bread... oh the bread. They make it in-house, and it is too die for. Perfect texture inside and out, and the flavor is unreal. I would go back just for the bread! The quality of the food was outstanding, and the menu choices were great. The only complaint was the dessert; the buckwheat cake was dry and needed a lot more sauce.4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMReally delicious dishes!Really delicious dishes! Creative and well executed. Nothing heavy handed or tired about their food/menu. Definitely going back :)4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMFresh spring flavorBy far the tastiest meal we have both had in a while. I don't know how they made such a superb salad with only a few ingredients, but it was beyond fresh and wonderfully seasoned. My tagliatelle tasted like spring itself. Yum.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMPerfect Italian in Santa CruzExcellent by any standard! We were there on a Thurs night w our two kids (10 & 4). We tried a "tasting menu" of different starters/antipasti of our arrangement. All were creative and very well-executed. The asparagus in a cream sauce, the rapini, the baked ricotta, and the pizze were excellent. The wine list is carefully chosen though not expansive. The grapefruit & Campari sorbet was the perfect ending. Look forward to our next dining experience at La Posta4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMI took four colleagues duringI took four colleagues during a weekend work session. All four were blown away by the great food, the comfortable atmosphere and good service. Many of us had the specials, and were pleased with the wonderful quality of the up to the minute fresh food (nettles, pea shoots, etc.). I am moving La Posta to my top ten list on Open Table.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMEverything was perfect fromEverything was perfect from the moment we walked into the restaurant until we left. The hostess made us feel so special upon arrival. Since we were

The service and great and the food wonderful...will return.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was delicious. TheThe food was delicious. The serving size was good. We had reservations and they were honored. We were seated in a private corner. The restaurant was about 10% full, yet a group of five was seated right next to the two of us and we could hear everything they said and we could not converse and hear each other. Why were they seated so close to us when the restaurant was hardly full. Our waitress was very nice and very helpful with the wine selection.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was the best meal we'veThis was the best meal we've had at a restaurant in a long time: superbly fresh ingredients, simply prepared, delicious.3/9/2013 12:00:00 AMA welcome change in the wayA welcome change in the way food is prepared. Ingredients were well prepared, with very subtle flavors leaving one to guess at how they were selected. very nice selection of wines, both local and foreign. A must visit in Santa Cruz.1/26/2013 12:00:00 AMA wide slection of carefullyA wide slection of carefully selected italian wines makes this restaurant a goto restaurant when we are in town.
