Look at: OpenTable [Incident: 140712-000564] 07/12/2014 06:53 AM I made this reservation in May for July 11, and you sent the confirmation on July 10. This restaurant is in Montreal QC and very highly regarded. "La Porte will be ready for your party of 4 at 7:00 PM on Friday, July 11, 2014. Confirmation Number: 528492386" Last evening when I arrived with my party of 4, the restaurant was closed, with Real Estate agents for rent sign on the door. The next door neighbor,a florist told us that the restaurant has been closed for about a month. This is what I get for not dealing directly with the restaurant! How do you keep up to date with this kind of irregularity? Their web site still says nothing about it being closed.

A lovely unpretentious restaurant on Boulevard St. Laurent (a street not famous for great food) The guinea fowl and halibut dishes were excellent as were the desserts. The folks behind this establishment are from France's Brittany region and based on our first experience here have a real winner!

We only had one free night in Montreal so we chose this restaurant on Opentable Top Restaurants. Limited reasonable wines so we chose $75 French Red Burgundy. We decided to share an appetizer and have 2 main courses. The meal was old style. Small portions, bland, luke warm, thick, salty sauces. We had riz de veau appetizer ($18) which was deep fried, small with a bland sauce. I had the cerf (baby deer) and my wife had the (Sea) Ray cheeks with a bit of lobster. Minuscule portions for $34-$38 approx) and hard to share! No dessert or coffees. Total $206 plus $30 tip to Pascale (Thierry's spouse/ owner). Pascale was very pleasant. Old style cooking, older atmosphere.

The presentation of every plate was fantastic. It made you in appetite. The subtility of the ingredients..Everything was perfect. And the choice of wine they served with every dish was in symbiose. We had dinner in the context of Montreal en Lumiere with a chef from Paris.

I went to la Porte for a client's lunch. Was looking for a nice restaurant in this area. There is not that many, to say the least. La porte is a great find for me! great food, great service... the owners are from France (don't remember what part) and I took a desert from that region...god it was amazing! will go again for sure!

This small restaurant turns out some outstanding dishes. Food was so well prepared. I had some truly perfectly prepared flat fish. Dishes were timed perfectly with the right amount of time between courses. Only complaint is - plates stayed on table too long. Some of the music was inappropriate for the locale. The restaurant is small and well laid out - not the place for the repetitive techno whatever with the endless repetitive drum beat restaurants so favor these days. Keep the music subtle and melodic. But I would go back again - food is very good.

We had the Menu Plaisir (the cheapest of their three set menus; the prices are on their website). Every dish was beautiful and tasted very well (our favourite was the dessert Kouign-Amann). I enjoyed the decor and loved the music. Everybody in our group was happy after the meal. The place was less than half-empty on a Thursday night (it seems their last reservations Mon-Thu are at 7pm), so it was very quiet. Quiet is what I was looking for. A very good place, will come back. I would call it amazing if it was cheaper.

An eclectic place. The service was poor. Unless you order a 7 course meal or are known to the staff, the service is poor. It's like you are rated by staff by how many drinks you order. The appetizers not exciting. The service lacks attention to the client. It wasn't an overly busy night and there are many other good choices for dinner. Overall very disappointing and staff is neutral to your enjoyable experience.

I brought my fiance here for his birthday and it was a perfect choice. We splurged on the tasting menu as well as wines to match each dish, and we were treated with a lovely range of perfectly prepared dishes, served by a very knowledgeable, professional and friendly waiter. We also met the lovely owner and the chef. One lovely little touch - the chef wrote in cream "joyeux anniversaire!" on Michael's dessert plate. To truly enjoy this restaurant, do not rush; we were there the entire evening and enjoyed our time, savouring the food and the relaxing ambience. If you appreciate excellent food and professional service, you must try this restaurant. It deserves more attention.

A few times a year, my wife and I splurge a little and eat somewhere exciting and expensive. We've eaten in the top restaurants of Los Angeles, San Francisco, Washington DC and to a lesser degree New York. La Porte is the only restaurant in Montreal that we've been to that could handily compete it that category. Indeed, La Porte has become one of our favourite restaurants anywhere. The food here is creative and well-executed. The breadth of choices in their small menu is quite astonishing, given the size of the restaurant. And it's all perfectly done. They do a superb job of matching wines with the food (primarily French wines to match with the Breton-inspired cuisine). And their hospitality is fantastic. We will be back.

We were looking for a special place to celebrate our friends 10th Anniversary and chose La Porte after alot of research on line. It did not disappoint. We all chose the Gourmand menu and had wonderful plate after plate. The lamb was crazy good, as was the Hallibut and lobster plate. We all sampled the salmon which was melt in your mouth good. Great service topped it off. Loved it!

My wife and I each had a tasting menu and slected different items and then shared. EVERY item was exceptional!

I had quite high expectations towards this restaurant, bringing my companion for a romantic diner for his 30th b-day. The food was good, but not exceptional or refined as it should be for this kind of restaurant. I have eaten better for cheaper. And the service was very polite and cold as it sometimes is the case in so called refined/high class restaurants. I would not fo back there.

The food was very good but I have concerns about the attitude from the service staff. You indicate on your website that they accept the American Express card. When I got there I asked if they take the card and the lady at reception who is the owner gave me a condescending lecture about the fact that she does not take Amex because of the high commission rates. She told me to change cards as I amt the only person left using the card. It ended up that my invitee paid for the lunch instead. I can understand that somebody can be upset about the high rates from Amex but they should not make the client feel like an idiot.
