A low key, welcoming atmosphere. A lovely space. Quiet enough for good conversation. Excellent, discreet service. Good menu spiced up by interesting & tasty specials. Very good food. The servings are small but very satisfying. It is a little off the beaten track but provides a respite from what can be the insanity of The French Quarter.

  • Top 10 restaurant in NOLA

You will not be disappointed! We visit NOLA 2-3 times a year and find new places to eat each time. On the advice of a colleage we tried out La Petite Grocery. Upon arrival we were seated immediately. We were greeted by our server, Emma as soon as we were seated. Emma described the specials with great knowledge and detail. Emma also assisted me with a wine selection. We chose a Red Burgundy and she brought the appropriate glassware. We started with the scallop appetizer, incredeble! My wife had shrimp and grits. If you think you've had shrimp and grits before, you haven't had it this good before. I chose the rabbit. May be one of the best meals I've had. The chef truly knows the art of french cooking. We finished with Creme Brulee, not like any other I've had before. I couldn't give a higher recommendation. Make sure you ask for Emma as she was extremely plesant, knowledgeable and attentive.

First note, our server Sean was one of, if not the finest servers I've experienced at any restaurant. Le Petite doesn't miss a beat in any area, appetizers, salads, entrées or dessert. The blue crab beignets, a must appetizer and the night we dined they had a venison entree that was off the charts. Bottom line, no matter what you order here, it's a winner.

The expectations for our dnner were quite high and they were exceeded by the chefs and staff of LPG. We started our night off with cocktails, the Ruby Red Reviver and LPG French 75, which were well made, not overly strong or weak, well balanced. For an appetizer, the Blue Crab Beignets jumped out at us and they were fantastic. For our main entrees we went with the Hand Made Pappardelle and the Paneed Rabit with a side of the Pickle Jar and Roasted Brussel Sprouts, with the guidance of our knowledgeable server. We both skipped dessert as we were too full, but the dessert menu looked delicious. Our service was professional, knowledgeable, and attentive, and we were never rushed; we view going out to dinner as an experience and dislike being rushed through our meal. All in all, a great experience.

Good points - the restaurant Is beautiful and the service in general was very good. Bad points - the food was under seasoned. I had the grouper special that in general was very well prepared but could have had a bit more flavor. The Natural Roasted Chicken Breast that my sister ordered was so bland that she took a few bites and gave up. And here is where my issue with the service comes in. The back waiter that picked up our finished plates should have noted to the head waiter that the chicken was practically untouched. Or the headwaiter should have been observing to see how our meal was going. A full plate going back to the kitchen is a sign of a problem that should be addressed with the customer. It was a shame because this was a special birthday dinner for my sister that turned out not to be at all special. We had such high hopes.

We wanted a special spot to take our college-aged son to dinner while we were visiting. La Petit Grocery had been highly recommended by a good friend and we were pleased that it did not disappoint. The evening specials added a lot to the menu. The crab beignets were amazing. The gingerbread cake with fresh ginger and butternut squash side dish added to the lovely autumnal overtones. We would definitely like to revisit!

In brief, my first impression was not good because I was told in a mildly arrogant tone, every time I had contact with the restaurant, that they only held tables for fifteen minutes, and that the whole party had to be present to be seated. This seemed unfriendly when I called, five minute before our grace period was up, to explain that a detour due to road construction was delaying us. Especially when we arrived, at 5:45, to a nearly empty restaurant. (It was parents' weekend at Tulane, and that was all we were able to get three weeks in advance.) The waiter was attentive and helpful, but my mother was displeased with her fibrous lamb chops that had little meat on them. I was disappointed with the two, tiny breaded filets of rabbit served over a dollop of purée (for $29). I am a light eater, but that seemed wrong. I also enjoy rabbit, and the breaded patties could have been any meat. They were tasty, but the description did not say it was breaded, or I would not have ordered it. The best part of the meal was the butterscotch pudding my daughter ordered for dessert. The small cookies they were served with were not very good, but the pudding was outstanding.

i went with a large group. overall we had a lovely meal but the service was uneven. it took about 20 minutes to get a server to come to our table, and another 25 minutes before we got our cocktails, and probably an hour before we gave our order. we had a late reservatoin and the place was starting to empty out, so this did not make sense. Our server was more attentive as the restaurant got emptier. I dont think the service problems had anything to do with group. However, I would go back again. The food was good, and the place was extremely charming.

First and foremost if you are going for brunch, get the ramos gin fizz, it is the perfect cure for a hangover! From there everything you get will be fantastic. The blue crab beignets are unbelievable, and something that you have to order. Stuffed full of blue crab, and has all the deliciousness of a beignet. We also had the fried green tomatoes with buratta and they were great as well. This time for an entree I got the blue crab and eggs florentine which was fantastic. My wife got the shrimp role and she was equally as happy. The handcut fires are delicious. Overall you will not be disappointed with a trip here!

Our meal at La Petite Grocery was a wonderful experience. The dining room provides a beautiful setting, with the classic old-world charm of the Garden District. Our food was skillfully executed, and consistently delicious. Standouts from this visit were: blue crab beignets, fried green tomatoes, hand made spaghetti [with blue crab], oyster stew (special), and gulf fish (special). Desserts are also wonderful. Our service was friendly and efficient. Definitely recommended for a special occasion or a romantic evening.

Incredible! Far from the quarter but sitting in between warehouse and Garden. This was some if the best southern food I ever had. Crab beignets, fried green Toms and calamari rocked it. My local arugula sald should be a staple on the menu. We shared paneed Rabbit shrimp & Grits. Heaven in my mouth. As we slid into decadence, butterscotch pudding with homemade sesame cookies sent me...Christy our server was perfectly honest and knowledgeable about each dish. Her sway was her swag and we adored her for it all. Never rushed it, let us sit and we shut it down! Awesome.

Everything clicked on my visit with three friends. The setting is gorgeous and we were fortunate to have Wade as our server. Bobby, the manager, truly oversees and orchestrates everything--- bar, service, food. He's also the ambassador for this top five NOLA restaurants. We were lucky enough to be there on a night that the roasted peppers were available. We all joined the clean plate club-- two cobia and two flounder specials. After dinner drinks and dessert rounded out this most memorable experience. Hats off!

Enjoyed a wonderful dinner here on Saturday night. The restaurant lived up to the reviews that I had seen and those that put it into the top 10 restaurants for 2014. The food was great from crab beignets to the special almond satsuma cake (amazingly light). I had shrimp and grits - delicious, just the right sized portion, creamy grits, good size shrimp and a wonderful sauce around the edge. I wanted to try the special salad that night but wanted to save room for dessert and was very glad that I had. The interior of the restaurant is inviting. I really like how they took an old grocery and turned it into a lovely, high ceiling space - intimate but energetic.

Although the shrimp and grits were good, I really think yellow grits would make them better. Also, I think you should include more than 5 shrimp on the dish. Shrimp are very plentiful here and not that expensive. The crab beingnets? are delicious. The service was excellent! We will return. Thanks, Peggy Simmons P.S. We thought the syrup for the waffles was too sweet. Maple syrup would be much better. I realize you like to use local ingredients, but the syrup was overly sweet.

Went to La Petite this week and the food overall was good. Crab beignets were great. My aunt and I had the filet, both cooked perfectly. My dad and wife had the panne rabbit and it was delicious. My mom had the turtle Bolognese and said it was 'just ok'. My cousin had the seafood stew which was not very good. Broth was bitter and the shrimp were underdone. Prices were moderate to expensive and for the price I have eaten at better N.O. restaurants. My parents asked the waiter to split the bill before we ate and the bill was all-inclusive. Our waiter was condescending and rude and his service was extremely slow. Gratuities are added for parties of 6 or more which is ridiculous (I could see 10 or more). Overall good but not spectacular.

This was our pick for our "nice dinner" out, and it didn't disappoint. For appetizers we had braised ribs, gulf shrimp with roasted pork belly, and the blue crab beignets. All were delicious but the crab beignets were incredible. If you can only have 1 appetizer pick it. Entrees were also outstanding. We sampled the seafood stew, a daily special of seared grouper with lentils and wilted green, and the fried pork loin. Ambiance was great, not too noisy, staff attentive and accomodating. I highly recommend.

I had two out-of-town guests who wanted to see a neighborhood restaurant, and La Petite is always a reliable choice for dinner. We had an early reservation because they had an early morning conference session the next day. We were nearly alone in the place for about 45 minutes which made the inattentive service a little difficult to fathom. But the food (crab beignets, shrimp and grits, butterscotch pudding) was excellent, as usual. The noise level is typical New Orleans neighborhood level as soon as the place fills up, though, so go early if you want to talk.

Tbe food was spectacular. My group tends to order many different things to try and thus time was no different. Wr were all so impressed, but what lacked was the service. As the waiter didn't understand why we ordered bread for the mussels or in an effort to save time, we should order wine immediately. We will go back again, but not be served by the waiter, who generously received 20% tip from our host.....others, like myself would have given him much les
