Diner Reviews
  • "Good food all the way around, great service. Crab beignets were special. Well made cocktails. "

  • "La Petit was our choice for a last dinner in New Orleans. It was POURING out when we dragged our soaked bodies into the restaurant, but we were warmly received. A table was immediately ready. Adrian was our server, and he made us immediately feel welcome. He was funny, attentive but not overbearing. Our appetizer (crab beignet), salad and entrees (shrimp and grits/seafood stew) were delicious and well-prepared. We ordered the strawberry shortcake for dessert; the kitchen was "short" on the shortcake so we had to wait for a grand total of FIVE minutes (with an apology by Adrian, yet!). Believe me, after a non-stellar experience at an unrelated facility the night before, that wait was NOTHING. All-in-all, a GREAT food and ambience. Thank you!"

  • "After watching Top Chef in NOLA we had to check out Justin's place and it did not disappoint. Loverly decor, excellent food, great service!"

  • "Great atmosphere and absolutely fantastic food. Exceeded expectations in every way. "

  • "In New Orleans for a week of business, I sought to get away from the Convention Center hustle. Though this restaurant is a solid 10-15 minute taxi drive away, it's worth it for those who want to see New Orleans beyond the typical tourist spots. We felt like locals discovering this gem--and were so thrilled with it. Most of all, the blue crab beignets are out of this world. They should be on everyone's bucket list when visiting New Orleans. Plus the wait staff is five-star, and the ambiance is sweet, quaint, and comfortable (not pretentious at all, but certainly with elegance and taste). Expect small but superb portions. This restaurant upholds its "Top Ten in New Orleans" rating."

  • "We love this place and it's always great BUT they need to change up the menu more often. "

  • "I can't wait for my next trip to New Orleans to go back here. Service was amazing, food was even better! Perfect meal! "

  • "the food at la petite grocery was good. a few dishes were extremely good, but i found several to be a little too salty. i enjoyed the ambiance very much, and our sever was very helpful and had a good sense of timing."

  • "it was our anniversary and wanted to celebrate....did not disappoint!"

  • "great food, the portions are small so it is smart to share an app first. I recommend the blue crab beignets!"

  • "I wish there was an additional rating between Very Good and Outstanding, let's say Excellent. While not the best meal my wife and I have ever had, it was still up there. My wife and I shared the Blue Crab Beignets and thought they were terrific. We both had the beef fillet and found it MUCH better than the fillet at Dickie Brennan's Steakhouse. The Warm Chocolate Thingy dessert and Creme Brulee were also excellent. We will be back!"

  • "This was our first visit to La Petite for brunch. We tend to go to the same places when we visit New Orleans. This was a pleasant change. The food was spot on. Our server, Nikki was friendly and had a great sense of humor. We had the blue crab beignets, blistered peppers and braised short rib for appetizers. For the entrees, paneed rabbit, gulf shrimp and grits, blue crab and eggs florentine (the biscuit was decadent). We shared a dessert (warm chocolate & almond date cake) which was not on the same level as the other courses. Wonderful wonderful food and great use of a historic space."

  • "The resturant is beautiful but unfortunately the food is uneven. While the beef was delicious and tender, the chicken was dry and bland. I would go elsewhere. There are too many other great alternatives in NOLA."

  • "i've been to this restaurant several times, never disappointed, and never sorry i chose this one instead of so many other fine restaurants in the area."

  • "it's always a pleasure when a restaurant actually lives up to it/s rave reviews and Le Petite Grocery did. Don't miss the blue crab beignets. They are sublime! Next time we are in New Orleans it's the first place we'll eat"

  • "Found out about LPG from Chef Justin's time on Top Chef. Even though he didn't win on the show his gem in LPG did."
    Dined on 4/4/2014
  • "La Petite Grocery was a delightful discovery for two NOLA visitors who thoroughly enjoyed the tasty fare and warm ambience LPG offers. Our meals began with the grilled octopus and the soup du jour (pureed celery root and white asparagus), which engaged our tastebuds with wonderful flavors. We followed these with the shrimp & grits and beef tenderloin entrees, which both featured sauces that made each dish memorable. We topped off our dinner with a shared butterscotch pudding, at our server's recommendation. It was fabulous! So glad we chose to dine at LPG!"

  • "The food at LPG is so stunningly amazing, I was blown away. I booked this restaurant on a whim for my husband's birthday without any prior knowledge. Little did I know that it is a two-time James Beard award winner. Food was superb, presentation was simple and delightful and the portions were very good sized. I highly recommend the ricotta dumplings with lobster & peas. The shrimp and grits are also the best in the city. I would go back as often as possible. The check also didn't kill my wallet. I was so pleasantly surprised. This restaurant is a total winner."

  • "Great restaraunt for a romantic date or a casual lunch. Beautiful atmosphere."
    Dined on 4/5/2014
  • "I've eaten at virtually every name restaurant in New Orleans, and la petite grocery remains at the top of my list. I've had some lackluster meals at Stella, commanders, august, etc. but every experience with la petite grocery has left me more than satisfied. The ingredients are always fresh and unique--but not too unique as to throw off a less adventurous eater. The menu here to my mind captures New Orleans to a t without trying too hard or selling out with clichéd gumbo and the like. The steak tartare rocks my world. The service is excellent, knowledgable, courteous, and friendly, but never pushy. The dining area is small but not cramped, and it can get loud on Friday night but not to the point where you can't have a conversation."

  • "We went to celebrate our anniversary - it was a great choice. The atmosphere was great, the staff were friendly and professional, food was terrific. We requested a window table for 2 and the request was honored. It was perfect! Really loved it and would recommend to everyone!"

  • "This was the second Sunday brunch that my wife and I have had at La Petite Grocery - both excellent. We were seated quickly after arriving a little early for our reservation. Our waiter was very helpful in explaining menu choices as many items are different and special. The bloody mary drink with shrimp, crabmeat and veggies was outstanding and more of an appetizer. The egg, biscuit and crabmeat entrée with smoky crab butter was excellent. We will go back whenever in New Orleans."

  • "The food and drinks were creative and delicious. Bonus: Andrew, a solid and professional waiter, could double for a certain zombie-killing sheriff. #WalkingDead"

  • "The food was delicious, the blue crab beignets are a must! Totally amazing. We took our 1 year old son, and although the staff was gracious, I would not recommend this restaurant for kids. We went for lunch right as it opened for the day, so it was not crowded and very quiet. Maybe when it is busier you could get away with bringing a little one, but I think I'll save this place for just the adults in the future. We will definitely go back though!"

  • "We travel to New Orleans 4 to 5 times a year. This was our first time at this restaurant and it was wonderful. The food was excellent and the service was great. We have already decided that it is one of our favorites and will be back ( hopefully many times)!"

  • "Great restaurant (among many in New Orleans this is a gem)...cozy, great service, great and interesting food, comfortable. If you are driving, call ahead for a code to their parking lot."

  • "friendly, warm delightful crew and ambience. great menu, superb sparkling preparations. blue crab beignets, apple, celeriac, blue cheese salad, shrimp roll, rabbit, shrimp and grits and amazing dessert all fabulous. terrific!"

  • "There are so many good restaurants in NOLA. On our recent visit, we had the pleasure of three dinners out in a row. All were strong. This one was divine...food, ambience, service. Between us, we had a salad, seafood stew, the LPG burger, and roasted peppers (so good.) The portions were moderate, but completely satisfying. Situated in a old building in the Garden District, the setting was lovely, quaint, but not stiff. There is no doubt we will return on our next trip to NOLA."

  • "Didn't quite hit my expectations with the food. Dining room felt a little stuffy."
    Dined on 3/26/2014
  • "We have eaten here a number of times, and until this visit it has always been exceptional. Great atmosphere, remarkable food/menu, and excellent service. For some reason, things didn't come together this time around. There seemed to be a shortage of staff, some of our dishes were overcooked (tough spaetzle, dried-out rabbit). Nonetheless, I would recommend this restaurant -- and chalk it up to an off day. One of our party was celebrating a birthday, and he was thrilled with the candle balanced to his butterscotch pudding (which was excellent)."
    Dined on 3/22/2014
  • "Everything we ate and drank was spectacular! The blue crab beignets...transcendent! The LPG cheeseburger - made with perfectly caramelized onions and a thin slice of gruyere...mmmm...the turtle bolognese and the flounder sandwich all so good. Desserts: root beer floats for the kids and a delicious butterscotch pudding for us. Drinks, brunch...a perfect ending to our stay in NOLA."

  • "The ambiance and service were excellent. The food was delicious, but the price vs. the portions left a lot to be desired."
    Dined on 3/21/2014
  • "We loved everything about this restaurant. My wife had the crab beignets and proclaimed them the best starters she had ever had. Service was cordial and professional. Food items were familar but with interesting twists. All in all we loved it."
    Dined on 3/21/2014
  • "If you are staying in downtown NOLA, or near convention center this place is really far. You have to spend about $30 RT on a taxi, or wing it with public transportation if that is your thing. The food was good but simply too expensive for such little amounts on your plate. My cauliflower soup was delicious, all 1/2 cup of it!"
    Dined on 3/14/2014
  • "This menu is very conducive to solely eating off the appetizer section. This provides a vast range of tastes, textures and presentations. The portion sizes are adequate for 2 sharing, and therefore a selection of 3 or 4 or even 5 appetizers gives you a complete meal and also shows the great expertise of the kitchen."
    Dined on 3/5/2014
  • "We finished our weekend in New Orleans with a Sunday Brunch here. The food was fabulous and carried us throughout a day of travel. The service was excellent and the waiter was extremely knowledgeable about our selections and the preparations. I would highly recommend this uptown getaway.."

  • "The crab beignets are the most amazing thing I have ever tasted!! My very not at all adventurous husband loved the turtle bolognese and the carrot cake was delicious too! This is a must-eat place in New Orleans for sure!!"
