Diner Reviews
  • "...even though it's downtown. Menu is inventive and the kitchen delivers on the menu's promise. Service is observant without being fussy. If you want 'serious' French, they're up to that but their preference is clearly to be approachable and friendly."

  • "Impressive selection of menu choices and wonderful presentation keep us coming back to La Parissienne. On this visit we tried the quail and the salmon crepe; both portions were so generous that - even after sharing with each other - we came away with a 'to-go' box and were too full to try dessert. The owner always makes a point to check in with each table, but is not overbearing. This little gem is well worth the visit to downtown!!"

  • "We tried the bistro for the first time as a casual restaurant before going to the opera. It was very fun -- good food (we didn't have time to try much but order orders were excellent.) The service was especially good - professional but relaxed and friendly waiter who was careful to meet the timeframes we needed. Manager game us a warm welcome; ambience is light, modern, and a nice bistro feel."

  • "We a business dinner at this nice bistro on a Thursday evening. Hardly any crowd and a very nice view of downtown at Canal & 12th. The staff was knowledgeable and friendly and very efficient. The food was excellent (I had the Barramundi, others had Atlantic Salmon and a filet). We all had desert (Crème Brulee, Chocolate Mousse) and they were also very good. The chef came out to thank us. A very nice evening and we made an excellent impression on our guests. I would highly recommend this restaurant. Word of caution: the parking deck next door closes at 7 PM."

  • "Wonderful!!!! We were a party of five ladies and we would not have wanted a thing to be different. Terrific sauces, crabcake is pure crabmeat, the salmon was cooked and seasoned perfectly, the bread is excellent, all served in an elegant, yet relaxed atmosphere... The owner is charming and welcoming and sat and chatted with us, the chef came out to check on us,... What a wonderful evening. Oh, and the desserts!!! You MUST eat here."

  • "My wife and I went for Valentine's Day Dinner. The restaurant was very nice and the manager was very friendly. Once we were seated the service was not the best as the waitress seemed a little uninterested in being there. The food was good. The escargot was very good. The entrees were above average as well. I had the duck and my wife had the filet. Both were cooked well and flavorful. I added on the Foie Gras with my entree but never received it. When I pointed out that the foie gras was never served but I was still charged for it the waitress never apologized for forgetting it. She did refund the money right away. All in all, it was a nice dinner but probably won't return for dinner."

  • "This place is wonderful. The owner/chef called me the day before to confirm our reservation. Told me where to park & parking would be free/on them. Free is always Good! The owner even paid a visit to our table and asked how things were going. Our waiter was Eli (messenger from God) was exceptional. My wife had the salmon & I had the duck breast. Very good choices. I wish I would have chosen the salmon. However, we usually get different meals to romantically share with one another. Yes we would do this place again. The staff were ALL very courteous from the moment we walked in until we made our departure for the "Cinderella" Play @ Centerstage formerly Carpenter Theatre. Thanks again La Parisienne Bistro and Café."

  • "initial service was a bit slow. we sat a while before waitress came to see if there were questions about the menu for Valentine's weekend. She did not know the wine selection, but had the owner(?) come over to make a recommendation. He was spot on & a very pleasant. All in all was a great evening. I think the service issue early on was a fluke. We plan to go back to experience the full menu."

  • "I had been several times for lunch, which is always delicious. The dinner menu is even more varied, with choices ranging from light fare to substantial entrees. It is easy to overlook this place as a dinner option because of its location, but there is plenty of free parking in the evening. And it felt surprisingly intimate at night. The staff is always so friendly and accommodating."

  • "Authentic French cuisine with a fantastic wine list. The owner even came to offer some new wine selections that just arrived and were not on the list. The waitstaff was friendly and helpful and humorous."

  • "Our previous visit was on New Year's Eve and they had a special menu for that night so I'm not sure how long they have had their present menu but it is different from the summer, fall menu. All of it is still delicious! Our party of four had a variety of dishes: Salmon, quail, duck and veal and we all agreed that everything was delicious. As good as the entrees are, save room for dessert - or you'll be sorry!"

  • "I ate here on 1/11/2014 before going to the former Carpenter Center now CenterStage. I was able to park in the permit lot across the street as it was on a Saturday evening and offices were closed. I expect parking will be an issue during the week but perhaps not so bad after 6PM. Our waiter was very friendly and accomodating to us. He suggested a better wine pairing and he was spot on! We ordered the Fromage appetizer which comprised of gruyere and brie. We ordered the Vegetarian Slate and Crab Cake and Belgian Frites(French Fries) for our main dishes. We were so full and satisfied! I sat with my back to the window so I couldn't enjoy the street view. The service was very good and the food super yummy! Highly recommended!"

  • "We went for NYE dinner...this was our first trip to the restaurant. For the occasion, there was a prix fixe menu that had several delicious sounding options for appetizer, entree and dessert. Prior to our order, there was an amuse bouche which was spectacular! It was HUGE - 4 items! Everything was delicious and completely set the stage for the remainder of our meal. Forget the old stereotype about French food being ridiculously small portions...au contraire! There was ample food. It was all wonderful. Our waitress, Shannon, was great and the manager, Ali, was extremely personable. We enjoyed our conversations with each of them. This restaurant is a hidden gem! We will be back!"

  • "We have enjoyed the crepes here very much. This is the first time we went for the dinner. We got the salmon and the duck dinner. Each was cooked to perfection with a wonderful set of subtle flavors in the added sauces. Exquisite!"

  • "we had escargo, lobster bisque, the duck, and beef stew. We could not believe what we were eating was duck. The lobster bisque was also amazing. Everything was delicious. We got a crepe as well, not the nutella and banana crepe, but a berry one, and even though I was beyond full, I finished the whole thing."

  • "The night we went was special for the bistro. They had a salsa dance class and session. They were also understaffed that night. On a more normal night the service and noise level would be might nicer. The food was excellent and true to my expectations of French cuisine."

  • "Wonderful food. Our party of 5 ordered different entrees and at the first mouthful all you could hear from each of us was MMMMM! We ate early on a Friday night and so it was relatively quiet. Later there were salsa lessons and a dj so the noise might amp up a bit. Restaurant is also open for breakfast and lunch. Want to try both!"

  • "This was our fourth trip to La Parisienne, and it never fails to provide an exceptional meal. My wife is a Francophile, and she loves the dishes at this restaurant. We went with another couple, and everyone left satisfied with the quality of food and attentive service. We will return!"

  • "Servers spent a lot of time talking to each other, less attentive to customers. Several items seemedl bland - frozen and reheated. Ambiance is nice, but Can Can is better food for the price."

  • "My husband and I had a very specific budget of what we could spend for our anniversary dinner, so I looked at several nice restaurants downtown to determine what would be best. I chose La Parisienne based on the menu on their website. Unfortunately, when we arrived, the menu we were given did not contain the same food and was far pricier. It wasn't impossible, but we both ordered crepes only in order to stay under budget. The food was tasty, the service was excellent, and we loved the ambience. However, I think this restaurant is doing their potential customers a disservice when their online menu and the menu they play on their screen outside the door is different than what they actually offer inside."

  • "La Parisienne experience is like traveling to Paris without the hassle of flying! I had been there for lunch many times, but, had not had dinner there since it opened last year. WOW, the savory dinner crepes were delicious and filling! I had the shrimp crepe with finely-chopped vegetables in a light and tasty cream sauce. My dinner partner had the crepe special which was so good he ate it before I had a chance to try it! Oh yes, the crusty french bread with honey-butter was also delicious. Next time, we will try to leave room to try the desserts. The service was excellent and there should be a sign on the door, "On-parle francais ici" (French spoken here). Definitely will return for dinner."

  • "By far, one of the best in richmond. Greeted by the owner, who is French, personable, and honestly welcoming. Had excellent duck and osso buco. One our favorite restaurants."

  • "We took a break from Folk Festival food and ate dinner Saturday night at La Parisienne. The food and service were excellent. The wine list, while small, has a number of good choices at fair prices."

  • "It was a lovely evening for dining outside so with Salsa dancing starting soon inside, we opted for a table outside. Preferring some privacy, we were stuck in the middle of everyone even though better tables were available. The special pork chop that evening was the way to go, better priced, and much better prepared than my crab cake and filet. I was less than impressed with my meal. Service was just ok, as we told repeatedly they got slammed with a big table. Whatever ... don't forget the tables of two who came for an intimate dinner hoping for good food and good service just like the big table. The Dessert Crepe was a messy slop of syrupy berries. The owner was personable. We'll try again another night and hope for a better experience."
