A word from La Notte Cafe
La Notte Cafe, located in Berwyn, is a real treasure! This new bistro, open in May 2006, is the creation of Giovanni Matteo Mancini; it successfully combines outstanding cuisine in an elegant yet family friendly atmosphere. Giovanni is a restaurateur with experience that spans from his native city of Bari to Phoenix, and now in Berwyn. Delightfully decorated with pale coral walls and festive artwork, this corner cafe is large enough for a crowd, yet intimate enough for
festive celebrations. The staff is outstanding, friendly and unbelievably attentive. Most of their dishes are handmade ---their pastas and desserts are made by hand, and their entrees feature old family recipes. You won't be disappointed by the cuisine at La Notte.

  • "Not only is the food outstanding the service is outstanding. The fact that I have only been her once before a year ago Giovanni the owner remember who I was. He kept checking on us to make sure that everything was up to our standards. It was not only up to our standards it surpassed them. Well Done to Giovanni and the rest of the La Nollte Cafe family and staff."

  • "I celebrated my birthday at La Notte, and I had an excellent meal (Risotto del Mare) along with a glass of wine (malbec), a dessert (chocolate mousse with strawberries), and a glass of port. The food was excellent, and the service was outstanding. In addition to the hostess, I had the proper level of attention from my server, the bus staff, and the owner, Giovanni, who pitched in as well. I sat outside, and the only "issue", which is not an issue at all, is that the table covers were a little tattered. To be honest, it did not bother me, but as an establishment that is properly "fine dining", I would have thought that the outside would have been maintained as well as the inside. I'll still dine outside, so this is a minor complaint."

  • "This is an interesting restaurant for Berwyn. Has been around for quite awhile and has much better than average Italian food. Lots of always fresh seafood and excellent sauces to with the seafood and pastas. It is pretty pricey and the owner is really good at up selling dishes but he is also very warm and charming so really don't object. Very busy on weekends and has a great outdoor seating wrap around porch that is always crowded on a nice evening. Glad to it is around and always enjoy it."

  • "The food is all made to order. So while it's fresh and very good, it means it's exceptionally slow. From the time we sat down to the time food arrived, it was over an hour. And we ordered straight from the menu, nothing complicated. It was a nice night and we were able to sit outside, but as the restaurant is right next to the train tracks in Berwyn, there were three Metra trains and two very long freight trains during the time we were there and it gets loud. We had a baby with us and the restaurant staff was very accommodating."

  • "We were attending a Tributosaurus show at WIRE in Berwyn and found La Notte Cafe on Open Table. It was an excellent find. The owner Giovanni was warm and welcoming and his son who waited our table was so interesting to visit with and attentive to our needs. The food - WOW - delizioso! Fresh, authentic Italian dishes from Grandma's kitchen. Will definitely return when we go to the next Tributosaurus show."

  • "After finding this place out several years ago during block party event we have gone every time for our anniversary or special occasions. Brought friends and they have enjoyed the place as well. An excellent selection of wines. Not a lot of appetizers to choose which is fine by me as well as specials which are always good and a selection of plates that is not overwhelming menu wise. Great ambiance and incredibly a kid-friendly place. I highly recommend any Berwyn-ite to come, visit and enjoy some Italian dining."

  • "My mother said the calarmari was the best she has ever had in her life and she is 94 years old and has had lots of calamari!!!! We enjoyed two of the veal dishes that were delicious and the vodka sauce on the pasta can not be beat. Service is excellent and personal."

  • "One of the best Italian restaurants I have ever ate at. As an Italian I love trying new places but I will have to say this is the best place by far, not only great food but great hospitality, everything that comes out of the kitchen is so fresh and good it is an experience you will never forget. I would recommend a dish but they are all excellent, but if I had to try the tilapia gio its outstanding. To sum it up grea,t food, great owner, great experience."

  • "This lace has outstanding regional Italian food. The owner is so gracious made us feel so at home , I felt I was in his personal dining room . The owner's son is also there on weekends , delightful. We had a wonderful time . Small , quaint, and quiet. Will go back . Have told several people about it since Saturday. Great patio , great for family with small children that love to see trains. I loved the place."

  • "Invited my family out to dinner as we have been here in the past. Some of the food was good, but my sisters dish, salmon with an inch thick of potatoe crust had zero flavor and the salmon was horrible. She didn't eat it. Appetizers were all good. The prices are a little to high for Berwyn."

  • "Sat night at 7:00. They were still using the abbreviated Valentine's Day menu which was very limited. My risotto del mare was short on the shrimp and scallions: two of each.($29) . Our order was lost for at least 40min. even thought there were only 6 tables ahead of us. Small room. Food seems to be of a high quality so I want to get back soon and see how the regular menu fares."

  • "The restaurant is nice/casual, and the food is great! I highly recommend this place for a great dinner, and any special time you may want really good food! Hidden in the Depot District in Berwyn, it is definitely a neighborhood gem that I would hope it attracts people who can appreciate the food and service that La Notte offers."

  • "Had a perfect Valentine's Day experience! A freight train made us and several other couples late for our reservation but Giovanni got everyone seated without much of a wait. We both ordered off the menu and got exactly what we wanted without problem or regrets. The service was friendly and attentive without being overbearing. Thank you!"

  • "We go to La Notte because the food is excellent and they are so accomodating to any dietary restrictions. It takes a while to get your main course as most things are made to order. We don't care as it provides an opportunity to relax, enjoy the conversation and have fine wine. It is well worth the wait. The owner and his son are friendly, proud of the restaurant and truly want you to enjoy your experience."

  • "We have lived in Riverside for 6 years and had never tried La Notte before. My wife and I absolutely loved it! She's 100% Italian and a great cook, so for her to be so pleased says alot. The food and service was exceptional - the owner (Giavonni) and his son (Francesca) were very engaging and accomodating. We plan to become regulars. I only wish we had discovered this gem when we moved here. Steve Z."

  • "How have we missed this restaurant for so many years (we are Oak Park-ers)? It was fantastic and charming and had the feel of a neighborhood gem from the minute we walked in. The service was incredibly attentive and friendly and my husband swears it was the best Italian he has had in years. They make a point of being flexible with the menu so everything can truly be made to order if you want to change up an ingredient or don't care for something, Also, they didn't rush us on a Sat nite and if we didn't have later plans we would have stayed for coffee and dessert. Just like grandmas, for sure. ."

  • "We were looking for a place to have New Year's Eve dinner with our son, age 7. I was happy to find that other families who have one/two children have also selected this restaurant. We listened to the Sinatra singer and people dancing as we enjoyed our delicious dinner. This is not our first time going to La Notte, as we live a few blocks away. However, I was glad to find a place we enjoy where we could spend a special night as a family. As it is family owned and operated they do make you feel like part of their family."

  • "Originally La Notte was recommended by my brother who raved about the food. My husband and I made reservations for New Year's eve and were not disappointment. We were tucked away in a little cozy nook and felt right at home. The food was excellent and the restaurant was accommodating when we had to bump up our reservation time. The portions were a good size and the price reasonable. There was a minor glitch in my husband's food order but overall it was a good experience and we would come back."

  • "This is a gem of a restaurant. The food was inventive, with quality ingredients, freshly prepared. There were many seafood and fish options; not the typical red-sauce and pasta offerings. This is a family operated restaurant and our server seemed to be both owner, chef and cheer-leader for the food. They were enthusiastic about modifications to the various dishes we ordered and everything...wine, salad..entree....was spot on."

  • "This restaurant is hidden in plane view, in a cute but perhaps not very well known or traveled area of Berwyn, IL. My wife and I had our first date here two years ago, and recently visited for our 1 year wedding anniversary. The managers and staff all treat you like family. The food is incredible, every time we've dined her both my wife and I have chosen something new and been extremely pleased with our meals. I highly recommend La Notte Cafe!"

  • "We have been going to La Notte since they first opened the reason we keep going back is the food is always awesome I was born and raised in Italy and La Notte is as close to the REAL Italian food that you will find anywhere in this country. Giovanni the chef/owner has never disappointed me. He is a REAL Italian chef learned his trade working in their family restaurant and using his family recipes has a guide comes up with some fabulous dishes. His oyster Rockefeller even people who have never had oysters before love them. Anyone I have taken there loves the place. If you are not sure what wine to drink with dinner let Giovanni pick it out for you, he always does for me and has never disappointed me."

  • "The food, service, ambience - everything was perfect. The owner is hands-on and nothing is prepared ahead of time so it's made to order and taste's amazing. Absolutely a find - and a 'must' for anyone looking for a great place to dine."

  • "The service was very good. While the food did take a while to be served, the explained ahead of time that nothing is pre-made, so it does take a little bit longer. With that, we knew what to expect. And it really didn't take that long. Food was VERY good."

  • "Our first time here was because of it's proximity to Hawthorne Race Track. What a wonderful surprise. The food was outstanding. My girlfriend got a lemoncella martini that was really good, the rest of us shared a bottle of wine. We had appetizers while our dinner was being prepared & the owner & waiter were both very friendly. It's a little bit of a distance for us to come regularly being from the south suburbs & Indiana but that being said, I can't wait to come back."

  • "There must have been a problem the night we were there because service was SLOW and watching those serving in the dining room you could see that things were not normal nor as they should be. The food was very good but it was clear that something was amiss. Hopefully this has been rectified as this place has wonderful food. The specials are creative and the menu has nice variety. Kudos to the bartender who was very kind as we waited 20 minutes for our table which "just needs to be reset." Hoping for a better experience next time."

  • "Giovanni welcomed us warmly on our first visit to the cafe. He explained that everything was freshly prepared when ordered. He recommended some specialties and also let us know that special requests would not be a problem. We ordered the salmon and the grilled whole Mediterranean bass, which Giovanni filleted table side. The meal was delicious."

  • "I Found this Neighborhood Gem via an email from Open Table. The name and menu as well as other information found on their website, (most specifically the video interview with the owner and his son) really made us want to seek this restaurant out. We asked our cousin to join us. Both my husband and his cousin were born and raised in Sicily, so authentic Italian cuisine is always a challenge for them, but La Notte hit it on the head. The owner was most definitely hands on all evening, and our evening was wonderful from start to finish. Giovanni suggested wines, and pairings and suggested different ways of preparation. We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner and are already planning our next visit. Thanks Open Table"
