A word from La Notte Cafe
La Notte Cafe, located in Berwyn, is a real treasure! This new bistro, open in May 2006, is the creation of Giovanni Matteo Mancini; it successfully combines outstanding cuisine in an elegant yet family friendly atmosphere. Giovanni is a restaurateur with experience that spans from his native city of Bari to Phoenix, and now in Berwyn. Delightfully decorated with pale coral walls and festive artwork, this corner cafe is large enough for a crowd, yet intimate enough for
festive celebrations. The staff is outstanding, friendly and unbelievably attentive. Most of their dishes are handmade ---their pastas and desserts are made by hand, and their entrees feature old family recipes. You won't be disappointed by the cuisine at La Notte.

  • "My mother said the calarmari was the best she has ever had in her life and she is 94 years old and has had lots of calamari!!!! We enjoyed two of the veal dishes that were delicious and the vodka sauce on the pasta can not be beat. Service is excellent and personal."

  • "This lace has outstanding regional Italian food. The owner is so gracious made us feel so at home , I felt I was in his personal dining room . The owner's son is also there on weekends , delightful. We had a wonderful time . Small , quaint, and quiet. Will go back . Have told several people about it since Saturday. Great patio , great for family with small children that love to see trains. I loved the place."

  • "One of the best Italian restaurants I have ever ate at. As an Italian I love trying new places but I will have to say this is the best place by far, not only great food but great hospitality, everything that comes out of the kitchen is so fresh and good it is an experience you will never forget. I would recommend a dish but they are all excellent, but if I had to try the tilapia gio its outstanding. To sum it up grea,t food, great owner, great experience."

  • "Invited my family out to dinner as we have been here in the past. Some of the food was good, but my sisters dish, salmon with an inch thick of potatoe crust had zero flavor and the salmon was horrible. She didn't eat it. Appetizers were all good. The prices are a little to high for Berwyn."

  • "Sat night at 7:00. They were still using the abbreviated Valentine's Day menu which was very limited. My risotto del mare was short on the shrimp and scallions: two of each.($29) . Our order was lost for at least 40min. even thought there were only 6 tables ahead of us. Small room. Food seems to be of a high quality so I want to get back soon and see how the regular menu fares."

  • "Had a perfect Valentine's Day experience! A freight train made us and several other couples late for our reservation but Giovanni got everyone seated without much of a wait. We both ordered off the menu and got exactly what we wanted without problem or regrets. The service was friendly and attentive without being overbearing. Thank you!"

  • "The restaurant is nice/casual, and the food is great! I highly recommend this place for a great dinner, and any special time you may want really good food! Hidden in the Depot District in Berwyn, it is definitely a neighborhood gem that I would hope it attracts people who can appreciate the food and service that La Notte offers."

  • "We go to La Notte because the food is excellent and they are so accomodating to any dietary restrictions. It takes a while to get your main course as most things are made to order. We don't care as it provides an opportunity to relax, enjoy the conversation and have fine wine. It is well worth the wait. The owner and his son are friendly, proud of the restaurant and truly want you to enjoy your experience."

  • "We have lived in Riverside for 6 years and had never tried La Notte before. My wife and I absolutely loved it! She's 100% Italian and a great cook, so for her to be so pleased says alot. The food and service was exceptional - the owner (Giavonni) and his son (Francesca) were very engaging and accomodating. We plan to become regulars. I only wish we had discovered this gem when we moved here. Steve Z."

  • "How have we missed this restaurant for so many years (we are Oak Park-ers)? It was fantastic and charming and had the feel of a neighborhood gem from the minute we walked in. The service was incredibly attentive and friendly and my husband swears it was the best Italian he has had in years. They make a point of being flexible with the menu so everything can truly be made to order if you want to change up an ingredient or don't care for something, Also, they didn't rush us on a Sat nite and if we didn't have later plans we would have stayed for coffee and dessert. Just like grandmas, for sure. ."

  • "Originally La Notte was recommended by my brother who raved about the food. My husband and I made reservations for New Year's eve and were not disappointment. We were tucked away in a little cozy nook and felt right at home. The food was excellent and the restaurant was accommodating when we had to bump up our reservation time. The portions were a good size and the price reasonable. There was a minor glitch in my husband's food order but overall it was a good experience and we would come back."

  • "I've never been to La Notte Cafe but I'm glad I ran into it on google! I went with 3 of my girlfriends and we all loved the food and the environment. Prices were not bad; only wish they didn't close so early. Overall we had a great experience and will definitely go back."

  • "We were looking for a place to have New Year's Eve dinner with our son, age 7. I was happy to find that other families who have one/two children have also selected this restaurant. We listened to the Sinatra singer and people dancing as we enjoyed our delicious dinner. This is not our first time going to La Notte, as we live a few blocks away. However, I was glad to find a place we enjoy where we could spend a special night as a family. As it is family owned and operated they do make you feel like part of their family."

  • "This is a gem of a restaurant. The food was inventive, with quality ingredients, freshly prepared. There were many seafood and fish options; not the typical red-sauce and pasta offerings. This is a family operated restaurant and our server seemed to be both owner, chef and cheer-leader for the food. They were enthusiastic about modifications to the various dishes we ordered and everything...wine, salad..entree....was spot on."

  • "This restaurant is hidden in plane view, in a cute but perhaps not very well known or traveled area of Berwyn, IL. My wife and I had our first date here two years ago, and recently visited for our 1 year wedding anniversary. The managers and staff all treat you like family. The food is incredible, every time we've dined her both my wife and I have chosen something new and been extremely pleased with our meals. I highly recommend La Notte Cafe!"

  • "We have been going to La Notte since they first opened the reason we keep going back is the food is always awesome I was born and raised in Italy and La Notte is as close to the REAL Italian food that you will find anywhere in this country. Giovanni the chef/owner has never disappointed me. He is a REAL Italian chef learned his trade working in their family restaurant and using his family recipes has a guide comes up with some fabulous dishes. His oyster Rockefeller even people who have never had oysters before love them. Anyone I have taken there loves the place. If you are not sure what wine to drink with dinner let Giovanni pick it out for you, he always does for me and has never disappointed me."

  • "The food, service, ambience - everything was perfect. The owner is hands-on and nothing is prepared ahead of time so it's made to order and taste's amazing. Absolutely a find - and a 'must' for anyone looking for a great place to dine."

  • "The service was very good. While the food did take a while to be served, the explained ahead of time that nothing is pre-made, so it does take a little bit longer. With that, we knew what to expect. And it really didn't take that long. Food was VERY good."

  • "Our first time here was because of it's proximity to Hawthorne Race Track. What a wonderful surprise. The food was outstanding. My girlfriend got a lemoncella martini that was really good, the rest of us shared a bottle of wine. We had appetizers while our dinner was being prepared & the owner & waiter were both very friendly. It's a little bit of a distance for us to come regularly being from the south suburbs & Indiana but that being said, I can't wait to come back."
