Diner Reviews
  • "We went with a group of six for dinner on a Saturday night. We were seated quickly in a large booth and felt we had the best spot in the house. The food was delicious and everyone had something they really enjoyed. Would definitely come back."

  • "The food was delicious from appetizer through entrees and dessert. I'd recommend it to anyone interested in really good Italian cuisine with many seafood-oriented options."

  • "Lamb chops, which I have had here often enough, as well the warmed duck salad made an excellent Spring Lunch. 4+ stars on the quality of their food. It's great not only to sit and enjoy ones own choices, but to watch others clearly enjoying their own choices."

  • "Marco was as always, a delight. The tastes developed in this restaurant are quite fantastic. One of my favorites and it sure helps that you can BYOB."

  • "Food and service were great. Would definitely go back. Only negative was seating. We were in the middle aisle of the restaurant and I felt like people passing by on each side were going to knock over our wine bottle or our food every time."

  • "Very upscale but unpretentious service.excellent presentation and flavors"

  • "My daughters and I returned to La Mezzaluna for their Risotto. We were NOT disappointed, it is always perfect. We also tried a couple of different appetizers this time: an eggplant rolatini and a crostini with sausage...again, both were fantastic. We really appreciate fresh ingredients, and it really shows in these Italian dishes. Our waiter always recognizes us as returning diners, and is warm and friendly. Another great family dinner out!"

  • "I always get a great meal, as well as great service, here. Today was no exception with the risotto special as a starter and the chicken formaggio. Excellent quality and value for money."

  • "La Mezzaluna was wonderful. Their specialty is risotto and they did not disappoint. Three of the four at our table had a risotto dish - the special of the night, a butternut squash and beef, the seafood and the four cheese. The fourth diner had the chicken special, stuffed with ricotta, rabe and shrimp. All were delicious. Prices are reasonable, it is a BYOB with a liquor store right next door. Would definitely go back."

  • "We had an ok dinner, with ok food and below average service. It took a while to see a waiter and then a long time to get our meals."

  • "Everything ordered was fresh, well made, and yummy. Service was friendly and on point. The decoration and ambiance leave much to be desired, though. Tables are very close together, no tablecloths, sterile beige walls. Not sure if we'll be back since this restaurant does not offer a totally great dining experience of good food and service and cozy atmosphere."

  • "The food is top-notch, and the place is perfect. The owner came over to my table, introduced himself and could not have been nicer. Our waitress too. I live in NYC, and eat out a lot, and I can confidently say this is one of the best restaurants I have ever been too."

  • "We decided to try La Mezzaluna one snowy winter night and were not disappointed . The food was expertly prepared and presented, service was excellent , and although the room is tight when filled , we had a great time . I've read all the prior reviews , and with the exception of the one self proclaimed "expert " who "goes to Italy all the time" , he must have eaten somewhere else and gotten confused . Anyone who knows anything about food would enjoy a meal at La Mezzaluna , and I'm sure if you try it you will come back again as we certainly will. Great to have it a BYOB too."

  • "I would have preferred a dimmer lighting. I thought it was a little bright, for a romantic dinner. The food and service was great-will definitely be going back!"

  • "I went to La Mezzaluna on Valentine's Day with my friend to treat ourselves. We had a 9pm reservation and were seated right when we arrived. The food was very good and my only complaint is that our main course took quite a bit of time to arrive. Luckily my friend loves to talk so it did not matter that it took some time for the food to arrive. Otherwise everything was great. The atmosphere was romantic and casual but upscale, if that makes any sense. The chef of the restaurant came out at one point and asked if we needed anything, which does not typically happen. I love this restaurant and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for some good food and nice atmosphere."

  • "I have been here a couple times before and loved it. I just went for valentines day and they redid the place. Now it looks plain and cheap. I had to pour my own wine twice from the bucket since the waiter was not very attentive. My date and I both got the same dish, filet and lobster. I was served my dates dish of medium and she received mine, medium rare, after the waiter asked which we ordered. He blamed this on the chef after it was brought to his attention. We also were not given butter to go with the lobster, but everyone else was. The place was very loud and our table was slanted. All the tables and chairs are very cheap. You do not get what you pay for here anymore. Luckily it is BYOB and the food is good, once you get the right dish"

  • "This is a good, reliable, well-located restaurant. Food is overall excellent and service is outstanding."

  • "I very much like the availability of options here, the location is great, the pricing is normal for the area and more people should dine here."

  • "From seafood, to poultry, to vegetarian, the options are delightful. Though the menu seems small, the portions are sizable and perfect for lunch. The wait staff were friendly, accommodating, and consistently refilled our water glasses. The ambiance is bright and festive, and the higher end of casual."

  • "Disappointing. Menu wasn't bad, but preparation fell short. Ambiance is odd. Light fixtures put off a poor quality light that affects the mood."

  • "Excellent service and a nice seat by the window. The only issue is that for 5 o'clock on a Friday night, I expected more than just my table plus 1 other. By the time we finished our meal(630) the crowd had grown to 3 additional tables. Due to the size of the establishment, it makes one feel a little uncomfortable with so few patrons visiting the restaurant. Hopefully, they can do more in regards to advertisement or promotions to pull more of a crowd in. If there was a larger crowd the evening would've been a little more lively."

  • "I come in from time to time because of the high quality of both the food and the service. Highly recommended."

  • "We always have a delicious meal; however, since they refurbished and removed the booths the room has become noisy. So it is no longer on the quiet romantic side. It does not keep us away, but just a heads up to future patrons. Thanks!"

  • "We were celebrating our 37 anniversary& chose La Mezzaluna expecting a romantic/quiet relaxing meal. We were very disappointed in the service& dining experience. We had a 6:00 reservation we were done by 6:45. The dinner was served to me while I was still eating appetizer. If they took the food back it would have been to sit under the heat lamp fish which would have dried out.The maitre'de was hovering at every table anxious to see which table would be vacant next. Then my husband had informed the restaurant upon making the reservation through Open Table that it was a special celebration and no mention was made of it when they brought the dessert which was supposed to be a chocolate souffle which was pre made and was a chocolate lava cake."

  • "We have enjoyed 2 recent wonderful dining experiences at this great restaurant and can't wait to go back. The cuisine is authentic Italian fare that is expertly prepared and beautifully presented. The wait staff possess an in-depth knowledge of their menu and are eager to explain how the food is prepared."

  • "Overall, a good spot but don't arrive too hungry. The service was extrordinarily slow. It took a good 20 minutes to even get a basket of bread. The restaurant is BYO, but there is a liquor store next door, if you forgot your favorite bottle. My overall rating would have been ****, but the service really brought it down."

  • "for the 2nd year in a row we dined here on New Year's eve. Our table was ready the minute we walked in. We were greeted warmly and seated promptly. As usual, everything on the menu and the evening's special's were outstanding. One appetizer was forgotten and apologies abounded. The owner is extremely attentive as is every other server."

  • "Originally we were going to go to the Grill or Camillo's, however we decided to try La Mezzaluna. Thank goodness we did! We had a wonderful New Year's celebration dinner. The food was delicious and service was terrific. My wife said her lamb chops reminded her of her Nana's from Sicily."

  • "My husband and I went early & were seated right away. Our server, a young girl, was outstanding. She met our every need and request. We started with the crab cake appetizer and it was delicious. My husband had the Veal Marsala, and he wasn't so happyThe veal was tough and he would have appreciated more of it. The sauce was fresh and homemade--no gravy type sauce. I wanted the jumbo shrimp and lobster sauce, but not the cod, so the chef put it over chicken instead. It was delicious and I appreciated the fact that he would honor a request on such a busy night. Overall, we enjoyed our evening, but I agree that the high cost of the meals is really not warranted. The food was good, but not wonderful. We'll go back, but we won't hurry."

  • "The food portions were large and the price is a good value for lunch. The dinner menu prices increase a lot from lunch and I can not image the portions are much more. The main issue is the food lacked much flavor. It was a below average Italian meal."

  • "We have been going to this restaurant for our family Christmas dinner for 6 years. The food has always been exceptional as well as the warm, friendly, efficient service. They remember us each year! It appears that they recently repainted and while it's nice, it's not as "warm" as it used to be. But don't let that stop you from experiencing this chef at the really terrific place to eat!"

  • "Not your typical Italian food, favor/portions are perfect. The owner/chief make it a point to speak with everyone. Coming back with my girlfriends for sure."

  • "The food preparation and presentation are excellent. I recommend the lamb and the veal dishes. I have dined here several times and think this is one of the best Italian restaurants in Princeton. My only negative remark is the noise level that can easily be reduced with wall hangings and floor carpet."

  • "We were able to be seated an hour and a half before our reservations as my son was hungry and did not want to wait. Our waiter was attentive and responsive. Our dinners were delicious. One appetizer, Clams Casino was too dry. Had to put the sauce on it to give it moisture. The gelato was light and tasty. I would come back to this restaurant."

  • "i can't belive i have walked passed this restaurant all the time and never went in. My husband and I ate there a couple of weeks ago and everything was just perfect. Our waiter was friendly and professional, and accomodating, we wanted to try the risotto as an appetizer, rather than a full entree. Food was wonderful, portions very generous, we weren't rushed. and the risotto was so delicious we had to go back this weekend. This time we brought our daughters. Our waiter recognized us, which was very nice. And again, everything was just perfect. This is a small BYO wine that has an obvious talent for really good food and considers service important. this is my new favorite restaurant in Princeton."

  • "This place is a rare find in Princeton where not so many good restaurants around. All the foods they serve are excellent! I want to keep it a secret so that I can go there anytime without a crowd. Desserts are among others, the best. You should order fruits flambé, cooked at your own table. The waiter there is perfect!! Thank you for your good job."
