  • "We have been to all the best restaurants in Honolulu and would bet that there isn't one in all Hawaii that is better than La Mer.....everything was perfect...the food, the service and the ambience....everything was first class! Can't wait to go again."

  • "No doubt, it is expensive, and a bit stuffy, but for a special occasion, it is fantastic. Dark wood, prints, and a colonial atmosphere reign in this establishment. The service is top notch, cocktails are superb, and they have a great list of wines by the glass. The open windows and view add to the charm, as does the personal service and feeling that once you're seated, you are settled in for a nice, long evening. For some reason, whenever I have been there, the appetizers and first courses outshone the main course. Maybe next time I will just order a number of firsts and skip the main? Vanilla soufflé for dessert was spot on!"

  • "Liked dessert the best. Not my kind of food. Overpriced"

  • "My wife and I went to La Mer for our anniversary and we were very impressed with the food, service, and the overall ambience of the restaurant. We love that La Mer is the last restaurant in Waikiki that requires a jacket. It makes the dining experience even more special for us. We'd recommend the seven course tasting menu with or without the wine pairing (my wife doesn't drink much, so she went without). Definitely somewhere we'd highly recommend for a special occasion."

  • "I had the pleasure of dining recently at La Mer and can honestly report that it was one of the best dining experiences that I have ever had. From the moment of our arrival to our departure we were treated with the most wonderful service, including culinary delights and an ambience beyond expectation. The service - impeccable, food presentation extraordinary, ambiance - enchanting. This is the place for any special occasion with tables overlooking the water and a wait staff that will attend to your every request. I have dined in 5 star establishments in Paris, Florence, Venice, New York, Miami, Los Angeles to name a few and this restaurant will always hold a special place for me for exquisite fine dining. I look forward to returning someday."

  • "Truly and experience, well timed service, attentive staff, accommodating chef. Highly recommended, and be sure to get the soufflé!"

  • "La Mer is perhaps one of the most exquisite dining establishment I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing. The service was more than outstanding and the cuisine unforgettable. It truly was the capstone experience of my first visit to Hawaii."

  • "Beautiful room especially tables overlooking ocean. Hawaiian luxury dining at its best. Outstanding service."

  • "I was treated like a king! The food was unique, but what sells me on a place is whether or not the establishment makes me feel like I matter. Boy did they ever. A bit pricey, but I felt like I was a long time friend/guest that had just come back from a long trip and I was being welcomed home. I will return this restaurant. Guaranteed."

  • "A true, fine dining experience. Three of us had the three choice menu. We all had different choices to "taste" a variety of dishes. Morels was our favorite appetizer, all entrees were excellent (beef, fish, and lamb). Wine list had an extensive range of choices to fit any price point. An extraordinary birthday dinner!"

  • "Dress code doesn't quite fit with the usual Hawaiian environment. Otherwise, food/service/view were great. Only criticism with the food would be that the tasting menu featured two course with foie gras, which was a little bit too rich and over the top."
    Dined on 2/15/2014
  • "Food was excellent and the wine list wide and varied, service is slow and dinner lasted nearly 3 hours, long spaces between course with a lot of bread rolls offered to fill the time. However the food made up for the wait, looking out to sea was a nice bonus.. The time between course was over 1/2 an hour and the difficulty in "slipping out" if one wanted to smoke made these long delays a bit uncomfortable for the smokers. Also lack of vegatarian options was noted. Food absolutly lovely, front of house staff solicitous if a little superior."

  • "La Mer never disappoints me and from the start to the end of the dinner the services and food always keep us going back to this great place."

  • "From the greeting and welcome, seating, service, food and wine selection, it sets the standard. Another grand evening of dining."

  • "Before I indulge you on the wonderful experience that is La Mer, I'd first like to address their dress code. Guys, suck it up and put on a nice sports coat or diner jacket. You don't have to wear a dress shirt and tie, but do wear nice shoes. Do it for yourself and for your date. And ladies--keep it classy. They offer special menus for holidays but their regular dinner menu is just as well. the menu is broken down into three choices: "chef's choice", "3-course", and the "four course". You can mix and match with the four and three course--recommended if you're not sure what you will like. Do ask the sommelier to pair your wines. It's worth it. You will many parting gifts before you leave. And if you're celebrating something--tell them!"

  • "We don't live in Hawaii any more, but we come back for very special occasions--like this trip for my wife's 50th birthday. We always celebrate at La Mer, which I think is the most elegant restaurant in Hawaii. Open air venue with ocean and Diamond Head views. We got there just in time for a perfect tropical sunset. World class cuisine with a newly revamped menu. Top-notch service that I would rank up with places like Per Se in NYC, including an excellent sommelier. The only restaurant that I know of in Hawaii that requires a jacket for gentlemen."

  • "We celebrated an early Valentine's Day at La Mer at the Halekulani in Waikiki, and it was unbelievably wonderful. The delightful tastes of the sauces and entrees, each course, the presentation, the ambiance, and the excellent service from everyone was beyond our expectation. We especially appreciated our personal server, Alvin Barayuga. He was warm, yet very professional. I look forward to our next visit to La Mer."

  • "The best restaurant on Oahu and the best restaurant service in Hawaii."

  • "This was our first visit, but definitely not our last one. We wanted to spread out celebrating Valentine's Day over the month of February and picked out several restaurants recently listed as Honolulu's most romantic restaurants. The service and attention was simply outstanding, the food was memorable and we were given a very nice table with a great ocean view. We asked for help with pairing our wine and were plased with the selections. Some were not choices we would have thought of, but turned out very well suited. And the wine selections recommended were not the most expensive. Overall, we had a wonderful time and La Mer was a great start to our Valentine Celebration month!"

  • "Last night in Hawaii and between flights, we took advantage of a long connection and had another dinner in this wonderful restaurant. It did not disappoint. La Mer's location is beyond compare and for anyone looking for a quiet and romantic dinner in Honolulu, we cannot recommend it more highly."

  • "We visited LeMer for my husband's birthday, and it was excellent. Service was unsurpassed--not stuffy. We both had fish on the price fixe 3-course menu, and it was beautifully prepared. One of the wait staff explained every course, which was good, because the menu description wasn't always accurate. They brought a beautiful chocolate opera cake for his birthday, after dessert. Beverage prices are high, but I guess we are paying for all that ambiance and good service."

  • "Le Mer has been written about in detail so I won't rehash it here. However, I can say, without reservation, that this was one of the top dining experiences of my life. My wife and I chose to build a four course dinner with the wine parings of the sommelier. Nothing short of amazing. In addition, the view from the second floor of the Halekulani over the ocean is breathtaking. Worthy of any and all praise."

  • "The service was impeccable, the food was art...it was all amazing. My husband and I loved every dish. The textures, colors, flavors were all so well coordinated. We could tell that the food was carefully placed on each plate with precision. The ambiance was lovely...second floor, open air, sitting right next to the beach. Just gorgeous!! We highly recommend La Mer for special occasions."

  • "La met is rated top restaurant in Hawaii and for a very good reason. My wife and I celebrated our second anniversary at la Mer and we had one of the experience in dinning ever. We were treated like royalty from the moment we walked in. We had to wait for a table by the water for few min and that was ok. Hanrry the bartender fixed us with few specialty drinks. Having the fixed manue made our chices selection easier. My wife and I had the 4 chice course meal. We both had the lobster and the filet I started my meal with the lobster/scallops ravioli( out of this world!!! My wife with scallop carpatio. Our service was truly top notch. Decently will visit back on our next trip to HAwaii."

  • "Okay - if I hadn't eaten at another French restaurant the night after La Mer, I would have thought it was terrific. I made a comment to the waiter that my duck was tough and chewy however I was told that duck can sometimes be that way. I've made duck, and it was never that tough. I had duck the next night at Michel's and it was terrific! Nothing tough about it. So, while La Mer had superior vanilla souffle and their sauces were fantastic and it's location is outstanding, if I could only go to one, it would be Michel's, just for the food."

  • "Always a pleasure. We make sure to visit at least once a year for either a special occasion or just because. The cuisine is amazing and amplified by the outstanding customer service. It is no surprise why La Mer continues to earn it's 5 Diamond status."

  • "Lovely stylish decor with great outlook. Staff very professional, attentive and welcoming. Food is ambitious and a dedication to trying to source top quality ingredients is evident. Menu whilst not cheap represented sound value for the meal presented. Setting and service were outstanding. Matching wines were very innovative and for the most part worked very well and fairly priced. We had lovely table looking over terrace and all in all had a really great evening. If you want a, cost not a consideration, Very Special Evening this venue can be highly recommended. If could, would possibly increase to 4.5 stars"

  • "We had an outstanding dining experience at the elegant, classy La Mer in Honolulu. The presentation of each dish was stunning! A varied menu was offered featuring seafood , steak, lamb. The wine list is extremely sophisticated, with a tremendous French presence."

  • "La Mer is the ultimate in fine dining. A beautiful restaurant with outstanding service/attention and an awesome ocean front view of Waikiki Beach and Diamond Head. The wine list is extensive and impressive for any wine connoisseur's taste. The menu consist of 7, 4 or 3 course dinners. The food is beautifully presented and delicious but the portions are rather small; however, the overall dining experience is one you and your guest will cherish. La Mer is fine dining at its best."

  • "Wife and I had a very romantic dinner at La Mer celebrating our honeymoon. Cocktails through dessert were outstanding. We enjoyed the chefs tasting with wine pairing. Each course was perfectly prepared, presented and paired! Get their early for the sunset open wall tables which offer full ocean view, sound and smell. Dinner was very pricey - possibly the most expensive in Waikiki but you do get what you pay for. For the price, leis should be complimentary especially for women and doubly especially if you are staying at the hotel."
