A word from La Masseria
La Masseria Restaurant is inspired from ancient fortified farmhouses that in the Puglia Region of Italy are called “Masseria”. Executive Chef/Co-Owner, Pino Coladonato, grew up on a Farm in Puglia. He was forced to eat whatever was available but soon was tired of bean puree and decided to take matters into his own hands, creating new ways to use the same few ingredients. Now, with limitless ingredients to choose from, fava beans, chickpeas and lentils are still a core element in many of his entrees. Interior Designer Libby Langdon has created a warm, inviting dining atmosphere. Rustic and relaxed, with plenty of old world charm. Oversize iron sconces custom made from antique wrought iron gates punctuate the walls, and artful displays of antique farm tools mixed with various authentic Italian photographs all add to the farmhouse appeal. The 250-bottle wine list encompasses all regions of Italy with few of the best American and the rest of the world.

This was our second time dining at La Masseria, both of which were pre-theatre lunches at one of the 48th Street theatres. We originally chose La Masseria for the convenient location, but each time have been delighted with the food, service, ambiance and wine list. So glad we stumbled onto this neighborhood gem. We'll be back soon.

Lovely restaurant in close proximity to the theater district. The food is very good and the service is excellent. I ordered the linguini and clams, which was good. My friend ordered the salmon which he liked very much. Our appetizers were great, especially the fried zucchini. Overall, this restaurant is quite good and one of the better pre/post theater places to eat.

There is not a better place to dine before or after Theater. Start with the wait staff. Unbelievable, just doesn't get better. They are the best. Food again, Fantastic. The Stuffed Mozz is different everyday with a special combination of tastes rolled in. I have had almost everything on the menu and can say, I haven't disappointed with any of it.

However this pre theater day my friend and I were seated in two different tables which we discovered thru a text message @12:45! All worked out thanks to the waiter who promptly got our order and food was shortly on the way! Dessert was on the house...once again we will return!

Since we were going to the theater we decided to try La Masseria for lunch. We arrived at noon and were greeted by the lovely hostess who was pleasant, accomodating, and very Italian. Our waiter immediately came to ask what we wanted to drink. Breadsticks, bread and some delicious lentils were served as we looked over the menu. Lunch was delightful. We shared an appetizer, had those delicious fried zucchini { absolutely divine} and an entree of sea bass. To top off our lunch we had cappucino. All in one hour so off to the theater we went. Che Bello!!!

....this was great way to celebrate my man running the NYC Marathon. It is a crowded space, and if we had one issue, it was that a waiter kept bumping into my man's shoulders. It was a tight seating arrangement, but this happened continually. We enjoyed the atmosphere, and otherwise the staff and food was marvelous.

We had a very nice dinner here with friends, specifically scheduled to avoir the pre-theater rush. Food and service were excellent - my osso buco and my husband's rabbit were really quite good. The fried zucchini appetizer is terrific, but be aware that it's a huge portion! Very impressive wine list, particulalrly if you like Italian wines, as we do. The only discordant note was that after dinner, as we were finishing our conversation, the maitre d' asked us to move to accommodate a large party. In another minute or two we would have been gone anyway. It's one of the things that fine New York restaurants do that you never encounter at fine restaurants elsewhere.

Third time back over the past three years. Lovely, warm, inviting inside with intimate al fresco dining as well. Superb veal with portobello mushrooms topped with truffle oil, mussels to die for and creme bruleé, cheesecake and fresh fruit with sorbet finished a truly memorable dining experience. Our waiters were from Sicily and Naples which rounded out a perfect dining experience in the stellar Italian restaurant. In the theater district but not the commercial "get you in shove you out" atmosphere one finds in many of them. A real gem!

What started out as a great experience slowly deteriorated into a costly mistake. Once our table was cleared of the appetizer course, that was the last we were to see of the wait staff for a full 35 minutes. As the clock ticked closer toward the start time of our Broadway matinee, every other table in our dining room was served their appetizer course and main course as we sat waiting. Finally, our waiter noticed we were still waiting and approached us to say the kitchen had been busy and we would get our food "soon". When the food came, the clams on the clams and linguine were dried out; food had to be wrapped to go since we had a show to catch. Unacceptable to the tune of $178.00+tip for 3!

Had a wonderful experience, foor was outstanding and waiter was very polite and helpful. My brother and I went before a matinee of mama mia, and it really added to how great the day was. We split imported buffalo mozzarella with tomatoes basil and speck. It was delicious and they split the dish for us and it was more than enough for 2 people. I ordered a rigatoni special with a gargonzola cream sauce and dry aged beef, and my brother ordered gnocchi. Both dishes were fresh and delicious. Highly recomend this theater district gem for authentic italian food, good wine, and lovely ambiance.
