A word from La Masseria
La Masseria Restaurant is inspired from ancient fortified farmhouses that in the Puglia Region of Italy are called “Masseria”. Executive Chef/Co-Owner, Pino Coladonato, grew up on a Farm in Puglia. He was forced to eat whatever was available but soon was tired of bean puree and decided to take matters into his own hands, creating new ways to use the same few ingredients. Now, with limitless ingredients to choose from, fava beans, chickpeas and lentils are still a core element in many of his entrees. Interior Designer Libby Langdon has created a warm, inviting dining atmosphere. Rustic and relaxed, with plenty of old world charm. Oversized iron sconces custom made from antique wrought iron gates punctuate the walls, and artful displays of antique farm tools mixed with various authentic Italian photographs all add to the farmhouse appeal. The 250-bottle wine list encompasses all regions of Italy with few of the best American and the rest of the world.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "Pasta was great - calamari appetizer was rubbery, oily and bland"

  • "Our first time at this beautiful restaurant…selected it for after theater…perfect choice. It was restaurant week in NYC….found the RW menu limiting so we ordered from the regular menu. The food was excellent! I ordered salmon and my doing partners ordered various pastas and we all thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience. The restaurant is large but beautiful….cozy ambiance with stucco walls, high ceilings, nice mood. There was a large outside doing area if that is your preference….we found the interior more inviting for this particular evening. We would definitely return to this wonderful westside restaurant."

  • "This is a really good, reliable place to eat - pre-theater, especially - with wonderful, friendly servers who really make you feel at home. And the current Restaurant Week lunch menu offers great value and delicious food. Definitely worth a visit."

  • "Our small group of seven women had never been to La Masseria before. But we immediately felt comfortable in the lovely atmosphere. Service was gracious and the food was delicious. All but one of us had the ORATA DEL MEDITERRANEO (Mediterrean sea bream), and loved it. My daughter and I shared the TIRAMISU’ AL CAFFE`- which was wonderful. We had no trouble walking to the theater to make our play, so the location was perfect. All in all, a great choice for our annual Broadway bash!"

  • "The first time I visited La Masseria somebody choose and paid. I liked it so much on the first visit that I took my wife there this trip. Even having to pay my own way it was well worth the return visit. I'm putting La Masseria on my favorite list when we're in New York."

  • "Great food and located in the heart of theater district. We went after our show. Portions are generous. A bit too noisy for us--had trouble conversing"

  • "The restaurant has a great atmosphere but is very tight, with tables very close together and noisy when busy, but the food is fabulous. The gnocchi are the best I've had anywhere, including homemade. Our dinners were terrific, and the wine list is very good. We would definitely go again but might try to time it for when it's not so busy."

  • "Very pretty restaurant. Great service. Terrific fried zucchini appetizer. Perfect salmon. Fresh fish. Pasta was so-so. Salads we're lovely. Good wine list. Fabulous desserts. Good coffee. Right next door to major Broadway theaters and parking right there too."

  • "My wife and I have eaten at La Masseria a number of times and this restaurant will not disappoint your palate for authentic Italian food. After being seated early, if you can believe that, the wait staff was very attentive until the end. Prosciutto and Melon was not on the menu but they did accommodate us and it was fresh and delicious. The only thing that was disappointing was the fish special, branzino. When they brought the whole fish to the table after cooking it looked spectacular. When they took it back to the kitchen to debone I swear half of the fish disappeared. I could not believe how little fish I got on my plate from the fish they showed me. I hope it was just an isolated incident because overall it was a good experience."

  • "What a great restaurant find right across the street from The Longacre Theater. We were able to have a nice relaxing dinner and then go to the play. The food was excellent and the service was top notch. The staff was very pleasant also. This made a great memory for our NYC trip. The atmosphere is beautiful. Highly recommend and have the homemade pasta."

  • "Great attention to service. All the food was very good, we both cleaned every plate. They had no issues accommodating allergies. Can see it getting a little tight at peak time but was perfect for lunch before a matinee show."

  • "A friendly Italian spot with imaginative specials (pear/onion ravioli), La Masseria was just right for us after a play. We chose to sit outside on a warm night, also because a group was pretty noisy inside. Got to watch the crazy sidewalk scene. The staff is friendly and attentive; food is good. We'll go again when we're in NYC."

  • "The food is outstanding....very authentic Italian. ..we had a special appetizer which was the best mozzarella I've ever had. The veal was just like my mom made. Excellent cappuccino. ...The service this time was a little off....slow to take our drink orders but otherwise pretty attentive....location excellent. ..it's our go-to place when we are going to the theater"

  • "Had not been here for over 5 years. Although it seems to have lost a bit of its "charm", the quality of food and service is very good. two comments: 1- we were 2 people, and the check already included a 15% Gratuity in it (no being from NYC, I don't know if this is the norm, but beware just in case!!); 2- Made my reservation via OpenTable for 7:45PM because there were no earlier tables available; however we got there around 7:00pm and the place was practically empty, with only 3 other tables occupied. Not sure why it was showing no availabilty, and we got a table for 2 immediately."

  • "We had the most attentive waiter. He gave great suggestion of food and wine. The ambience was fantastic. We ate outside under the awning. There was a lovey cool breeze that just made things perfect. Everything we ordered was delicious and perfectly prepared."

  • "We generally go to La Masseria for lunch when seeing a show. This was the first time we went for dinner when it was nice enough to sit next to the open doors to the patio - it was lovely. The fried zucchini appetizer is always good, and we also had the mussels and burrata with sliced tomatoes, very nice. The pasta with fresh clams and the one with eggplant and smoked mozzerella were excellent, and my husband really enjoyed his branzino. We split a ricotta cheesecake for dessert - very creamy, a little more like NY stule but very tasty. This is our go-to place in the theater district. We've also eaten in the Rhode Island location!"

  • "I've been here for a Wednesday 5pm dinner with friends and 8pm on Saturday with husband. Both experiences were wonderful. The staff is phenomenal! Helpful, friendly, and very knowledgeable. Followed their suggestions both times and have no complaints. Lemon sole was melt in your mouth good and rabbit was tender and tasty. Wine suggestions were very, very good and reasonably priced, despite the extensive list of vintage Italian wines. Wholeheartedly recommend!"

  • "Took my parents to see Of mice and men and picked this place because it was across the street from Longacre theatre. I'm so glad we went here the waiter was so nice and explained the specials to my Dad who always ask a millon questions and then forgets what the answer a second later (poor waiter). The food was great I got the spinach salad and gnocchis, so good, the gnocchis were so light and the cheese sauce they were in was delicious and creamy. My parents loved their food too. A bit expensive but worth it for a special occasion."
