La Mar Cebicheria PeruanaLovely lunch! We had one of our best lunches ever!
The food was fresh and the desserts spectacular...especially, the Picarones!6/15/2013 12:00:00 AMDate Night at La MarI got a recommendation from a coworker and decided to check it out for a first date - I couldn't recommend it more. The ceviche is excellent and reasonably priced - two orders of that, with some wine and the complimentary fried plantain chips was all we needed for a lovely meal that won't weigh you down. Check this place out!6/15/2013 12:00:00 AMgreat atmosphereThe waiter was had was really helpful and had great knowledge of peruvian food. I highly recommend the ceviche. They're all beautifully executed.6/15/2013 12:00:00 AMLoved the Salmon fusion! TheLoved the Salmon fusion! The sauce is to die for and goes really nicely with the jasmine rice. Best pacific rim fusion dish I've ever had.6/14/2013 12:00:00 AMIt's a must! From the variety of cocktails, appetizers, main dishes and desserts, you cannot go wrong with La Mar. The food is so wonderful that when we visit The City for an extended weekend, we usually go twice. The ceviche mixto, octopus anticuchos, and sea bass are amazing. For drinks, the Maracuya Pisco is like a dessert on its own. My only recommendation is that they bring back the lemon meringue they used to have for dessert. I was told it was to move away from single serving desserts and to create those that can be shared. Whatever the reason, we don't need to share it, that's how awesome it was....I always got my own!6/14/2013 12:00:00 AMDon't Miss Happy Hour!We arrived 15 minutes early for our 6pm reservation (theater tickets) and ordered two rounds of drinks and an appetizer at Happy Hour prices. After paying our bar tab, we carried them to our table where we had a fabulous dinner with outstanding service.6/13/2013 12:00:00 AMOver-PricedThe "buzz" here is not only palpable but very audible!! And the view of the Bay is always stunning. But the prices (and measly amount of pisco in the pisco sours) are ridiculous! $300 got us (a party of 4), 3 pisco sours, 2 beers, 2 glasses of wine (should not have been more than ($80), 1 order of empanadas (4 pieces), 1 skewer of anticuchos de corazon and 1 of chicken, 1 chef's special (rice and seafood), 2 salads and 1 coffee. Great place when you want to show off your wallet or blow your bonus; otherwise, save your money and find one of the other SF restarants with just as wonderful Peruvian food (all 4 of us have lived in Lima, so we know the food scene there, too)6/13/2013 12:00:00 AMgreat seafoodgreat location. excellent service. we would definitely come back.6/10/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstanding gastronomic experienceI have had the opportunity to eat in your restaurant in Lima, this one in SF is every bit as comparable to it. Great job. A must stop every time I come to SF6/10/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat all around.Wonderful setting, great food and outstanding service. Cebiche dishes are out of this world. Wonderful selection of drinks. Our server was helpful and prompt. Excellent all the way around.6/10/2013 12:00:00 AMnice view good foodThe empanadas were very nice with the dipping sauce, and the skewer with the heart was especially tasty with the sauces. The dessert fritters were a bit heavy and disappointing. But otherwise nice food, nice setting, nice service.6/9/2013 12:00:00 AMFresh interesting Peruvian foodWe are visitors from overseas and was recommended this restaurant by a friend who used to live in San Francisco. We dined early and was greeted by an attentive and knowledgeable waiter who was able to recommend us some of the best dishes. The complimentary chips (mixture of kumara, potato and Banana chips) was absolutely delicious. So was the corn empanadas. I was not such a fan of the ceviche, althought it was definitely very fresh. Overall a great dining experience, and we will be back on our nex trip!6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMDifficult to categorizeThursday, early summer, 7:30pm. Packed, cavernous and noisy. Very limited outer/view seating on the waterside. Waiter was almost too attentive and got one of the starters wrong despite my having pointed to it. Food is wonderful, the cebiches stunning, overall a super time but not intimate. Opinions seem to be either very high or abysmal - wonder if the chaos puts people off. Patrons seemed oblivious so be prepared to cope. I'd definitely return.6/6/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat ceviche - mixed reviewService – Attentive but rushed. They brought our second course before we had finished with our first.
Location – wonderful view of the bay
Food – delicious plantain and sweet potato chips; fresh ceviche with perfect flavors and a superb presentation; disappointing arroz.
I would return for the ceviche and a pisco sour - perhaps happy hour is the best time to try this restaurant.6/4/2013 12:00:00 AMthe food is quite delicious!the food is quite delicious! small portions but every bite was a wonderful mixto of flavors.6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMI came here for the DAT lunchI came here for the DAT lunch deal. I think I would have rather picked out my food versus ordering from the prix fix menu because I would not have picked the octopus tartare. If a diner was familiar with cebiche and enjoyed the selection, it would have been a great place! I personally didn't like the cebiche that much, but I'm sure they have good quality food.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMColorful. comfortable restaurant.Colorful. comfortable restaurant. Great for meeting ferry friends. Freindly, attentive service5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMmy 2nd visit and i still love it.a great place to be when dining by the Ferry Building.5/27/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious food with a beautifulDelicious food with a beautiful view. The waitress wasn't very knowledgeable, but our table was visited frequently by the managers that knew the food well. There were a lot of food options.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious food in a great settingMyself and a colleague were visiting SF on a business trip and tried several restaurants in and around the Financial District and Embarcadero. We both agreed La Mar was far and away the best for food, service and scenery.
The Cebiche is AWESOME - very fresh and full of flavour. We ordered octopus and yellowtail skewers which had great presentation and tasted fantastic. Not being familiar to Peruvian cuisine I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this restaurant and also at how reasonable the prices were.
FYI it was quite busy - would advise booking a table. Although we turned up 30mins early and was still shown to a table within 5 mins of waiting.
If you are a foodie looking for good eats in San Francisco then La Mar is a must!5/22/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat brunch on a pefect dayGreat to be able to enjoy the wonderful weather and have a sumptuous repast.5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstanding dining experienceExceptionally presented food, great service, great wines, very tasty food... Real place for foodies!
Just the music was a bit louder than we would like to.
But overall, very memorable dining experience indeed.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMThe place to eat in San FranciscoThis is one of the best peruvian restaurants we have been to in the US. Their food creations are original and tasty. The service is great and the view unparallel. Must be added to everyone's list of places to eat in San Francisco. Of course, with such an outstanding reputation, chances are you will not get in without a reservation. We saw many people be turned away...5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing Food - Easily Top 5We booked La Mar as date night for my husband and me, perfect! Though the restaurant is primarily seafood and Peruvian, if you are neither, you will still love it! This is a "small plates to share place", which is a good thing because you will want to try everything. Every table is served with a cone of fried plantain and sweet potato chips, ... just to keep you busy before your food comes. We ordered a total of 5 plates, but our favorites were the Ceviche Barrio, amazing mixture of flavors, and the Caprese salad. Not only were the heirloom tomatoes full and juicy, and the burrata cheese was smooth and creamy, but the sauce was soooo good we wanted to lick the plate! Empanadas and Anticuchos were amazing too! Great wine too!5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMgreat food and locationLarge menu of vibrant, delicious Peruvian food. Fantastic atmosphere.5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMLove the view, love sittingLove the view, love sitting outside, and the menu has such great variety. A little something delicious for everyone!5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMGood Setting/Food/Service. Pricey. We sat outside and had a great view of the ferries and the Bay. The heaters and transparent plastic walls protected us from any effects of the wind. The interior of the restaurant, which we passed through to get to the outside seating, was well-lit with natural light, spacious, and had a good high-energy buzz going.
The food was good, but pricey enough that we would reserve visits for very special occasions or when friends willing to treat on an expense account made us an offer. (But, hey, it's San Francisco. Not much they can do about it.)
The table service was great: attentive and helpful without being intrusive. The bar was very busy at Happy Hour when we arrived, so it took 10-15 minutes to get drinks and appetizers there.5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMPerfect PeruvianI have been to La Mar for work lunches several times. Always fresh, vibrant, and satisfying. This dinner was better than even those experiences. We had the tuna and hamachi cebiches, the empanada sampler and arroz con pato. All excellent and worth recommending to all. Will go back again soon.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMCebiche is great...orderedCebiche is great...ordered the cebiche la mar. Not a fan of Jalei (spelling) , nikei pescado (seabass with mushrooms), or the crusted yellowtail or pannacotta however others in my party enjoyed it. Enjoyed the anticucho mixto and in comparison to the meat used in lomo saltado, the meat is more tender. Enjoy the fried plantains accompanied by the 2 sauces.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMCreative and wonderful seafood! In addition to the cebiches, the daily specials are fantastic. If you're not a seafood eater, the empanadas and the beef (lomo saltado) are really good.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMBirthday celebrationI took my fiancée for her birthday celebration. I had made a note when I made the reservation that it
Was my fiancées bday. When we came in they said
happy birthday to her. At the end they brought her a happy birthday
snack....kudos to the staff for all this!!5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat timeCouldn't ask for more on a beautiful sunny day in SF5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMHaving eaten in the GastonHaving eaten in the Gaston restaurants in Lima, Santiago and Caracas we were not disappointed! great attention to creative tasty cuisine. We are very particular about our dining and I must say that your restaurants have truly brightened the culinary scene in the Americas.
A delicious dinner and a great way to celebrate my daughter's birthday.
Drinks get a little pricey but the meal was quite reasonable!5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMGood place, waiter oops.Good place, but our waiter forgot us. We had a 2-hour lunch plus the aggravation. A lunch needs to be 1 1/2 hours with no aggravation. Otherwise we've always liked La Mar.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMVery enjoyable mealWe dined on a Friday night and the atmosphere was very energetic. The menu is large with lots of choices. We sampled a variety of things, and every single one was very good. I have also been with a group of 8 and they handled a group dinner well. It was both entertaining and delicious, with a great waterfront location.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMService Could Be BetterWhen we asked to be seated on the patio, we were told that it had been reserved for a private party. My friend said she was told the same thing when she asked to be seated on the patio the last time she was there for dinner. Not good. Our server wasn't very attentive. Personally, I hated all his tattos I was really annoyed when someone came and took away our dishes, placemats and silverware before we even ordered dessert! I knew it was crowded, but don't rush people out or they may not come back!5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMnovelInteresting to try Peruvian cuisine! Great seafood, and a carne entre for our non-fin cousin, which he raved about! Dellicate and falvourful sseasoning.5/1/2013 12:00:00 AMBest Peruvian food in the Bay Area! This was the BEST Peruvian food that I have ever had! From the cebiche, to the empanadas, to the ensaladas...everything was perfect. We also had 2 different cocktails...the pesco sour and the blood and sand...both excellent...full of flavor and not overpowering in any one taste. We got to sit outside in the heated tent, and it was perfect night to observe the bay. The food is pricey, but if you are going for a special occasion, or for a romantic meal, this is the place to go and enjoy all the tastes and scene.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMOverall, I thought it wasOverall, I thought it was great. A little bit on the pricy side but delicious. My wife is Peruvian so I thought we'd give this restaurant a shot as we'd heard good things. The service was great, the food was delicious, and we had a nice table outside, per my request. It was getting a little bit breezy, but it was still nice outside. It was a pleasant dining experience for our anniversary. Thank you!4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic pisco sours to start,Fantastic pisco sours to start, delicious and varied ceviche choices presented like works of art -- all rounded out by friendly and great service,4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic food and flavor NoisyFantastic food and flavor
Noisy bar
Quiet formal dining4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food. Our personal waiterGreat food. Our personal waiter was fantastic although some of the bar staff and others seemed put out to have to be there.4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was amazing as always! The food was amazing as always! This was the first time that I tried their cocktails and holy moly were they fantastical!4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Bay Front DiningSecond time here and it's still very good. Great setting on the water front and very good example of Peruvian food and drinks. We had beer and cocktails, so no idea on wine list, but the Pisco drinks are good. We had ceviche, empanadas, beef heart and a causas - all were great. I'm not usually a fan of ceviche, but I really enjoyed the 2 we ordered. I am a huge fan of empanadas and really enjoyed these, especially the corn filled one, which was sweetly delicious. Our server was great and the atmosphere, with the bay view, is perfect.4/15/2013 12:00:00 AMLove Love Love. Great food.Love Love Love. Great food. Great smiling staff. Great decor. Great atmosphere, great view.4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMWe absolutely love this restaurant! We absolutely love this restaurant! The Cebiche sampler is a must. It's so good, we continue to have it to avoid choosing one. Our favorite causas are the vegetarian and the chicken; just a cut above the rest. Even if you're there for the seafood, try the steak. Their wine list is wonderful, but try one of their sour drinks. They add whipped egg whites and the creamy consistency gives the drink that something extra.4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMYou Must Visit La Mar!La Mar is fantastic. The food is fresh and interesting. The service is friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. Ask for Brice Stanek. He's the best.4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMPeru! who knew?Wow, what a fun dinner! The menu is not familiar to most of us, but our amazing waiter led us patiently through. We asked him to pick an order for us and his selections were perfect. Be sure to get a pisco sour when you arrive!4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMInteresting but overpriced foodMostly great food, but so over-priced that it seems to draw a mainly tourist clientele.
tip to management Bring down the prices even 15-20% and maybe you'd get more repeat business from locales.4/9/2013 12:00:00 AMLunch here was great and theLunch here was great and the drinks weren't a bad choice either. Always a consistent meal and experience here for lunch.4/9/2013 12:00:00 AM
