Food is very good and the atmosphere is great for a romantic dinner, especially outside. However, the service was poor. Food is somehow spicy, and we asked for water a couple of times... it took them ages! We had to tell three different people in order to get a glass of water... also it was my wife's birthday, and we asked for two glasses of champagne when we arrived... they didn't ask which champagne, and charged us $24 per glass! Then they asked if we wanted a dessert, and we order one to share... after a few minutes they brought it together with another one as a birthday gift... If they were bringing a dessert as a gift, they should have brought it before asking if we wanted one... of course we left half of each.

The first time I went, the food was excellent as so was the service and ambience. The second time I went the service was good and the food was good, ambience was fun. This third time, the service was subpar and the portions of the food had changed to less ... and paying extra for a special ceviche and it was just ok. The am ambience was way too loud. I hope that if/when I go back, that it becomes better as each time I have have gone, it has declined in all aspects.

We went during Miami Spice and the menu was four courses of a tasting menu. We were stuffed by the end. The most impressive thing was the sauces. The tiradito criollo was fabulous. The sauce on the causa escabeche was amazing, and the coconut milk curried salmon was incredible. The desserts were spectacular. We had great service - our waiter was really attentive. The only slight negative was that it was pretty loud in there and by the end of the night it was becoming a bit of a strain to talk. But the food was so good, we would definitely return.

The noise level inside the restaurant is way too loud. It was impossible to carry a conversation comfortably in a table of four people. The restaurant actually has a DJ, but the noise and chatter was zoo loud that you could barely even hear the music either. If you order sparkling water, be cautious of the staff not pushing more water than you actually want, they keep serving sparkling water and bring additional bottles without you having requested them, nor do they check before if you would like an additional bottle.

Although we had a reservation, we still had to wait more than 30 minutes for our table, even when they had couple tables available. They said they made our reservation for outside dining (I was never asked online nor by phone) and because of the rain they had a delay moving people inside (it did not rain that day.. I live couple blocks from there). Once sitted, the waiter was very attentive and honest about the food having different timing due to our selection. In general the food was good, but we were not impressed. Probably will not go again.

Not sure why the food wasn't outstanding like my last visit. I ordered the exact same dishes. The mixed ceviche was a lot smaller. The fish with yucca mash was a little too overcooked. The lamb not as tender and the dessert just not as good. I looked forward to returning here more than any other resturant on my return to Miami, so I was quite disappointed. Maybe the chef was not in residence but back in his home town.

I was looking forward to visit this La Mar restaurant as I have been to a few others (Lima, Sao Paulo and Mexico). The location and ambiance are nice. The service was horrible and it was not packed. The sitting outside was very nice but seems like they do not have a plan B when it rains. I expected them to have more of a variety of Pisco Sours but the only interesting drink was the Guava Pisco sour. They should not forget that La Mar started as a Cevicheria ... and even there the service is a lot better than what I experienced. Maybe it is a Miami thing!

I was very satisfied with the service, they did not offer the best seating available but did accommodate for a change. As usual with expensive restaurants they were out of the $50 bottle of wine (Casa L'Apostolle). The Jalea Frita appetizer was good but nothing extraordinary - I will recommend the Plancha Anticuchera, it was delicious! All in all I was very satisfied and will come back in the future.

Very unfortunate the Chef Gaston Acurio would lend his name for this restaurant. Food is mediocre at best and seems previously prepared and microwaved. It seems to have an OK service but our waiter was terrible. Only thing going for this restaurant is its ambience and location, despite valet as only parking option. Won't last more than 3 years.
