Diner Reviews
  • "Food is not the best but good enough and the setting is gorgeous"
    Dined on 7/12/2014
  • "The food was excellent, really excellent! Service was one of the best. Friendly, but not overly. It was our anniversary and requestes something special, so they manged a table next to the windows (it was rainy so we couldn't go outside). Only thing that was a little off was the noise level, thought it was more private, but it is actually more laid back. Anyways, we went there because of the food. Looove ceviche and this was one of the best! Overall imwould, give a five, but that extra little noise makes it a 4.9"

  • "We ate here because it sounded interesting and was close to our hotel. I had the chicken skewers, which were delicious. The salad was also good, although slightly heavy on the dressing. The real star, of course, was the seafood. My partner has eaten ceviche in multiple countries in Latin America and this leche de tigre ceviche was hands down the best he's ever had. The ceviche bar served very large portions of fresh tuna, shrimp & calamari, in a glorious marinade. We sat outside on an elevated patio with gorgeous views of the water and downtown Miami - a dolphin even swam along the shore as we ate! The staff was very helpful and attentive without being pushy or overbearing like many at other Miami restaurants we've visited. A great night!"

  • "With the proliferation in the Miami dining scene of so many pseudo Peruvian restaurants and eateries 'La Mar' es really Miami's new gem. The restaurant that Mr. Acurio so exquisitely positioned in what used to be the place for the rapidly deteriorating 'Cafe Cymbal' at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Brickel, assumes fusion Peruvian food in its simplest form, and its principal requirement; freshness. You will never know if being so close to the water makes it (the food) smells as if brought from the boat minutes before being at your table. There is an army of servers to render an impecable service. Bravo Gaston! Once more."

  • "The grill exposed in the restaurant was not a very good idea, we had to move to another table cause of the smell, still ended up leaving the restaurant smelling like food The octopus was really gummy my bf couldn't eat it. For a high end restaurant we really expected more"
    Dined on 7/3/2014
  • "The food and sericve is amazing as usual, of course it's the Mandarin after all. The server was a young man that seemed to be to handsome for the job,lol ,but the food amazing !"

  • "Good food but way too expensive for such small portions. The tiraditos are really good! It's also too loud..had to scream to my friend so she could hear me all night!!! I like the place but it is too expensive for Peruvian food and portion size"

  • "Great food! Nice wine. A little bit noisy. Very good for a group of friends."

  • "I went to La Mar on a Saturday at 9pm. The restaurant was SO LOUD! We did about four courses, a dessert, and drinks. I ordered a hibiscus punch drink that was delivered in a beautifully decorated fancy glass, but filled with so much ice that the drink was just watered down - and not very good to begin with. The ceviche style is soupier than many may be used to, but it was still good. The menu is an eclectic mix of seafood and Japanese food - something for everyone.Only valet parking available. Check out the bar at Azul. After La Mar, we went upstairs to Azul for just a drink & ended up staying to have more drinks and enjoying a cheese plate, oysters, shrimp and dessert. Azul was so much better in terms of food, drinks, and ambience."

  • "We arrived and the scene was not that impressive for a Saturday night. It felt more like a beach cafe than a nice restaurant. First we got the Causa Salad. I don't know why they call it a salad - it was chopped up beets over mashed potatoes. For close to $20, it was not as advertised - we asked where the ingredients were, e.g. artichoke, asparagus and we were told they were mixed in with the potato. Honestly, it had very little flavor and was as small as a side dish. The tiradito Nikei was tasty, good quality fish. We also got the Lomo Saltado which was delish. I would maybe be willing to give it another shot. But considering the prices and the fact that it's located in the Mandarin, I expected something a little higher-end."

  • "My wife and I had a weekday lunch and a Friday night dinner at La Mar. The food was excellent. The lunch was pleasant, environment-wise, as it was not packed. We booked a table for our anniversary dinner on a Friday night, and there was not an empty table in the place by around 9 p.m. As others have noted, this restaurant is very noisy when full. Also, the restaurant knew it was our anniversary - we got a nice card from them when we were first seated - and yet, once the place was full, they turned a two-top banquette table beside us sideways to accommodate a group of three. This effectively put one of the new neighbors in my wife's lap. Not romantic nor pleasant. The staff moved us to another table and saved the day (or evening)."

  • "a great place to dine. every bit as good as the best in town."
    Dined on 6/12/2014
  • "No lleno mis expectativas, pobre carta de vinos, la comida bien pero nada especial."
    Dined on 6/11/2014
  • "The food is good, the service good and it is very hot. They have umbrellas over the tables that are lighted with about 400 watts - not romantic. The have taken a beautiful although warm outdoor setting and made it truly unappealing. They need a lighting specialist, fans and mist machines. The indoor restaurant is equally unattractive. Too bad. I would not go back. "

  • "In general, I find that the food in Miami is bland and over-priced, catering to tourists and the convention crowd. La Mar is pricey, but at least it's a wonderful dining experience. "

  • "The restaurant was busy but we were seated promptly in an ok location. The menu has plenty of choice and we chose a variety of small plates to start. The ceviche mixto was fabulous, the causa salad and the octopus skewers were also excellent. We finished with the seafood squid ink pasta which is not to be missed. It had been recommended to us by our server in the lobby bar and she got it spot on. The only minor downside was that we were at a two top in between two large tables for eight and the tables were too close together. People either side were almost sitting on our table! Overall a great experience and we will be back."

  • "Food was average. Nothing special. Because of the weather there was no outdoor seating. So the main dining area was filled and incredibly loud. Impossible to hear the conversation at the table."

  • "Great Experience! This is the third time that I have dinner at La Mar, and it's been excellent every time. "
    Dined on 6/3/2014
  • "Love the food, we ordered a few different diches, the ceviche sampler, duck fried rise, fried fish (wonderful) and the anticuchos. Everything was excellent. Service was good, helpful with dish sizes, and ordering for variety. We did not like the pisco sour, it had an after taste. The desserts were good, however, we found it strange that in a Peruvian restaurant there was no "Suspiro Limeno". Restaurant too noisy, but too hot to eat outside. View fabulous.!!!"

  • "Beautiful for outside dining. Inside it was terribly noisy. Food was delicious but the menu seemed limited. Very good but not outstanding as I expected"

  • "We went as a group of 8 with all different palates and La Mar satisfied us all! Fantastically delicious food served with incredible presentations. Started outside- what a great view!- but due to rain they graciously moved us inside. Very noisy inside but still a wonderful experience. Get the whole fish for an appetizer it's amazing!"

  • "Nice new decor, courteous eager staff, multiple unique dishes. Effort made on all accounts to make meal a unique experience!"
    Dined on 5/30/2014
  • "And la mer doesn't disappoint. Great service. Great food. Ceviche here is best in Miami, other Peruvian hot spots in town couldn't hold these chefs jock straps(if chefs actually wore them):). Classic ceviche, spicy ceviche, savory ceviche. It's all here. And the black squid seafood pasta is mind blowing. The ribeye is good and the la plancha is worth ordering but the real reasons I keep returning are mandarin service, food quality and spectacular views. Lunch on the terrace is not to be missed either"

  • "I have been in La Mar in the original one in Peru and in at least 2 other countries. The selection of the menu is smaller but every dish is prepared with the greatest attention to detail that characterizes the food in this place. Food is great, you have to visit it. Lunch time is the best since it gets really packed at night."
