my fav French place!I work for French company and try to do nearly all my work and personal lunches here. The deco is lovely and very french, the food is excellent. Many of my guests enjoy splitting the family style dishes for a real French lunch feel. the true test, my French colleagues are pleased with the cuisine!
The service is always attentive and quick, and very accomodating.6/10/2013 12:00:00 AMthe mussels and pommes fritesthe mussels and pommes frites were authentic French and delicious. The coc au vin was full of flavor but the sauce was a little too thick and heavy. the menu offered many attractive choices and the special red snapper sounded good. The Sancerre wine by the glass complemented the mussels really well and the Bordeaux haut medoc was full bodied and well rounded.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMCountry French feel and tasteWe had the mussels and roast chicken for our first dinner at this rustic little gem. Wait staff very attentive without ever getting in the way of two very chatty old friends. His chicken was moist and the broth delicious. My mussels were plentiful and well seasoned. A couple of glasses of Cote du Rhone from the by the glass section of the wine list were a surprise. Full-bodied, dry and with hints of cherry. A very convivial evening at a charming East Side classic French bistro.6/3/2013 12:00:00 AMVery pleasantWe thought the food superb here. Coming from Australia it's pricier than we're used to for the same but NYC is what it is. Would recommend it for sure.6/3/2013 12:00:00 AMJust a nice casual local diningJust a nice casual local dining spot. Food and service were very good - as they always are.
All of our party (4) enjoyed the wide selection of dining choices and all food was served hot and cooked to the right "temperature" as ordered. Wine list is good and reasonable.
Overall experience was very satisfying.6/3/2013 12:00:00 AMAs charming as it is deliciousA beautiful place with French country charm. This menu offers many wonderful dishes, created by a chef who can make you swoon. Be sure to consider the special dishes, too. As they are further proof of the truly inspired genius that sets this great restaurant around the top of the list of NYC eateries. This is one place where I was very happy to be. Relaxed and gracious, it should not be missed, in a city where so many others wish to do so well.6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMthis was a delight to havethis was a delight to have a nice and noiseless dinner no loud music and you coul keep anormal conversation and enjoy your food i wish there were more such places the food an service very good and pleasant waiters6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMI have gone to this restaurantI have gone to this restaurant for years and loved it. Hadn't been in some times and was disappointed that the prices had skyrocketed. While I will go back, I probably won't go as often given the price increase. Salads for $15 are what I'd pay at a much higher end place. No need to pay that price here.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent brunchWas very pleased with the many delicious choices on the prix fixe brunch. Includes mimosa et al, plus coffee including cappuccino. The house bread was hot, crusty and flavorful. My guests were very happy with the choice and a wonderful time was had by all.5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMComfortStill great if you crave roast chicken -- which most of us often do. And great if you live in area -- midtown-east.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMExceptionalIf you love country French food without pretense but with authenticity, this is it. Consistently one of the best meals in NYC and a great value.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat place to tryI took my mother this past weekend for a nice Mother's Day dinner and she loved it minus the bread, which was pretty standard. My sister and I picked this place because we thought it would interesting to try a family style french restaurant. The food was delicious, the cauliflower gratin was so good my b/f thought it was mac n cheese! The waiter was courteous but had a slightly heavy accent. We loved the countryside decor, it felt very homey especially with the hearty food. The only minor issue was a large group came in shortly after we ordered dinner and the shape of the restaurant amplified the noise they were making. Would definitely recommend people give it a try!5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMA surprise hit!I live across the street...but never went in. After my first visit last week, I went again the next night. WOW! There were 7 of us...and we wanted a quiet-ish place. The food was outrageously good! I'm a big onion soup fan and order it whenever it's available. This was THE BEST onion soup I've ever had. No plain swiss for this chef. I don't know what cheese they used, but the flavors were intense and the melt wasn't soft and gooey, but it had some chew while still making just the perfect melty strings. The roasted beet salad with hazelnut oil and hazelnuts...ridiculously flavorful. 7 people...and every one of them loved their meals. Oh....and the french fries? Do die for. The service was friendly but respectful. Expensive...but worth it.5/6/2013 12:00:00 AMFavorite Neighborhood French BistroLa Mangeoire is the little neighborhood French bistro you wish you had in YOUR neighborhood. Consistently good food in a charming setting, presided over by an owner who is genial but not overbearing. Service is good, food is beautifully prepared--try the frisée saad to start, where a duck egg is expertly poached then breaded and quickly deep-fried, for a crunchy yet runny addition to its dressing. Mussels are, of course, thir speciality and always available on the menu, although currently the preparation is with thyme, cream and fennel rather than the traditional tomato-based sauce. Still delicious.
Another great thing is that dishes come in two sizes, so those with smaller appetites can enjoy dinner without feeling overstuffed.4/22/2013 12:00:00 AMWorth the wait!Had heard about it on radio from maven Schwartz and jotted down address. Went after 192 days. Wasn't disappointed, my food was delicious from fresh beet salad to pâté(to die for) and baked red snapper. Desert was homemade salty caramel ice cream. Truly fresh and homemade an perfect way to end evening. The service was Attentive but not annoying. Can't wait to go back!4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful food, classicallyWonderful food, classically prepared...like stepping into France. Today, our table had mussels, quiche, and a lamb stew - three totally different meals, yet all just perfect, just like always at this restaurant!4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMEverything was fantastic.Everything was fantastic. The host was charming...I had not picked up my cell phone message asking me to re-confirm, but he had held my table. The menu is basically French country cooking at it's best. You can order a small or a large version of the entrees, either was copious, no tapas size portions. I will definitely go back. I wish it were in my neighborhood.4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways a good time!I always have the best time at La Mangeoire and this time was no different. Food was great (ordered the french toast for brunch) and the service was superb. Highly recommend going here if you are looking to have an enjoyable and tasty meal!4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMOur party of three thoroughlyOur party of three thoroughly enjoyed our evening at La Mangeoire. Mains were Red Snapper, Lamb Stew and Steak all prepared and flavored very well. Nice wine list. Meal was so filling that there was no room to sample the interesting dessert list. Note that this restaurant is not inexpensive - but know that this is a restaurant that we will keep on our "return" list.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMThis restaurant is an FrenchThis restaurant is an French country dining oasis in the middle of Manhattan.4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMLa Mangeoire never disappoints.La Mangeoire never disappoints. Could not have been more enjoyable.4/10/2013 12:00:00 AMLike a Vacation in France! One of the few NY restaurants we return to again and again. It always feels like we're being transported for a couple of hours to the French countryside.4/9/2013 12:00:00 AMA wonderful ambience and dinnerA wonderful ambience and dinner and service to match. A totally plaesant evening.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderfully prepared food,Wonderfully prepared food, excellent service, unrushed relaxing dinner experience in a lovely small restaurant. What more could you ask for?4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMOverall the food was excellent.Overall the food was excellent. For starters we had the quiche and the special carrot soup. Since there were 3 of us two shared the quiche. All excellent. For the main we had their special roasted chicken for 3 with Bibb lettuce and french fries. The lettuce and the fires were excellent but I felt the chicken was a little dry even though the gave us a carafe of jus. It was tasty but I expected it to be moist. I skipped dessert while my companions had the lemon tarte and pot au creme. They enjoyed the desserts but I tasted them and felt they were just ok. Overall I still recommend this restaurant. One point to mention prices on the al a carte menu have gone up.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMA perfect French restaurant LocalsA perfect French restaurant

Incredible4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMLa Mangeoire remains an excellentLa Mangeoire remains an excellent place. It hits the right notes with creative, well prepared and delicious food, a fine wine list, and great service. A reservation is a good idea, since every time I am there, it is full. The atmosphere is one of fine dining, but without pretense. All in all this is one my favorite places to take guests to brunch or dinner.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMLove this place. The foodLove this place. So far La Mangeoire is two for two -- can't wait for our next trip to New York and another Christian Delouvrier meal.1/22/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had an excellent ChristmasWe had an excellent Christmas Eve dinner for 3. The restaurant was very crowded but the service was excellent. So the crowd did not interfere with top notch service. Two in the group had the dinner price fixed menu which was very good and the third had escargots as a starter and the small portion of duck confit as the main. All in all all the portions were very good size so value for money is very very good. To accompany our dinner we had a nice bottle of a modestly priced Bordeaux. I highly recommend this restaurant. People living in the near vicinity are lucky to have such a nice place to eat.12/24/2012 12:00:00 AMChef was out greeting people.Chef was out greeting people. Food was excellent.
