A word from La Mangeoire
With its rustic décor, lush flower arrangements and romantic ambiance, dinners are easily transported to the warmth of the French country side the moment they walk through the door.

In late Spring, Summer, and early Fall, one can dine outside at the sidewalk café. In true French style, the terrace is lined with flowers echoing the romance of La Mangeoire’s interior.

La Mangeoire offers 3 uniquely decorated dining rooms for private gatherings. Two of these rooms provide intimate settings for business meetings or small social gatherings. For larger celebrations, such as bridal or baby showers, prenuptial dinners, engagement, wedding and anniversary parties, the restaurant can accommodate up to 60 guests

Needed a quiet restaurant for a relatively early dinner after seeing a Sunday matinee. It was nice and quiet--perfect for conversation. The food was quite good, traditional bistro fare. My husband and I had the rabbit and our friend had the pork loin...both excellent. The only down was the house wines were quite ordinary at best. The cabernet sauvignon was not good at all...Still, I would go back.

We selected the restaurant based on an Open Table review and it exceeded our expectations. The food preparation was incredible. My wife is a food snob and felt that the cassoulet was the best that she had ever had. My wild bass was equally impressive. We loved the French country atmosphere and the service was impeccable - friendly, unobtrusive, and always there when needed. It's a delightful and intimate restaurant and we will definitely be planning a return visit.

This is our third time in La Mangeoire and every time we go we vow to go more often. It never disappoints. Two of us had beet salad with endives which was excellent. We had three different entrees, scallops, pasta and the mussels with Fries. All of us gladly shared so we all got to taste the entrees which were delicious and the presentations were lovely. The staff was fun, friendly and helpful. The desserts were good but a notch below the level of the entrees. We look forward to going back.

Recently took my niece to celebrate her birthday. She wanted a French restaurant so I picked La Mangeoire. Have eaten there several times before. The food was really delicious. We both enjoyed our meals. Service was friendly. Gets a little crowded and noisy but the food is the reason you go there. Highly recommend it!

We spent a wonderful evening in this restaurant. The food was fantastic . Full of flavor . We were advised by Yoan which provided a perfect service. He recommended a wine that was exactly our expectations. We stayed with our two children who were very kindly welcomed . So if you are looking to eat a quality meal and drink good wine , I would recommend this restaurant without hesitation.

This restaurant is quaint and quiet with good food and service. The roasted beet and endive salad was fresh and tasty. My husband had the homemade pate, smoked duck breast, chicken liver mousse and toasted french bread - it was all good. For the main course, I had the mussels in white wine with the best french fries I have ever had. My husband had delicious scallops in a lobster sauce with orzo pasta. We shared profiteroles for dessert. Lovely dinner experience with attentive service.

Returned again to La Mangeoire this week. Like a well worn shirt, going there produces a sense of comfort. It is a window to the authentic country cooking of France, not a chic modern place but a place where your parents would have taken you. Christian DeLouvrier continues to turn out superb traditional dishes. The chicken liver mousse was creamy and rife with flavor. My guest, from France commented that it was like "mother made". The blanquette du veau, a deceptively simple looking dish, was equally authentic. The pearl onions cooked to perfection, soft yet crunchy. The veal supple and fluid. Cheese at the end was fine if not extraordinary. And then I stepped back out onto 2nd Avenue and the dream was over.

You can't beat the wonderful half-portion menu at LaMangeoire. I thoroughtly enjoyed the scallops on a bed of rice with a glass of Sancerre. The bread, olives, olive oil and anchovy paste on the table for munching are irresistible. This is a wonderful quiet restaurant for a quiet conversation where you can actually hear your companion. We enjoyed an inspired fare of French cuisine in this intimate and relaxing location featuring wonderful tasty breads, large selection of French wines, and a varied menu including mussels, cllops, squid and golden brown roasted chicken with some very interesting sauces. The service was impeccable, and the wait staff and maitre d' were very accomodating to our special seating needs (one gues with hearing impairment, and one in a wheelchair). The three of enjoyed a memorable meal and would return for another if we find ourselves in the neighborhood again.

I live in the neighborhood and have been enjoying La Mangeoire for many years. It only seems to get better. The service is attentive without being intrusive; there is a choice of moderately priced wines; the menu balances the traditional and the imaginative. For a recent birthday celebration, our party of five was seated in a quiet corner which we very much appreciated. Five stars all around.

My wife and I decided to return three days after our last visit, WE are in town for the US Open and we needed a place that was close to the hotel with great food. This was a proven commodity, and we were to tire to explore much. We were not disappointed. The service and food were excellent, just like our first visit. If you are noise sensetive like we are, ask for a table away from the door. The noise from second avenue can get to be a bit much.

This place is way too pricey for what you get. I took out of town company here thinking it would be very special and was embarrassed at how ordinary the meal was for such a high tab. If you are going to charge $16 for a small bowl of soup, it should not be ho-hum.

It is very rare that I write about the service at a restaurant before the food. This is one of those cases. The wait staff was outstanding from the water pourer to the primary server. We never had to ask for them but they were never in the way. A glass near empty would be filled within seconds. Our server made great recommendations. Be sure to ask for the specials. It may save you the trouble of reading the menu. The salmon spread appetizer was superior. The tuna steak, ordered black and blue, was perfect. My wife had a more traditional French selection that was equally as good. The inside environ is blissfully low noise even though it opens onto 2nd Ave. this one has gone on my favorites list.
