A word from La Madia - A Contemporary Pizzeria
At La Madia, two pleasures - great food and distinctive, delicious wines - come together. La Madia is an urban restaurant that upholds Italian tradition. Every day, our chefs make our pizza dough and fresh pasta from scratch from little more than flour, water, and salt.
The menu is designed for sharing, with flavor-packed, wood-fired pizzas that change seasonally, inventive salads, and savory pasta dishes. Desserts are all made on the premises, in keeping with what's available in the market. The wine list is a wine lover's dream, with more than 75 wines by the glass and hundreds of bottles. And every week, we feature two of our favorite wines for just $6 per glass. In addition to wine and more than 25 beers, La Madia offers innovative cocktails, many of which are made from spirits infused in-house. Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "Still can't beat Eataly when it comes to Neopolitan pizza in Chicago. Margherita was disappointing, but White Pizza with Kale and an egg was delicious other than the crust."

  • "I came here with some friends at the recommendation of a good friend who lives in the city. We thought the food was excellent, especially for the prices, which were very good. It was a quiet Sunday night, and our waiter was very friendly and attentive. I had the thin-crust pizza that was on special, with ricotta, heirloom tomatoes, and basil. Very delicious."

  • "We love the pizza at La Madia and we CRAVE the dipping sauce from their Spinach & Taleggio Fondue with Truffle Oil. We always get the sauce (it's creamy green in color) and dip the crust from the pizza in it. They charge us $5 for the sauce alone but it's SO worth it. Truffle Oil makes everything better. We rarely dine in, but we were pleased to find that it was nicely and comfortably decorated. It was chic but inviting - especially with the open kitchen. Most of the servers were wonderful but our primary server seemed as if she wasn't into people. She didn't make any conversation and her facial expressions seemed unenthusiastic. It provided a point of amusement whenever she happened by our table. She put our pizza in a togo box upsidedown."

  • "About as close as you can get for authentic Italian pizza with great service and wine/beer list. A restaurant that is worth visiting multiple times to try all the great combinations on the menu."

  • "The pizza fondue is amazing! Great variety of pizzas and some of the best gnocchi I have ever had."

  • "On return visit to Chicago it was at the top of my food stops list. It was as good as I remembered & will continue on my list for next visit too!"

  • "Always enjoy the fennel sausage pizza. Tried the fried egg pizza, my hubby loved it, me not so much..."

  • "Great wood fired pizza. Unique appetizers and great wine selection."

  • "but the service was just a little off tonight. Didn't have the gin I wanted, didn't have an ingredient for the Moscow Mule and didn't have one other thing on the menu but what we did order was as usual very delicious. Still a favorite."

  • "Delicious clam pizza. Lamb sausage pizza also excellent. Huge salad fed three. Nice wine list. Delightful waiter (Alex) who knew ingredients well (great for nut allergy diner) and had ready answers to all questions. Noise level of place would be only downside."

  • "Have been to La Madia before and have had a postive experience. Firday must have been an off night! The salad was supposed to be chopped-it was not -the greens were stringy and there was little dressing. The pizza was tasteless-the cheese very stringy and the coffee was horrendous!"

  • "We were recommended this restaurant for our trip to Chicago. It was one of the best on our trip. It is thin-crust pizza as opposed to the Chicago style thick-crust version. It had a good wine list also."

  • "If you want casual yet elegant with good food in a big city, this is a find. It was pizza and pasta in Chicago but not Chicago style pizza. The food was good and the service was just the right amount of attentiveness without intrusiveness. Highly recommend the bruschetta appetizer and the roasted artichokes. They had a really nice selection of white pizzas. The wine list was extensive."

  • "Unbelievably good woodfired thin pizzas, the best in Chicago"

  • "Seated promptly and service was fast. Great food, location and the valet was outstanding HIGHLY RECOMMEND for a date or group outing. Whoever runs this place has it together and others need to follow ."

  • "What a fun place! My date recommended we go here, and I'm a fan of another wood fired pizza place. Winner of the night - the spinach fondue with the wood fired pizza bread. Holy flavor town! The pizza was soggy, which was disappointing, but we think it was all the grease/fat from the pork belly - I would avoid pork belly pizzas. The pasta was extraordinary! Handmade pasta, light red sauce, guanciale....I'll have just pasta the next time I go. Sidenote: the Moscow mule was "meh"; go with a glass of wine instead as they have good value wines on the list."

  • "My friend and I went here for a light, late dinner. The two of split an appetizer, a salad and a pasta dish. It was just the right amount of food. The mushroom bruschette was amazing. The salad was fresh and the ravioli pasta was delicious. We sat at a front window table on a beautiful night - it was perfect."

  • "This is by far our favorite place to eat. This is some of the best pizza I've ever had in Chicago."

  • "LOVE this place! I go a lot and I can't help but rave about it! They treat me like family so I keep coming back... but that's not enough... no the food is also incredible! As is the wine, the ambiance and the service. I'm sorry but it doesn't get better! I feel at home without cleaning my own home! It's pure perfection! "

  • "This place is one of the best places for pizza in Chicago, if it is thin crust that you are after. The pizzas are made to order by craftsmen and are among the best I have tasted anywhere on the world. The buffalo mozzarella pizza is highly recommended!"

  • "I absolutely love La Madia, even after all these years. Great pizza, delicious wine, at a comfortable price. I will always keep coming back!"

  • "La Madia is our favorite lunch spot on Sunday. It's generally quiet and the pizzas are just as good (or better) than Friday or Saturday night"

  • "Restaurant apparently over-booked with groups. Food great, good waiter, but kitchen could not get food out in timely manner. Maybe another time."
    Dined on 5/17/2014
  • "I was dining with 2 other girlfriends and we all got there 20 minutes early. While seats were open, we had to wait until our time. That's fine, I expect that at some places - just something to remember if I come back. I really do want to bring my husband back here to try some of the food. We had the Margherita | Mozzarella di Bufala Campana, Tomato Sauce & Torn Basil (really good), Spinach & Taleggio Fondue | White Truffle Oil (unbelievably good) and 2 pizzas - Shaved Artichoke | Reggiano Parmesan & Garlic & Taleggio & 3-Hour Roasted Grapes. Both were good but the shaved artichoke pizza was REALLY good. Try it - go for the food!! There's more to eat there for sure!"

  • "The meat cheese and basil were as fresh as can be found. Price very reasonable! Warm and friendly atmosphere. We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner and will definitely return every time we are in Chicago. "

  • "Good atmosphere. Was disappointed with food tho. I didnt find anything special with their food. "

  • "Every single time, the service is awfully slow. I spent 2.5 hours there for dinner in a group of six and it was because of the extremely slow service. They need to hire more servers."

  • "LaMadia does it right. Salads are different and good. The arugula and roasted grapes is my favorite. White pizzas -the best. Service always spot on. A go to place for us. Enjoy. "

  • "La Madia is quickly becoming one of my favorite restaurants. Service has always been great, though this past experience I wasn't all that pleased - our waiter was really slow with refilling drinks and gave each of us a hard time for ordering an additional drink. Maybe because we weren't drinking wine, but still - it's not like the soft drinks or lemonades are that much cheaper. Also, there are no free refills on non-alcoholic beverages, which is ridiculous, and it's not stated on the menu. If our waiter was giving us that much of a headache about ordering more to drink, he should have told us. Shouldn't be a surprise when the bill comes. Aside from that, La Madia has some of the best pizza around. Food is always delicious."

  • "I selected this restaurant for its location for a work lunch meeting and I lucked-out. At the 1:30 hour the place was empty save for a few folks at the bar and two tables, so noise wasn't an issue. Given its friendly and prompt service, and tasty food, I would guess it's busy and noisy during the lunch hour. I ordered a pizza and the crust was the perfect blend of crunchy and chewy, which is enjoyed and didn't leave behind on my plate, and it was light, perfect for a lunch meal. I will definitely be going back for more!"

  • "I randomly found this restaurant off of google maps because it was close to the hotel I was staying at. I had the Margherita pizza and it was so good I actually ordered another! The pizza sauce they use is very unique, and I would love it if I could find other pizza places that use the same! Their ingredients are very fresh and makes the pizza extremely delicious. The pizza crust almost has a smoky taste and smell which makes it uniquely delicious too! There was not one part of the pizza that I did not like!"

  • "Great salads, great pizzas, and though I didn't try any pasta dishes, the one in our group said the ravioli was oustanding. All in all, a great place that doesn't hit you too hard in the pocketbook. Our server was very friendly and attentive and gave many suggestions. Would definitely return."

  • "This is a great spot for those of you who crave Neopolitan-style (thin crust) pizza in Chicago. Plus they have wonderful salads and desserts and a good wine list."

  • "It was a nice dinner and the noise level wasn't too loud. Its a trendy place. Their speciality is pizza. We tried their magherita pizza which was great! Their pasta was okay - nothing too tasty. But their pizza was amazing. Would def go again for a night out. Their cocktail crimson was delicious and def was not watered down."

  • "Went with friends on a Friday night and we all had a great time. Great food and service, not too loud to have a conversation. Lots of interesting choices on the menu. Everything is made to share, so order several different things (and be adventurous)!"

  • "If you like thin Italian style pizza, this is the place! The triple pepperoni with truffle oil was delicious, as well as the salad. The salad was simple yet refined and perfectly dressed. The drinks were great as well! Quite stiff!"
