A word from La Madia - A Contemporary Pizzeria
At La Madia, two pleasures - great food and distinctive, delicious wines - come together. La Madia is an urban restaurant that upholds Italian tradition. Every day, our chefs make our pizza dough and fresh pasta from scratch from little more than flour, water, and salt.
The menu is designed for sharing, with flavor-packed, wood-fired pizzas that change seasonally, inventive salads, and savory pasta dishes. Desserts are all made on the premises, in keeping with what's available in the market. The wine list is a wine lover's dream, with more than 75 wines by the glass and hundreds of bottles. And every week, we feature two of our favorite wines for just $6 per glass. In addition to wine and more than 25 beers, La Madia offers innovative cocktails, many of which are made from spirits infused in-house. Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "I selected this restaurant for its location for a work lunch meeting and I lucked-out. At the 1:30 hour the place was empty save for a few folks at the bar and two tables, so noise wasn't an issue. Given its friendly and prompt service, and tasty food, I would guess it's busy and noisy during the lunch hour. I ordered a pizza and the crust was the perfect blend of crunchy and chewy, which is enjoyed and didn't leave behind on my plate, and it was light, perfect for a lunch meal. I will definitely be going back for more!"

  • "If you like thin Italian style pizza, this is the place! The triple pepperoni with truffle oil was delicious, as well as the salad. The salad was simple yet refined and perfectly dressed. The drinks were great as well! Quite stiff!"

  • "I randomly found this restaurant off of google maps because it was close to the hotel I was staying at. I had the Margherita pizza and it was so good I actually ordered another! The pizza sauce they use is very unique, and I would love it if I could find other pizza places that use the same! Their ingredients are very fresh and makes the pizza extremely delicious. The pizza crust almost has a smoky taste and smell which makes it uniquely delicious too! There was not one part of the pizza that I did not like!"

  • "Great salads, great pizzas, and though I didn't try any pasta dishes, the one in our group said the ravioli was oustanding. All in all, a great place that doesn't hit you too hard in the pocketbook. Our server was very friendly and attentive and gave many suggestions. Would definitely return."

  • "This is a great spot for those of you who crave Neopolitan-style (thin crust) pizza in Chicago. Plus they have wonderful salads and desserts and a good wine list."

  • "It was a nice dinner and the noise level wasn't too loud. Its a trendy place. Their speciality is pizza. We tried their magherita pizza which was great! Their pasta was okay - nothing too tasty. But their pizza was amazing. Would def go again for a night out. Their cocktail crimson was delicious and def was not watered down."

  • "Great food, great ambiance, great location, great service, awesome wine list and easy on the wallet. Boom- what more do you need?"

  • "Went with friends on a Friday night and we all had a great time. Great food and service, not too loud to have a conversation. Lots of interesting choices on the menu. Everything is made to share, so order several different things (and be adventurous)!"

  • "The salad we shared was very fresh, the ingredients were very tasty. The same can be said about our shared pizza. Very tasty!"

  • "Best thin crust pizza in the city - so many different kinds to choose from! They also offer a smaller selection of other entrees, salads and appetizers. The wine flights are fantastic. We always feel at home whenever we visit - which at times is not all that frequent; however the staff treats us as if we dined there every day."

  • "Great atmosphere, fit for a night out with the girls or a romantic dinner. Wine list is extensive with some great moderately priced gems, and food is always solid. We generally stick with salads and pizzas. With so many great choices, grab a couple of each for the table and share. This time around we felt our server was rushing us, despite half the restaurant being empty. That was frustrating considering the size of our tab - but generally the service is not an issue. Can get pricey if you enjoy your wine like we do! But definitely worth checking out. Enjoy!"

  • "The services was great. Food was disappointing. We got the 3 cheese pizza but it was flat. I know cheese pizza is simple but doesn't mean that it should be bland. Chicken ravioli had some flavor but it did not rock. I would still put itin the bland category."

  • "Pizza was original and delicious, prices were reasonable, and there were a great range of wines by the bottle, spanning a range of price points."

  • "I always say Italian-speaking Lugano Switzerland for best Italian pizza, better than Milan or Como, etc.. La Madia has the best thin-crust pizza outside of Lugano. The pizza selection is excellent. We were only disappointed by the appetizers: this place is really just for the pizza and wine to accompany it. The vibe is nice, laid back and buzzing; service is good."

  • "Love the lunch special for two! Great food and the price is doable! :)"

  • "Went here with three friends for a girls night out. It was great on the wallet because the pizzas are made for sharing (not individuals as I had thought) so we ordered two pizzas to share between us and left satisfied. When you break it down a glass of wine costs more than the pizza. We were a little late and so missed our reservation but did not have to wait long for a table on a Friday night"

  • "I took my friends from out of town and the food, the service, the experience did not disappoint"

  • "Been going here for several years because of the food, the ambiance and the STAFF! This visit was no different, I took a girlfriend who was visiting the city and she actually had been before and asked to go back! We thoroughly enjoyed our food and wine! She was so impressed that they let us taste the wine before we made a decision which is very generous."

  • "We visit Chicago four-five times a year and always eat at La Madia during our visit. Our children, who are quite young, but old enough to appreciate good food, love going to La Madia for the fondue, salad and interesting pizzas. It is also a wonderful place to meet friends because they have round tables which offer an easier way to visit with all."

  • "I loved La Madia. First of all, we had just went to see a play in Lincoln Park and it was snowing terribly when we left, and we tried to flag down a cab for 45 minutes! We were going to be late for our reservation, but when we called La Madia, they were extremely understanding and allowed us to come later. The host and the waitress were both very friendly. The food was great! So many pizzas to choose from and both were delicious that we had! If you go, you have to get spinach fondue starter - amazing!!"

  • "The variety of pizzas is great and the 3 we had were delicious. Wine was very good and the variety was amazing. Artichoke appetizer was so good and great for sharing. Same with the mussels appetizer. I would go back."

  • "Our dinner was lovely and the service was outstanding. This is very consistent with every time I've visited, both at lunch and dinner. Definitely recommended if you are looking for something different."

  • "We arrived a few minutes early but waited about 10 -- 15 minutes for our table to be ready. It was crowded (Saturday and the day after Valentine's Day.) The staff gave us frequent updates on our status, which was helpful. We thought we would have the Valentine's weekend menu (5 amazing looking courses), but opted instead for a few favourites: the sausage & onion pizza and the pasta amatriciana. Excellent as usual."

  • "We love going at lunch on Sunday. The food is still excellent, but it's not crowded and noisy as it is on Saturday night. The servers can spend more time with you if you need it (especially the wine list) but also know when you don't. Our favorites are the 3 cheese and the fennel sausage & onion pizzas."
    Dined on 2/23/2014
  • "The food was very good and reasonable in price. We definitely are going to go back!!"
    Dined on 2/14/2014
  • "Great, reasonably-priced food. Service was slow, but this was due to the busyness of the restaurant and not so much the fault of the servers. Our server was very friendly and knowledgeable; he was just stretched too thinly by having to look after too many tables"
    Dined on 2/15/2014
  • "This Italian gem never fails to impress. The regular menu is great, but the Valentine's special menu was amazing."
    Dined on 2/14/2014
  • "La Madia had great food - I strongly recommend the pizza and the buffalo mozzarella bruschetta. BUT the tables are SO close together you get no privacy. It was Valentines Day and there was a table of 16 parents and 2 year olds. NOT romantic but also not their problem. It just shows that it's not a "fine dining" restaurant like I would have imagined. Good food though - probably more for lunch rather than a romantic meal."

  • "I love this place and have since they opened. The food is fabulous, service wonderful, and location super convenient. If you haven't tried La Madia, you must do yourself a favor."

  • "space was super drafty and our table was positioned right by the door which made for an unpleasant evening"

  • "Great service for Chicago Restaurant week! The menu options were great and compared to other places to choose from there were a variety of options especially for a group of people."

  • "We picked this restaurant based on the menu and location(next to the hotel we stayed at). We knew nothing about them but were pleasantly surprised. The food was fantastic and they had a great wine and beer list. We would definitely return if we are in the area again."
    Dined on 1/25/2014
  • "This is absolutely our favorite place for pizza (as we love thin crust). We have told so many friends about this restaurant over the years and it never disappoints. The ambience is slightly more elegant than a normal pizzeria appealing to people of all ages. On any given evening you might find several families; singles and couples; small groups for a bachelorette party; business associates - and somehow it all works. This restaurant makes our top five in the near north area of Chicago. Great wine flights and pasta dishes too!"

  • "We order take out from here all the time, you can't beat their pizzas, they are amazing! The carbonara and triple pepperoni are our favorites!"
    Dined on 1/17/2014
  • "I've been here a few times and the food has always been great. The past two times we've had reservations (for four people), they have been an hour behind. If you're seeing any comedy shows/plays downtown, make sure you have ample time."
    Dined on 9/27/2013
  • "Our waiter was very annoying and a bit strange. He didn't give us enough space to enjoy our meal and was giving really strange suggestions and tidbits along the way. Our spinach and cheese fondu appetizer was the best part of the meal. The Italian lettuces salad was alright. Our param pizza was a disappointment. The prosciutto was just ok and the pizza wasn't very flavorful."
    Dined on 1/15/2014
  • "The pizzas here may not be deep pan, but they are the best that I have had in North America."
    Dined on 1/14/2014
  • "It's ok, high-energy, lots of pizza, but it tends to be greasy and heavy. One pizza in enough (and more) for 2, so if you order pizza plan to share. Nothing outstanding. Desserts ok."
    Dined on 1/10/2014
  • "Food were good. I had a pizza and a pasta, and I shared it with my friend. I recommend this place. They had a good beer selection as well. I enjoyed it. Service was very good as well."

  • "love their pizzas, and handmade pasta, not to mention their firecakes' donuts! but my favorites are the big salads, easily enough for two or entree as portions are generous. need to come back here more often!"
