One of the great classic French restaurants. Fresh flowers, service that is attentive and welcoming, for grown ups, a sumptuous menu that includes, yes, frogs legs and (don't see them much anymore, cause they're difficult to do well) quenelles, not to kent ion souffles for dessert. And the blessed quiet, yes, quiet murmur of others' conversation...eating while others are screaming is not my idea of fun. Oh, and very generous portions. A two hour lunch... Blissful food, superb service ... Is there anything better?

3 scallops for a main course is rather miserly. Service: first rate. Ambiance:nice. Bread: ordinary. I have had better lobster bisque. Dessert: bland. L G used to be my favorite in NYC.

La Grenouille is still one of the great restaurants in NYC. The food is superb. My wife got the Dover Sole and she thought it was one of the best she had ever had(and she has had a lot!) My Lamb was exquisite. Desserts were also wonderful. I would go back tomorrow.

La Grenouille serves superbly prepared classic French dishes in an elegant setting at usurious prices. My quibbles: We're not regulars, so we weren't warmly received. (Our reception wasn't rude, merely indifferent.) And because we were seated in the rear of the restaurant, our captain assumed we were rubes who had never seen a menu before. The level of pretension is high. Desserts are more sweet than interesting, but I can't fault anything else. The world-class kitchen redeems my quibbles.

With new chefs and improved food, a great restaurant manages to become an extraordinary restaurant. Tables a might crowded perhaps and prices are high but overall the best traditional restaurant in New York and now one of the top in the world. Go for any special occasion you can think of... even if only your kid's hamster's birthday.

Although in good condition, the room and food seem dowdy and tired. The preparations while classic are heavy, and out of date. Even the famous flowers, although copius, were droopy and not well put together. Although it was ok, the experience was very disappointing and sad to see such a renouned house in a state of decline. The desserts were excellent.

You go for the history and the name, but you return for the service. The food is technically correct and nicely presented but you don't talk about the Oxtail or Scallops when you describe your experience. Fortunately the wait staff is very good and the bartender is outstanding. In fact, I would return for the superior service and the exquisite room but not for the food.

From the moment of our welcome, service was the best ever, anywhere. There were many choices and I don't think it was possible to go wrong on any of them but perhaps the most unusual and beautifully presented was the spinach souffle appetizer. I will be back for a special occasion and who knows, I might even find the earring I think I brushed off in the restroom!

We chose to go to La Grenouille as we had dined there a few years ago in the private dining room & felt it would be the perfect spot to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The restaurant is beautiful & I can't really find any fault with anything. The only negative from my perspective is that the menu selections are SO classically French which I realize is intentional that they are boring. The food is well prepared but no innovation at all which I found disappointing. Both my husband & I would have preferred a menu that reflected the changes even French cuisine has experienced!!

Just returned from a visit...No longer a prix-fee menu and prices are quite high...The food itself was good, but not great...Had the steak which was not flavorful...the salad appetizer was good, but nothing special...The dessert was fair at best... Has great ambience and service and a very low noise level..That alone may be a reason to go to La Grenouille, but for the price, the food itself should be better.

One of top ten NYC restaurants in Zagat's opinion, but the big story is the bargain for the luxury Fantastic service, unbelievable flowers, and most people spend a ton of money here. But any couple can come, have a three course good-as-top-France three-course meal (including anything including dessert souffles, for $106 each and there are many wine options at $50-60. Total bill for two $262 plus tax & tip. Nobody knows that this haut cuisine bargain is hiding at 3 E 52 St.

Came here for business lunch. Felt the place stuffy. Service was quite good, but very expensive, should have known. Though not sure it's worth while to order soufflé for additional $11, on top of the $64 prix-fixe. Food was good but felt overpriced. To be fair, it's not marketed to someone like me who can't appreciate what it has to offer.

La Grenouille does not disappoint. One always wonders when you have a little time off to spruce things up how it will be afterwards. Marvelous, simply marvelous. The sole was so sublime I wanted to order another one to take home. We enjoyed unparalleled service and a quiet atmosphere of elegant dining. With so many choices I finally just opted to end with a cheese plate and a perfect port. And enjoyed every bite of the petit fours. It is good to see our old friend still has all the style, and all the flavors to keep us coming back.

I made reservations at La Grenouille through OpenTable and was excited to use my $100 OpenTable gift check at this place. This place is overpriced and they refused to accept the OpenTable gift check, even though I showed evidence they were on OpenTable and had made the reservations through OpenTable. The OpenTable website clearly states that OpenTable gift checks are accepted at all OpenTable restaurants. However this restaurant refused it stating it was their policy not to accept it. When I asked for a copy of their "policy" I was told it was neither written nor available for me to see. Simply Outrageous! La Grenouille should be removed from OpenTable all together. Everyone beware!

Had 3 courses and while eating soufflé turned to talk to my wife seated next to me and soufflé taken from table with half left and check presented to table. This was far too much of a RUSH to get us out fast A dinner of this caliber should NOT be in this much of a rush!!!!

Physically and aesthetically top shelf. The light floral scent that caresses you when you enter a magical room of spectacular blossoms is hypnotizing. The excellent amuse bouche and the gougere get you excited. But then...my sweetbread and wild mushroom app was so salty it had to be prepared anew. Then my scallop entree was ever so slightly overcooked. That's a cardinal sin Nothing besides the gougere & truffles brought down the house though. The desserts were very good but they sounded better than the actuality delivered. So all in all I thought "c'mon guys, I KNOW you can do better" I'd go back to see if they can. They've survived an unabashedly expensive offering since the sixties. That along with the intoxicating aromas deserve it.

Service was fabulous as always. Food not so much - which was very disappointing. Not up to usual excellence. Dover Sole was laden with Paprika and mustard sauce was a bit overpowering. Pate was underwhelming. Always has been a go to place, but will have to re-think that for our next trip to NYC.
