Diner Reviews
  • "My friend wanted La Fondue for her birthday dinner and she should it was going to just be 2-3 of us going. I was able to round up a few people and surprise her with a birthday dinner with 7 other people. Half the group had been there before and half had never heard of the place. The newbies were very lost in the beginning and there was a little fear in their eyes. Our servers helped them feel comfortable and explain the process. The table was tight for a group of 8 (I think the table is meant for 6) but we are a close group so that was not a problem. We were all close to the food. Great cocktails ( loved the French Pear martini!) and a good wine list. It is a place I love to go too."

  • "Jeff, our server, was friendly and awesome. He helped us get settled into a lovely booth in the back room and explained the process of ordering the 4 course meal. He gave us top notch service and even took the time to take a very nice photo of us (at my request), as it was a special occassion. My boyfriend, who can be very particular about food quality, loved this place! Thank you for making the evening so special. Well worth the money spent."

  • "This is my favorite place to go for my birthday. Haven't been there since they changed their menu and raised their prices. We were in sticker shock after we opened our menus and ordered less than we normally do. It's a little too dark and noisy (my dad had to shut off his hearing aids), but the fondue is still quite good."

  • "Nice place for a date. Be prepared to eat.... As in a LOT! There's a lot to choose from on the menu, it can be daunting- but the staff does an excellent job helping explain."

  • "I have been going to La Fondue since it opened some 21 years ago. Together we've taught friends and family about the joys of truly amazing food, ambiance, and yes, love. My children have grown up there, and now take their dates to La Fondue. Menu changes are infrequent but always positive. Service is world class. Food is outstanding. Mitch and Tracy Cutler have truly made magic here. I would enthusiastically recommend it."

  • "I came for a work dinner and it was very fun to make the food with my co- workers. It was a way to bond and have great conversation. Cheese was all of our favorites."

  • "Service: Terrible...yes, we got the waiter like others who stacked our dishes a foot off our table top and came back and cleared them twenty minutes later. He never checked back with us after bringing our courses. Fortunately the waiter from the adjacent table helped us. Food: Salad Ok (C)Cheese fondue good (B); Meat fondue poor as most of the meat tasted the same (D). One good sauce out of the six (D+). Chocolate Dessert fondue very good (B+). Price: Insanely high. Odd none of the myriad of positive reviews mentioned the price. The many positive reviews on yelp are baffling. I can only surmise that the people who wrote them are quite happy to pay a huge amount of money to a restaurant for the opportunity of cooking their own food."

  • "We enjoyed our anniversary dinner here with a special we purchased from Living Social. This included all three courses and the meat course included everything on the menu. We had so much food, we ended up taking about half of it home."

  • "I absolutely adore the food here. The pesto cognac cheese fondue is my favorite . . . it's very flavorful and creamy. The spinach salad is superb, and I like to nibble on it throughout the meal. For the meat portion, I don't love having to cook my own food, but my friend was happy to do the grilling, so that worked out fine. If you don't love cooking, order the smallest amount of meat possible. For dessert, I had the milk chocolate with Frangelico. HMMMMMMMMMMMMMM! (A word to the wise . . . if you don't like lasers and techno music, avoid the techno room.)"

  • "Scenic view of antlers, candle lit crystal skulls, andy warhol or similar portraits and portrait of last emperor of China, Piyu....doesn't make the place appetizing. Too dark. Cannot see the food cook They try to fill you up with dry sourdough bread pieces and large salad Meat, though marinaded differently, all tastes the same Vegetables ie. brocolli, mushrooms all were diced/slices to cook better, otherwise it was taking too long. Would have liked more liquer in the dark chocolate frangelico. Rice Krispy balls were stale, cream puffs were still partly frozen"

  • "My husband and I came here to celebrate our 5th year wedding anniversary. Everything was perfect. From making a reservation to the service and the food. Making a reservation here was super easy. The service was outstanding. Our servers explained the menu and how everything worked around there since it was our first time there. The cheese and chocolate fondue were delicious. We had so much fun dipping our foods into the cheese and chocolate! The restaurant's decor was cute, and I love that the restaurant keeps their lighting very low, which sort of creates a very romantic feel to it. Overall, I would definitely recommend La Fondue to my friends and family."

  • "The worst thing I could say about this wonderful restaurant is that I don't care much for the decor, but I think it's meant to emulate the style back in the 60s and 70s, when fondue was so popular. Everything else I loved! The service is wonderful. The menu has a great variety, everything was very fresh and serving sizes generous."

  • "The food was great, although maybe a bit pricey for melted cheese and chocolate. The environment of the Saratoga restaurant is best summed up in three words: gaudy, dark, mysterious. The interior decorator clearly wanted to barrage your eyes with black and gold, showy decorations. The (very) minimal lighting is more harmful than beneficial; we were lucky enough to be sat a table with a lamp this time. Overall, good food that will get you full, great service, wide selection, fun."

  • "Great place with a completely unique dinner experiance; the cooperative cooking effort is a great way for an intimate first date or a great social experiance with friends. Salads are excellent, eat two bites then stop - you will need the room for the rest of the meal. Main course has many styles - we like grilling the best and some truely exotic meats are available - even if we completely forgot which was which Star of the show is chocolate Fondu for dessert Staff are helpful and friendly and seem genuinely interested making sure you have a good time."

  • "Salads are always great but don't get too full. Main entree is ok.. the cooking part is a little bit too much work for my liking but it's fun with a group and the dipping sauces are great. The dessert is always my favorite and the chocolates were to die for.. Love this place for special occassions."

  • "I have been going to La Fondue for years and while the quality of the food is excellent, it just seems like the portions are getting smaller & smaller."

  • "Our server Mike was super friendly and attentive. In addition to our regular server, the other employees checked in on us and had great attitudes too. :) I was already full before we got to the chocolate fondue."

  • "Have gone multiple times, food was delicious as always but the portions seem to have gotten smaller for everything and now there are caps on the amount of dessert you get with your chocolate :( never use to charge for extra goodies! Still one of my favorite places though"

  • "We visited for a celebration on 7/11 for a 5:45 PM res. for 2. There was an accident on 85, so I called at 5:25 to let them know we were hoping to arrive at 6 PM due to traffic. The hostess said that it was not a problem at all & that they would not give our table away. We arrived at the hostess stand at 6:04 PM to find the restaurant not very busy, & the computer screen with a LOT of blocked availability. The hostess started to grab our menus for our normal table, but the manager came over and told her no. He looked at us & said "Since you're late, we gave your table away & you'll have to sit outside." I explained, & he refused to listen/budge. TERRIBLE manager; we had to sit at a table on slanted ground uncomfortably."

  • "We go to La Fondue every year at least once for our anniversary dinner. We have been going more frequently the last few years as there have been a lot of Groupons. We always enjoy going to La Fondue. Each time, we get a new idea on how to cook or eat our food. Delicious! Thank you, La Fondue for always providing such a great experience."

  • "I wanted to take my best friend out for a special birthday dinner so I chose La Fondue, the most unique restaurant in the area. We starved ourselves all day but still couldn't come close to finishing all of the delicious courses. I always forget how much I love this place. The food is delicious, the atmosphere is energetic but private at the same time. You can see and feel the energy without hearing everyone's conversations. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable, attentive and they encourage you to take your time and enjoy your experience. Oh and forget about the wine, this place offers the best cocktails in town."

  • "We have been here many times, generally for a special occasion. Not much has changed recently, but there's no need. Service is always excellent, and if you enjoy fondue, this is the place to go in the San Jose area."

  • "We chose la fondue for our 1 year anniversary since neither of us had been before and had heard excellent reviews of the place our reservation was at 815 we got there early about 730 and was told we would be seated till our 815 reservation... no problem! So we waited only to see walk ins show up and be put on the list for about the same time 815 shows up and the walk ins were seated before we were and we were not seated until 840 much after our reservation we even discussed leaving and going to applebees were we knew we wouldn't have to wait! How romantic...however wanting the day to be special we decided to wait after we were sat our expierence turned around for the best."

  • "We really enjoyed the night. The atmosphere is very interesting, conducive to quiet elegance yet interesting enough to spark conversation re the accoutrements. The food is very good but the fun is in the experience of cooking your own food, taking your time, and enjoying every morsel. It is fun experience and every nite is an adventure"

  • "We've been to La Fondue countless times. This last time, we experienced the best overall service we've had in a very long time. It appears, once you tell the server you've been before they show limited effort. Although the server on our last visit knew we had been before and were using a Living Social deal, she still had recommendations and checked on us continuously. Unfortunately, numerous times at the end of our meals, we've forgotten our to-go salads and this time, she remembered before we had to. The extra effort was noticeable and very much appreciated. Really was a fun experience."

  • "We walked in the manager was sitting at the front desk &didn't make eye contact. The manager made a point of telling me that making a request for multiple burners was pointless because they don't guarantee those table for parties of 4. I explained that I understood it was a request & not a guarantee but had requested because of severe allergies. He continued to hassle me about it. I didn't see a point at him lecturing me on the request if they were able to full-fill it. Our server and others that assisted were great. The one complaint I have about it is that the portions of Cheese and Chocolate continue to to get smaller and smaller. We feel like the price has increase but the portions have been smaller."

  • "La Fondue was a great fun food experience!!! All the good was delicious and the service was great, the only issues I had was it was too dark inside to see your food cooking, which made it hard to tell if it was done and there was cold air blowing on me the whole time, other than that I had a blast and stuffed mysekf!!!:)"

  • "I love this place! It is a great place to go with a group or on a date and enjoy each other's company with a fun meal. Everything from the salad, to the chocolate, and the service are always great."

  • "Everything was great, the waiter knew EVERYTHING and more, desert was amazing BUT it was soooooooo dark we had to cook with our cell phones. Not a super fun thing to do when u are trying to have a nice evening with friends. Hard to read the menues and cook the food. That's the only complaint. They did bring us extra candles (obviously because the manager didn't was to turn up the light the slightest bit) but it still was too dark."

  • "La Fondue was a fun and exciting new experience. It was Fon due to the exotic meat selection. I tried Kangaroo and Texas Wild Boar for the first time, and enjoyed these specialty meats. I also ate Alligator and it was just as good as the time I ate it before in Louisiana. The pesto Swiss cheese was a perfect start. The dipping sauces were delicious. And the decadent chocolate fondue dessert was irresistible!! Cream puffs, strawberries, and marshmallows are just a few examples of what you dip in the chocolate! Can't wait to go back to this beautiful restaurant!"

  • "Fondue brings back great memories and La Fondue made it all real. The food was wonderful with a lot of options to choose from including scallops, and aligator. The service was the best I've seen in a long time. The entire staff worked as a well oiled machine to keep everything running smoothly and the unfamiliar guests from burning their dinner. I highly recommend this experience."
