La Fonda on MainA Hidden GemGreat service from Andy and great food from the chef made for a great meal at this hidden gem. We highly recommend the shrimp nachos(incredible!),spinach salad(beautiful and delicious),fish tacos(I could drink the green cilantro/avacado side sauce), shrimp enchiladas(full of creamy,well seasoned flavor) and duck tacos. Even the queso was better than average. Chocolate flan was good but could be creamier. Tres cafe is a special post-meal treat (with a nice Mexican "kick" at the bottom of the bowl!). The restaurant is lovely and the patio looks inviting for non-summer-sweltering days. La Fonda is the perfect non-touristy, upscale place to bring out of town guests. They gave us a good table outside; our Greeters were gracious and our waiter was knowledgeable and efficient; and finally the food was well-prepared, delicious and served hot. This was the fourth time that I have dined at La Fonda and each time it was a memorable (in a good way) experience. My guest, who had never dined there, was effusive with her compliments of the restaurant. There are many Tex-Mex restaurants in San Antonio. Also get the queso loaded, its only a dollar more and well worth it. Had the Mole Enchilada's and they were perfect. Not too sweet and with plenty of deep mole' goodness. The presentation was outstanding, no other restaurant in town presents Mexican food this well.

Based on Trip Advisor we went to La Fonda. Beautiful restaurant, server could explain every ingredient on the menu. I do not put Mexican food on my top 5' but if its like this, I will. Outdoor patio very tropical. Had them order a cab as we did not rent a car. The manager saw us waiting and told us to get him if the cab was late. Having set a reservation was of great benefit this trip due to the high number of patrons there.
