Diner Reviews
  • "La Fia is really a gem at Wilmington's LoMa district. Dishes are creative, well-composed and very tasty. The combination of flavors in some dishes is outstanding and feel like explosions in your mouth."

  • "It was my first visit and I was impressed with the innovative menu, good service and reasonable prices. Note: it was restaurant week with fixed price dinners."

  • "Stand-out appetizers - poached salmon and calamari/flounder - salmon beautiful, unique, delicious; calamari light and tasty. Entrees just average - gyro tasty but perhaps too much feta and not enough lamb - came with excellent fries. Cobb salad included sizable chunks of a lovely blue cheese that first looked like chicken - way too intense to eat in one bite as I inadvertently did. Interesting variety of reasonably priced wines. We were seated in the 2-table alcove near the kitchen, which people seem to love or hate - worked for us as a quieter spot than near the table for 14 going strong in the main dining area. All in all - glad to have this highly regarded restaurant making a go of it in Wilmington! We'll return for sure."

  • "We had heard a lot of good things about La Fia and we were anxious to try it. We were not disappointed. Our dinner was one of the best that we've had in Wilmington. My cod came to the table hot and not overcooked, hard to do at most restaurants. We don't come to Wilmington for dinner often but now we have a reason to go."

  • "Best meal I have had in 5 years. Delicious. Every bite of every plate had us oohing and ahhing. We were only sorry the dishes stopped arriving."

  • "La Fia has an extensive dinner menu for Restaurant Week, about 3X the choices of other participating restaurants. Appetizer portions were generous, almost like small plates, and well-prepared, but the duck appetizer was a bit salty. Each of our party of four ordered something different. For the main course, three of us picked the beef short rib, while one chose the cod. The beef was a lean cut, so was a bit dry. We all ordered different desserts, and comments were all positive. The restaurant also includes a bakery as part of the business, and the breads included when we first arrived were all delicious. This is our group's second visit in three months, and we will return again."

  • "I was in town for business, and a colleague recommended La Pia. I'm a major foodie, and as I live in NYC, I have access to some of the best food options anywhere. La Pia could compete with any one of them on any day! The selection was amazing, and it was definitely one of the best meals I've ever had. The service was also great! I can't wait until the next time I'm back in town to visit La Pia again!"

  • "Sadly they were out of one of the starters we wanted. The drink and wine selection were great. Save room for dessert it was the best part of the meal. The decor inside is really cute. I will definitely go back!"

  • "Had a lovely experience, from the food, to the ambience to the service! The beet salad was delicious. The kitchen had no problem cutting a burger as well as an egg and salmon sandwich in half so my guest and I could swap and have "surf and turf" for lunch. Toppings and rolls were fresh and the main protein cooked perfectly. Wine selection was excellent with something for everyone. One guest had a martini which was prepared exactly as she requested. We were seated promptly and everyone was very friendly."

  • "The food was amazing, but if you are looking for portions that compare to the price, you may be disappointed. We did not leave feeling stuffed, but were satisfied. We had a gift certificate, but for a normal date night for us, it would have been a bit expensive."

  • "It was my second time eating there and was a night & day experience from the first time. Food was average at best with tiny portions and very overpriced. Service was poor"

  • "This is our fourth visit and we have been thrilled every time. The wine list is intriguing; the service is impeccable and the food is delicious. No sense saying any more."

  • "Absolutely charming, from the second you walk in to the minute you leave; I am completely smitten! Understated and unpretentious, the focus is on the dining experience - and the care and attention to detail is evident. The service is outstanding (attentive but not intrusive), and the food... dear sweet Lord, the FOOD! This is a true foodie's paradise! As a vegetarian, it's always a challenge for me to go someplace and find suitable dishes that are imaginative in presentation AND flavor; I was delighted to sample several of La Fia's vegetarian offerings and can only report excellence. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anybody, but especially to those for whom the experience of dining out is something to be savored and relished."

  • "The food is very good to excellent. The cooking is ambitious without overreaching or overcomplicating. The wine list is not huge but there is a wide selection of diverse wines at very reasonable prices. It is one of the better wine list in the area. Unfortunately, the service at our last dinner was less than excellent. Our server forgot to place an order for a side. It didn't seem to bother her much at all. There was never an apology. This will not dissuade me from returning. The food and wine are worth it."

  • "Wonderful atmosphere if they decide not to sequester you in a 'back area' with only two tables, where my girlfriend and I were placed. Couple next to us could not have been ruder and stared at us through half of their meal, looking annoyed. I was very irritated with this aspect. Food was good, not outstanding. We enjoyed our appetizers: red snapper seviche and mushroom soup were fresh, the seviche was especially unique. Entrees were adequate. Cobia was good, but everything else on the plate was dry and cold. My girlfriend's pork was done right, but had no flavor. Desserts were sensational (props on the butterscotch pudding), and cocktails were great. Service was good all around. Would try small plates in the future and skip entrees."

  • "This was my first time at this restaurant. Service was great, recommendations for both drink and food were perfect. We ordered quite a few "small plates" and each one was better than the last. I would very highly recommend this restaurant."

  • "We went to La Fia after wanting to for some time. We were seated promptly. A nice, compact menu suggested excellent things to come. We put our order in and were having a nice chat. We did note that we hadn't seen our first course after a fairly long spell. Right about when we wanted to flag the waiter down, the leader in the room came over and said that the kitchen had lost our order and that the first course would be on them. Really excellent way to make things right! Very impressed. The meal was excellent in all dishes. The chef really composed flavors well. All were excellent on their own and blended to make each dish more than the sum of the component flavors. Really happy we went and really impressed with their customer care."

  • "Had a wonderful time With my husband and two teenage sons. We all enjoyed our meals and share a few small plates & desert, delicious!!! We noticed a mixed crowd on Friday evening, groups of friends, couples, varied ages all seeming to enjoy their experience at La Fia!"

  • "We had a fantastic lunch. The menu was full of interesting, approachable items- all of which were excellent. The pheasant foie gras was a particular standout but the salt cod chowder, the croque monsieur, and the potted poached salmon were all equally amazing. Can't wait to return!"

  • "Wonderful food, beautiful presentation, exciting choices, fabulous wine list. There is no other place to go in Wilmington. La Fia is the best. Nothing else comes close. Loved it and can't wait to return!"

  • "I've been to this particular restaurant three times now and love it. La Fia has consistently delivered a pleasurable experience. The decor is rustic and simple; comparable to Terrain at Styers or Talulas garden. In addition to the beautiful setting, the presentation of the dish is just as visually satisfying(not to mention fresh and delicious). It is definitely a small dining area but, for me personally, this just means I better make a reservation to make sure I can get a table! To sum it all up, I am extremely happy to have a fine dining restaurant of this caliber brought to the city of Wilmington and the LoMa area!"

  • "Great place for an open business lunch, tables are close together so conversations are overheard. Service was efficient and timely. We did not feel rushed but we weren't held up either. Food was delicious."

  • "Our first time going to La Fia . Excellent dinner. Soup and salad was delicious followed by a scrumptious entree. Didn't feel overstuffed -just the right amount of food served. Definitely will enjoy again."

  • "Overall we were very happy with our dinner this past weekend. The food was delicious and the service, despite being crowded was very attentive. I wish there were a little more menu options, but that may come with seasonal changes etc. Cheers to the delicious breads too :)."

  • "This is not our first time there, and it will not be our last. The service is impeccable, the atmosphere fun, and the food is amazing. You think the flavors won't work together, yet they do. The duck confit fritters with a sweet glaze was just a mouthful of happiness! Each bite was sweet, salty, crunchy, and savory. Such wonderful flavor profiles. We loved our server and the owner came over and we discussed cheeses and other chefs in the state. Only in Delaware!"

  • "Our first dining experience at LaFia totally exceeded expectations. This chef is a "fine" artist with his craft. Also, if you like Krazy Kats and ambiance of Terrain (yes, the nursery) in an Urban, architectural setting, you will love this. Everything was top-notch. Thank you!"

  • "We went on valentines day and I don't think they were prepared for the volume of people. They offered a two or four course menu and they were out of many of the items. Our waiter was very frazzled the entire evening and again I don't think they were anticipating it being so busy. Our it took roughly 30 minutes for is to get our drink order. We were there about 4 hours in total due to the kitchen being extremely behind. Some of the dishes were better than others. While the food was good, I do not forsee us returning."

  • "This restaurant has a menu that is just the right length. You will find something that you like. Every item that I have seen has been beautifully presented and the ones that I have eaten have been delicious, usually with a slightly unexpected twist. I recommend it."

  • "It took me a while to get here because I heard the food was "ok" - but in my opinion, they were wrong. I was immediately impressed with the decor- reclaimed barn board floors, white tin ceilings and very modern and bright hanging lights from the ceiling...all creating a wonderful chic vintage atmosphere. My lunch friend and I settled for ordering the small plates because we both wanted something from that menu - me the potted salmon and she the tuna crude. Unfortunately for me they were out of the salmon so we settled on the cheese & charcuterie plate, tuna crudo, ricotta cheese and I ordered the cream of mushroom soup (thank you polar vortex!). The soup could have been warmer, but all were delightful! Can't wait to go back for more!"

  • "My GF and I met for lunch on Friday at La Fia. The food and service were outstanding. The ambiance was nice but the tables were so close together that both of us bumped elbows with tables on either side of us while eating. In addition, we tried our best to not hear the business conversations at the table to our right but our table was only 6" away, making that impossible."
