Diner Reviews
  • "Everything we had was memorable. Food is inventive without being weird. Wonderful flavor combinations, beautiful presentations. But....the noise level was almost unbearable. Wood floors, no tablecloths and a tin ceiling. I do not understand why restaurant owners/designers think this is acceptable. You can still have a great vibe with much less noise. Wine by the glass was a rather chintzy pour. And, yes, the neighborhood was a little sketchy leaving at 10pm. Have been for Saturday brunch also; food just as good. Fewer people there that day so noise was not noticeable."

  • "This is our second visit in three weeks. The food was outstanding. Everyone in our party felt the same way. So glad that La Fia came to town!"

  • "Three of us went to La Fia to have a "grazing" dinner....what a wonderful place to do it as all the small plates are tempting and delicious. Two of us have been to La Fia many times and it was the first time for the third diner. It exceeded her expectations. Each dish was perfection, both in plating and taste. It was so much fun for all of us. They have a lovely wine list to compliment the courses...it's a casual restaurant with a warm feel. The hickory smoked scallops, housemade ricotta, asparagus, red snapper ceviche, and smoked haddock plates were fabulous. The entrees we tried that evening included the berkshire pork which we all agreed was sublime. The evening could not have been more perfect with Amanda's top notch service!"

  • "Fantastic food and service - love that the menu is seasonal and fresh. You can't go wrong sharing a bunch of small plates accompanied by a wonderful glass of wine."

  • "We had been hearing about this restaurant for a while now. (Tried to get reservations for seven of us a few weeks ago for my parents 60th anniversary but that didn't work out.) The food including the cocktails (Spring Garden and the Bourbon Smash) were sublime. We started with the cheese and meat board; two words, bacon jam! I had the black cod and my husband had the Berkshire pork tenderloin for entrees. Both were amazingly good. We split the espresso mousse for dessert and between the two of us could not finish it even though it was amazingly good. Food was tasty and rich. Atmosphere was charming and the service was perfect. We will be back to try other dishes!"

  • "The menu portions were small and, considering the quality and quantity served, overpriced. A la carte accompaniments were also highly priced for the quantity. Nice wine selection and exceptional desserts."

  • "Went for lunch and took a friend because I had been there before for lunch and loved it. The was no crowd and we were seated quickly. We both started with the mushroom soup. It was quite good with lots of mushroom flavor and a nice consistency. I rarely salt my food, but my friend and I both thought that the soup could a have used some during preparation. I ordered a rare burger on a whole grain bun. I received a burger on a regular bun and I told my server who proceeded to bring out a whole grain bun so that I could move my burger to the right bun. He should have taken it back to the kitchen for this. I also pointed out that it was well-done and not rare. So after a wait I received my quite delicious rare cheeseburger."

  • "We were in Wilmington for a day and I happened to choose this restaurant based on reviews. I'm glad we did!! It is a quaint little restaurant on Market ave., so reservations are a must especially on weekends! After trying the inventive cocktails, homemade rolls, and extremely fresh salads....we were allready having the discussion of this place being in our top 5 dining experiences thus far! Every time we took a bite we closed our eyes to take in the amazing flavors in each dish! Definitely a must try if you are in the area...you won't be disappointed!! BTW....the lamb and halibut entrees were remarkable!!"

  • "This was our first visit here, given the difficulty in getting reservations for dinner heretofore. We will definitely be back. The food was absolutely wonderful. The service was attentive but unobtrusive. Great addition to the Wilmington dining scene!"

  • "Went to Woodberry Kitchen in Baltimore for my birthday....why didn't I go to La Fia? We started with the Ceviche and two Manhattans. Perfect. The crab gazpacho was delicious, but the grilled asparagus...major hit. Took it to the next level with the parmesan sauce, prosciutto and sunny side up quail egg w/crispy onions..ummmm. THEN we tried the new summer appetizer...amazing...hickory smoked scallop, royal trumpet mushrooms, white grapes in an ice wine vinegar...supple, sweet, smokey goodness. Main courses were both incredible...how do they maximize every flavor? The wild halibut and duo of beef were wonderful. Capping off the dinner with a caramel semi freddo with stone fruit gelee and compote with the most perfect Vin Santo. bliss....."

  • "3 meals at LaFia and all have been excellent. This last one in fact was the best. It was our anniversary and we wanted someplace special. They gave us Proseco on the house, which was a very nice touch. The lamb was superb but the duck was also wonderful. We'll be back..."

  • "Second lunch visit at La Fia. For many years, I had trouble finding a really good lunch spot beyond old standbys like the Green Room and Deep Blue. La Fia is a step up, with great choices and ingredients. I'm not downtown for dinner, but am told it is a great evening selection as well. Our table had the cobb salad. On my last visit, I enjoyed a very good cheese plate as well. You can't really go wrong here. I was a huge fan of Django in Philadelphia...and always enjoy dining in a Sikora restaurant."

  • "No kids for the week, so we got a last minute reservation, which in and if itself was a surprise. Expectations were very high given all the raves we had heard from friends and family. Yet...our experience exceeded those lofty expectations. Perfect mix of delicious food with fast friendly service. Simply awesome."

  • "Our favorite restaurant get better? Go for brunch! We love to go to La Fia on Friday nights when I get off the train coming back from DC. It's a fabulous place and way to unwind, the beverages are always perfect and the food exquisitely executed. Pick a dish...any one and & u will be delighted. Finally got there for brunch...the KS mushroom soup...like none other and this is mushroom world. Not saying another word! The spring green salad...get out of here!! How can you make a simple green salad so fabulous. We were fighting over the last bites...spring peas, garbanzo beans, baby asparagus, SOFT boiled egg...buttermilk dsg. The benedict on what?? Their fab gougeres and the crabcake on a housemade english muffin...stop it! Amazing!"

  • "Took NY foodie clients to dinner. Great dinner. Black cod was done to perfection. The wine list is a bit eclectic, but found an awesome Pinot. This may be the best serious restaurant in Wilmington, but its done in an unpretentious and laid back style. Bravo1"

  • "We had read the reviews recently about long wait times and sketchy service, food that was sub-par and basically just being underwhelemed. I wonder if the people who wrote those reviews dined at the same restaurant we did. The food was inventive and comforting while being sophisticated and inviting. The staff were MORE than helpful. My friend ordered a glass of wine, but wasn't really excited about it. Our waitress brought out 4 more tasting sized glasses until we found one that she was in the mood for. The food was divine. We ordered the crispy duck confit croquette, hickory smoked scallops, pan seared black cod, roasted beets and savory smashed potatoes. Each was absolutely wonderful - and if you go, there's not one I wouldn't recommend."

  • "Although the service was slow, our waiter was friendly. The appetizer which my son and husband shared, was the crispy duck confit croquette with shaved radishes. My salad of kale and baby greens with a lovely creamy dressing was delicious, but ridiculously small, devoured in four tiny bites. The arrival of the entrees was delayed, but It was well worth the wait. The chicken breast was divine with toasted pecans and a smoky pork flavor, sprinkled with black eyed peas. Our son had the lamb with spinach and feta stuffed ravioli as its garnish. The black cod was excellent, with asparagus and legumes sitting underneath. We shared the butterscotch pudding for dessert and it was delightful. "

  • "The restaurant is very open on Market St in Wilmington, so you have a nice view of the street. Service is excellent and we even asked to be moved to a table that was not in the middle of the room--and therefore not is the center of the noise. Interesting tastes and wonderful presentation. A nice addition to the dining options in the city. "

  • "This, our third dinner at La Fia, fully realised the potential we'd seen in previous meals when the interesting and well-conceived menu was let down by lapses in the kitchen. Our lamb, chicken, and gnocchi entrees were perfectly prepared and flavored. The imaginative side of vegetable bread pudding featuring H.G. Haskell's beans was a fun addition."

  • "Went there for the first time. My wife had a small plate of scallops and I had the halibut.. Both were excellent. The bread that came with the meal was as fresh as I ever had - excellent too. Our waiter Jon was first class. Made the evening better. The decor was OK. Meal was a bit pricey, but if you're looking for excellent food, this is a good place."

  • "Some people won't venture into downtown Wilmington. Too bad - they'll miss an excellent dining experience. La Fia has an intimate dining room and a wonderful wait staff. The course selections were varied and delicious. My dining partner and I shared the first course sea scallops and second course halibut and found both satisfying. We're not cheap - just not into stuffing ourselves at dinner. I would confidently recommend La Fia to anyone. The food was interesting, well prepared and nicely presented. "

  • "Although one of the dishes (duck) was a little sweet for our taste, the other dishes were excellent. The server knew all the menu well and the drinks were interesting. This is our second time at La Fia and we have recommended to two other couples who enjoyed their experience. We will definitely be back."

  • "Before going to a show at the Queen, we embarked on La Fia for a fun dinner party. With a broad spectrum gourmet menu, we couldn't miss. The seafood was spectacular and the entrees were served in a timely manner in a presentation that was very eye-appealing. Everyone in our party of six was satisfied with their dinner choice and dessert was just a fine finish to a great start to a fun evening. The proximity to the Queen and other cultural opportunities downtown is a real treat. La Fia brings food culture back to the area."

  • "Went here to celebrate a special occasion. Started off by having an amazing beer that I can't find in stores. Ate a duck confit app that rivaled the best I've ever had. Ended the night with a lemon dessert that was amazing. Even something as simple as the bread was excellent. Overall, the fantastic food and the friendly service will keep me coming back as a repeat customer."

  • "We are so lucky to have this quality of food in Wilmington. I have always had wonderful service and food there--this is our third or fourth visit. This time the service was only adequate. We were never asked for drink refills (and I'd have wanted one), our server did not give us new plates or silverware with our courses, and the cheese plate, without the meat, should not have been the same price as it was with it. Just my opinion. We do not eat pork, so the cheese plate was skimpy at best. The crackers were oily thin slices of their wonderful bread, toasted. There was way too much oil still on it. 2 slices of fruit-1 of which was inedible--brown and spoiled. The rest of the meal was spectacular, and we can't wait to come back."

  • "This was our second visit to La Fia. The food is superb, the wait staff is friendly with a casual yet presentable appearance. La Fia has become a fast favorite, and is a great addition to downtown Wilmington. We truly hope La Fia succeeds, as more establishments of its type are desperately needed for the revitalization of the city."

  • "I was invited to try La Fia one day for something different. I found tha ambience quite nice and expected a lot from the cozy cafe setting. I was disappointed when one of our entrees couldn't be made to order as there were no avocados in the house. No avocados? They're a staple in fresh preparataion. Worse, our server didn't notify us of the change, but we learned of it upon delivery of the salad. We were still quite pleased wtih the other offerings we chose, including dessert. The restaurant made good on our incomplete salad so we were satisfied wtih thier effort to win our continued business. We will give La Fia another try along the way. "
