  • "Booking process was a nightmare. Ipod only allowed us to book for 6 although there were 7 of us. Despite sending messages - never got a reply. Have to re confirm before 12 noon on the day. Took 5 calls using a UK mobile - expensive! Why is this necessary? Website does not explain the bizarre entry system - through a metal door in a take-away. Our party arrived in two groups and the second lot didn't understand what was happening and were dealt with very rudely by the woman on the door. Once we got over that we enjoyed the experience. The food was good but not as authentic as we are used to from visits to family in Mexico. The service was friendly and efficient and, as everyone has to arrive at the same time, the atmosphere was good. "

  • "After a bit of hassle confirming the booking... email on the day asking to confirm by 12 noon with no phone line connecting (I passed by the taco joint and they were reluctantly really helpful) I had a wonderful evening. Wonderful setting, cheery, professional, engaging servers, who didn't rush us at all. Food was yummy, frozen margaritas worth a try - would def go again and recommend."

  • "The ambience is very cool, I love the kind of secret entrance. The food was toooo muchhhh spicy, that I could barely eat. The chocolate cake dessert was delicious. The music and people was very energetic, nice place. It was my bday, I wish the service ´d be more friendly"

  • "Went there from Sweden to celebrate my birthday, and it was the most awesome night! Good food, good service and we've got the "little extra". I can really recommend this place!"

  • "Getting a reservation was a nightmare but the food was worth the trouble. The restaurant looks like and old diner but after you go inside you are escorted underground to a kind of secluded bar/restaurant. The decoration is incredible and the bar has a great vibe. As for the food the elotes "mexican corn" are a must as well as the carne asada and pork ribs. Another recommendation would be to try their mexican beers, they are very good."

  • "First trip to La Esquina for dinner in the downstairs restaurant, was super excited to finally get a booking! Experience was good, but probably not as outstanding as I hoped. Ambience was lacking a little something and the set up felt a little 'stuffier' / more formalised - has definitely lost some of the cool underground vibe it was known for. Dining staff were friendly, although the greeting staff didn't seem to keen to be working there. Food was great but again some things were a little underwhelming. Tuna tostadas, pork tacos and grilled cheese with plantains were awesome!! YUM!!! Fish and chicken tacos were unfortunately lacking flavour and a little dry and desserts were too oversized. Overall a reasonably good dinner."

  • "Thought this would be a fun place to bring a first time visitor to New York City. While the ambiance and environment/concept is very cool, the food was mediocre at best. Our particular wait person was also surly and unhelpful. Not going back."

  • "Great atmosphere, but the food is only average. Better mexican can be found almost everywhere. Still, a good night out nonetheless."

  • "Yes, getting a reservations is a bit of a hassle, especially when trying to speak with them over the phone, and the scene is a bit too pretentious and hip for my taste, but the food is delicious and the trip down the stairs through the kitchen to the brasserie is lots of fun. When you go get a tequila or mezcal flight along with a beer. The sangrita is an amazing chaser. We loved the tostadas de pulpo and elotes. My husband got the tacos the cochinita pibil, which were great."

  • "The outside of this wonderful establishment is a little deceiving. On arrival it appears to be a fast food/diner however after inquiring we were told to wait at a door and we would be called down to the cave like restaurant below. What an amazing surprise! There were obviously locals in the know waiting to enjoy the authentic delicible morsels on offer. Tapas style dishes were perfect for sharing and allows you to experience the many flavors available."

  • "While entry to restaurant somewhat interesting to find, its worth the wait in the queue. Great drinks, fresh flavoursome original food. A little more heat would make it perfect, overall a must do for anyone travelling to NYC. Very reasonably priced."

  • "This was my second time here I absolutely love it. The food is amazing, in every way, the decor is my favorite, and the service was fantastic. It makes me happy I live in NYC!"

  • "Took my friend from San Fran after a long day touring the city for an 11:30PM reservation... we had an amazing dinner before stepping over to the bar for some margs. and late night dancing. La Esquina provided a unique memory for us that will last a life time."

  • "Finding a table is hard but the wait is totally worthy!! I and my girlfriend had the CEVICHE BLANCO as small plate, the PULPO as tostada, the PESCADO as tacos, and the Adobo BBQ de Puerco as main course...an increasingly tasty experience!! Just one remark: the choice of desserts can be improved... FaberTheItalianGourmet"

  • "This is one of my favorites restaurants in NYC, everytime I visit New York I come to la Esquina! The food is incredible... Soooo good! The music, the staff, I simply love it! I dream about their famous corn on the cob!!"

  • "My visit to La Esquina was surprising since you will never imagine that a little mexican store hides a huge basemente with good music and great food. The concept is very original and different from most places, it was great crossing the kitchen to get to the main reception."

  • "La Esquina was recommended to me by a true New Yorker on my flight into NYC. I was amazed at how extraordinary the whole dining experience was. From the hidden entrance in "The Corner" diner to the man with the clip board at the unmarked door, my dinning adventure began. The food was amazing as was this underground hidden hide away."

  • "Ambient is the best in this restaurant. Food is nice but not magnificent. I´ve tried better tacos in New York and, obviously, chipper. The best tacos are in Chelsea Market (Tacos Nº1)."

  • "There is a bogus exclusivity to this restaurant, first you have to pass the door man, then, even if there is NO ONE in the restaurant, they make you take a long, unneccessary walk around the restaurant through the kitchen, then they make you wait at the bar for 10 minutes! When the waitress makes suggestions before you even look at the menu, she fails to mention that all the condiments that she mentions with dishes cost extra, We spent $20 on extras like salsa, which you assume would be included with chips. Everything we tasted was mediocre, and not particularly tasty. portions are tiny! To me this place is an over-hyped rip off! Avoid unless you are a masochist!"

  • "Food was amazing. We had 11 people so we had to do a prefix menu. The tacos were out of control good. The chicken and steak were flavorful and delectable. I will be back for sure!"

  • "All of the above in an awesome location. We dined with another couple & shared so we could taste it all. Everything was amazing & we took the waitresses recommendations. Cheese dip a must, tostadas a must (chicken & tuna were great), and the pork shoulder divine. Passion fruit margarita cocktail yummy!! Dessert was ok but not as good as everything else & I'm usually a dessert lover. I would have passed it up for more of what we ordered. Book 3 weeks in advance!"

  • "LO ÚNICO MUY DESAGRADABLE ES ESPERAR UN MES PARA TENER UNA RESERVA.LA COMIDA ES AUTÉNTICA Y RIQUÍSIMA , EL AMBIENTE MUY DIVERTIDO AUNQUE RUIDOSO, SIRVEN RÁPIDO Y EFECTIVAMENTE CUANDO EN MI CORTA ESTANCIA QUISE VOLVER ME DIJERON QUE ERA IMPOSIBLE. LO ÚNICO CASI DESAGRADABLE ERA EL PORTERO CON ASPECTO ASIÁTICO POR POCO AMABALE."

  • "Hidden beneath a small taqueria is this magical Mexican food heaven. Great waitress who gave excellent help with both food and tequila, nice bustling ambience and amazing food. Try the street cone and tostadas with octopus and smile all the way home."

  • "The hostess at the downstairs level wasn't nice at all, and prefered people based on her mood. The food was great, as was the waiter and the bus boys. Would come back and just into consideration the attitude of the hostess."
