La Dolce Vita Ristorante reviews from OpenTable diners
  • La Jolla Neighborhood Gem

Very friendly atmosphere and waitstaff. We had a groupon for a fixed price menu dinner for four. Everyone in our party enjoyed their meals. The servings are large, so we had a lot of leftovers, but we always do when we eat a three-course meal! Caprese salad, mixed green salad and creamy tomato basil soup were all delicious (soup not salty, which is always a concern of mine). Chicken and salmon entrees were terrific - the mixed vegetables were cooked perfectly (another pet peeve of mine) and there was just enough pasta on the side to round out the meal, remind you of Italy and ensure your satiety. We boxed two desserts and shared the other two because we just had to try them! :-) This is a great neighborhood gem.

Nice unpretentious spot in the heart of La Jolla with very good Italian food and quick, pleasant service. My pasta fagioli and Fettuccini Bolognese with meatballs and my wife's risotto were all flavorful and the portions generous. You can pay considerably more in La Jolla, and not get better Italian food.

Had a coupon that turned out to require a special menu which substantially diminished the value of the coupon. A bit of a bait & switch.

Service slow with only 2 waiters handling outside/inside. Food unremarkable, portions huge, flavors on the bland side. Tiramisu so soggy, had a lake on my plate. Waiter graciously switched for a cannoli.Cramped indoor dining, outdoor looked roomier.

Pricey with food that didn't feel warranted the cost. The chicken was incredibly over cooked. The bread and olive oil/tomato sauce were fantastic and the service was good!

what a terrific find! we loved this little gem, with a quiet fabulous ambience, great food, good prices, great service etc.. What a pleasure! We passed up on the expensive restaurant on the water for this place, which was in a quaint ally way and looked much like a european walkway. WOW! YUMMY...

I wish we would've found this restaurant from the start of our vacation instead of our last night. Nicest owner, great outdoor area (even inside is nice), homemade house wine, delicious food, reasonable prices, wonderful singers (it was Luigi's bday, so it was extra nice) and great service. We went with our 18 month old on a busy Friday night and the owner, singers, and Luigi were so kind to him. He loved that restaurant as well! We'll def be back when we visit CA again.

  • Highly recommend La Dolce Vita Rist

We were in La Jolla on Sunday and were hungry for italian. We've been to many 5 and 4 star restaurants in La Jolla. We thought we would try La Dolce Vita Ristorante. The service was excellent, waiter very friendly and attentive. Our food was excellent, couldn't have been better. I got the spaghetti bolognese and my husband got the marina. Appetizer soup was tomatoe bisque, very good. Bread and dipping sauce, was to die for. Looks like we found our new little favorite place. It's out of the way and not too fancy, but authentic homemade italian. Hoping to get there for my birthday this month. I would highly recommend it!

Overall, it was nice. My group was seated in a corner, so it felt a bit crowded when the place wasn't that crowded. The 3 in our group who had the special, lobster ravioli, thought it was excellent, but the other 3 who ordered from the menu thought their entree to be ok to good. Their dessert we all tried was good but not great.

What a fun time. An online deal of 4 courses with wine included some lower cost menu items (caprese, small shrimp or calamari ring appetizer, bruschetta, gnocchi, tiramisu). I don't like gnochhi, but this was VERY good, and has changed my opinion. The appetizers were tasty, tangy with dried tomatoes. Service was very good. The highlight was Luigi - a paid Friday night singer right off the boat. Combined with an pianist (electric) and help from some talented volunteer singers (some well-trained) , this turned into a time reminiscent of Italian Family restaurants in Boston--except with outside tables, it was more real! Very friendly, interactive if you want, and I'll be back to try to the regular menu/meat items with my parents in tow.

Started with mozzarella on basil leaf with tomato. Was delicious, especially when placed on a piece of fresh bread along with some sun dried tomato infused olive oil. Didn't need to order any bruschetta -- this was better! Spinach salad was awesome: mix of baby spinach, shavings of cantaloupe and candied walnuts. Great flavor mix, and a great light fresh taste. Pesto linguini with shrimp entree was tasty. Shrimp were roasted perfectly. Pesto sauce was rich and plentiful.

Tucked down a little street filled with tourist gift shops, this restaurant was a great find we were one of only a few groups dining as it was a Tuesday evening on the later side The Food was very good. We had the special of the day Ravioli and Filet dishes and both were excellent. Wine recommended by our server was from a local vineyard and we loved it. Our server was personable, attentive yet not bothersome or pushy. We really enjoyed our experience and would definitely go back.
