Diner Reviews
  • "Great food. I eat out a lot and this is some of the best food I've tasted. However, when I returned home and checked my credit card statement an additional $10. was added to the charge submitted to my credit card company."

  • "Every thing was fine until we were asked to leave because "we were there for four hours". We had a table for seven, a four course dinner with drinks and service was slow. We were waiting for the check to be completed when the hostess came tour table with her request. I understand that we were there for a long time but we were simply enjoying our meal and didn't realize there was a time limit per table. Our 400.00 check was substantial and seemed to authenticate the 4 hours at 100.00 per hour. I am appalled that I even have to justify the time and a very nice evening was discredited by a incompetent woman who has no skill in keeping patrons happy to be at their establishment."

  • "What a great joint. Patio is lovely. Antonio, our waiter was attentaive and yet unobtrusive. Have had better bruschetta, but the veal barolo was excellent. Limited Malbec selection, but the one bottle they offered was good enough to order a second. Music was entertaining but did not hinder conversation. All-in-all a great dining experience."

  • "Great experience from beginning to end. Had a mix up with the reservation I booked via Open Table but the hostess was very kind and accommodating, and seated us right away. Food is phenomenal - fresh, wonderfully flavored, tastefully unique. The starters we had were marinated portobello and also the bruschetta; Cavatelli and Lasagna, and eggplant/chicken dish for dinner; spumoni, cappuccino cheesecake, and chocolate torte for dessert - all very, very delicious and served quickly. Servers were friendly and attentive. We, as well as our guest, thoroughly enjoyed the evening and especially the ambiance. We will all definitely be back soon!"

  • "Very enjoyable visit. Was seated right away on the patio, as I requested. Food was delicious and very reasonable. The only small complaint would be that the waiter never checked on us during our meal. No where to be found in fact. Luckily everything was fine. Just surprised at that. I will definitely be back and highly recommend the place!"

  • "This place had great food. The service was great. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to impress a date and not completely over board by killing you're wallet."

  • "This restaurant is a hidden gem with a hidden outdoor garden for dining. - We greatly enjoyed the ambience. The brunch menu was original and fabulous. Great for going out or a special occasion. Menu was priced reasonably. Valet parking. Parking available on the side street as well. Definitely check this place out!"

  • "This place is a great hidden gem - great patio and bar, excellent service and incredible food. A new favorite place for any adult occasion!"

  • "The outdoor patio is fantastic! The food was amazing. The owner came by our table and bought us after dinner drinks and told us the story of how he started the restaurant. The desserts are to die for!"

  • " A gem one wouldn't expect in this neighborhood. The experience starts with a friendly greeting and continues with an accommodating service staff."

  • "It was our first time trying to LDV. We arrived before the rest of our party and had a cocktail at the outdoor bar. The bartender was friendly and knowledgeable. We were then led to our outdoor table where it took a bit of time before we saw a server. Our food arrived promptly and was delicious but our server seemed to disappear after that. To the point, we had to go to the indoor bar, on our own, to retrieve drinks for the table. The atmosphere outside was delightful. We loved this little gem, just hope for improved service next time."

  • "Arrived on time and was seated right away at a table outside as requested. The service was great, the food amazing. The setting in the courtyard just makes for a wonderful setting. Everyone should give this restaurant a try. It will be a keeper!"

  • "Wonderful Place. This was the first time we've been there. Don't be put off by it's immediate surroundings, just use valet and prepare yourself for a satisfying meal. Evening we destroyed by waiting over 15 minutes for our check AFTER we told Chris our waiter that we had DSO tickets that we needed to leave for. We literally had to chase him down in the bar in order to pay."

  • "My experience was all that I expected and more! The service was the great, the food was seasoned just right and the mimosa was perfect! The restroom was clean, spacious for a public restroom and up to date. I am looking forward to going back. Oh I'm not big on sweets but their desserts are amazing. I tried 3 of them."

  • "La Dolce Vita is a hidden gem in the middle of Detroit. I hadn't been there in several years and didn't remember much other than the beautiful outdoor space. I was pleasantly surprised. The food, wine, service and ambience was excellent. The rosemary lamb chops were to die for and the creme brulee was fabulous. It's a great place to relax and enjoy a beautiful summer evening! "

  • "Wonderful food, service and ambiance. Especially likes the live music. A must do for Italian. Loved the seafood ceviche, vegetarian lasagna, and seafood with linguini."

  • "Extremely disappointed at small helping of salmon hash for brunch @ $13.95 and not even a piece of toast to accompany it. We were not offered a lunch menu (didn't know it was available) and it would have been much more substantial at a comparable price. We ended up ordering the French toast to supplement the skimpy hash orders. "

  • "While I've been to lDV before, this particular experience was a bit underwhelming. We were seated outside and while the weather was pleasant, the band took more than an hour to set up and we were unable to experience them prior to leaving. My husband had the eggs sardou and I had the quiche. We both shared crêpes with mascarpone as a starter. The quiche was abysmal-simultaneously dry and greasy, with no flavor to speak of. The crêpes were better, but could've used more fruit supplementation rather than just a simple garnish. My husband enjoyed his dish - I've had eggs sardou here before and they really are one of the hits of their menu. It's a good destination for outdoor dining and for brunch - just don't order the quiche!"

  • "I had a co-worker recommend La Dolce Vita for a place I could take my mother for Brunch. I am so glad I decided to go! The food was amazing, great live music, beautiful setting, and great service. Not to mention bottomless mimosas! I would go again for sure. "

  • "This was my first time at this restuarant--but won't be my last! It is hard to find as there is not a big lit up sign out front. I had their signature lasagne and is was to die for--still dreaming about it! We ordered some drinks at the bar before being seated and they were potent--only needed one drink for the whole night. The female red headed bar tender was friendly and makes a killer cosmo. Our waiter was effficient and did not disturb our chatter and allowed our party of 6 to linger aftet the meal. It was a very pleasant evening."

  • "My experience was wonderful!!! The service was great, the food was very good, and those mamosa's--wow! The atmosphere was fun because we even started chatting with the patrons next to us who were fun and friendly. Wonderful experience, and I would definitely come back!"

  • "My sister and I met for dinner and shared two entrees - the twin filet medallions and the penne chicken pasta with a cream sauce. Both were delicious! Our waiter was excellent and attentive and split the meals for us on separate plates without us asking - we thought this was nice. He was knowledgable, friendly, and not pushy. It was somewhat busy but they didn't need our table so we sat for 3 hours and our waiter didn't mind. The ambience is great - quaint, cozy, a little bit old fashioned. I can't wait to go back when the patio is open. Valet men were very nice, too. This is a hidden gem. "

  • "A place that I didn't know existed, hidden away on a busy street! What a find! The people who work there and the food were the bomb!! I would recommend this place to anybody and everybody!! I will most definitely be a returning customer. Thank you for the experience!!"

  • "I am from a large Italian family and just spent a month in the country. Being at La Dolce Vita was like being back in Italy! The food was amazing and the energy in the restaurant was great. It was difficult to find at first but that made the whole experience even better. It was a diamond in the rough! The only complaint I have was our service. I watched our server interact with other tables of patrons older than my friend and I (we are both in our mid-20s). He was funny, friendly, and very energetic. However, at our table his demeanor changed. He visited our table less and was much shorter with us. I assume this was due to our age but it still dampened the experience a bit. Despite this, I would go to this restaurant again and again!!"

  • "I've dined at La Dolce Vita multiple times - Sunday brunch, romantic dinners, and even have dropped in for a drink and snack on occasion. Normally the food, ambiance (I.e. Great musicians), and service is wonderful...however , the last time we dined for Detroit Restaurant week we had horrible service and the food was just so so. We received our appetizer before our wine and upon arriving we were asked if we wanted bread which didn't arrive until our main course arrived. I also mentioned a dietary allergy which was acknowledge but not upheld. If you haven't dined here, I highly recommend going given the unique location and ambiance. But there are fabulous Detroit restaurants scattered throughout the city- I'll think twice before returning!"

  • "My husband and I visited LDV during restaurant week and will definitely be back. The food was delicious -- he had veal and I had the shrimp and scallop ravioli. Both were very good. We had the lobster claw and cranberry, spinach salad for starters and finished the meal with homemade bumpy cake (the favorite, by far) and a cannoli. The bumpy cake is a must, incredible! The server was extremely helpful and courteous and Valet parking was nice considering the surrounding area. Seating is snug - other guests are very close so it's not ideal for intimate conversations. The musician was also amazing, unique voice and very entertaining. Overall, wonderful experience and we are looking forward to going back soon!"

  • "I love the relaxed feel of this place – like a comfortable dining room in a friends home. I definitely would return to try more dishes. The artichoke appetizer was delicious as was my spinach lasagna with bechamel sauce. The entire table was happy with their dishes. Our waitperson, Renee, was outstanding. Although, I have to say the service was too fast. We wanted to relax and take our time a little more. And if you start looking at the ceiling tiles...well, don't. But I do intend to go back and try brunch. OH! $5 valet. Not crazy about that."

  • "Finding LDV for the first time works best with a lookout. It actually is easier at night as the blue LDV sign is easier to see. Swing around back and it looks like you would expect the front of the restaurant to look like. The only annoying part of the evening, a wobbly table. We figured out how to work with it and the waiter made a small attempt to fix but never really got it right. The food was excellent and was what was expected and presented well. Served a little quick though we were not rushed They have a fantastic looking bar - getting there early for a drink at the bar would be worth the trip. I'll definitely return when the weather is nicer as the patio dining area, which was in my view all night, looks great."

  • "We did not realize it was restaurant week but tried the special menu. It was a great value at $30 for a three course meal. The food was very good but not excellent. We would definitely go to LDV again and try the regular menu. The ambience is nice. Service was very good. "

  • "We've only been to LDV 3 times and each time we felt like it was the first time. Each time was different, first time in the summer on the gorgeous hidden patio, another for my mom's birthday indoors when it was 10 deg outside, and then just the other night. Always amazing food, good service and great ambiance. Hidden gem!"

  • "If you are looking for a spot no one would suspect in Detroit, LDV is the place. Somewhat of a safe-house from an bygone era. Nestled in the Palmer Park North Woodward corridor sits the charming restaurant with a wonderful summertime courtyard and ambiance that can charm the best of them. The ceasar, made table side is excellent. The Italian fare matches the ambiance. Service is attentive but not intrusive from the valet to the bus person. It is a must for the Detroit visitor."
