We used to love going to La Dolce Vita but our last two visits have been very disappointing. In our most recent experience, I should have known I was in trouble when we saw that we were the only guests in the restaurant. By the end of our meal, only two other tables had been seated. Our food was tasteless and poorly presented. My daughter's shrimp and linguini only had 3 small shrimps in it. My pork chop was overdone and tough and had no spices on it. On the plus side, since we were the only guests for a.while, the servers were very attentive. However, our waiter clearly did not know how to react when we complained about our food. Sadly, we have now marked this restaurant off our neighborhood favorites list..

Discover the hidden gem of Italian cuisine in Hoover. LaDolce Vita is a great place to takervyour significant other on a quiet date. The food, staff, and price points are unpretentious. My dining experience was wonderful, my salad was fresh and the spaghetti and meatballs wer great. A great little slice of Italy in Hoover.

Four of us arrived for dinner on Valentines and our table for our 7:15 reservation was ready almost immediately. The hostess presented roses to the ladies which was a nice touch considering the special day. Our waiter shared his thoughts on the menu items and was able to answer questions from our group. Two of the group ordered the ‘Pasta Bolognese’ and two ordered the ‘Chicken Marsala’. The Bolognese was the better of the two dishes as the Marsala didn’t have quite enough sauce and the chicken seemed a touch overcooked. Overall the meal was good and the ambience was nice for the four of us to talk and enjoy the food. We will visit again in the future.

We were seated at a table for two that had been awkwardly wedged between two other tables that would seat four in the bar area. Our waitress was actually the bartender. She was very pleasant but service was poor. The food was sub par at best. We received a house salad that was swimming in so much dressing that it was inedible. I had ordered the Fettuccine Alfredo with chicken. The sauce had zero flavor and the chicken had the consistency of rubber. The other food ordered was the Chicken Parmesan. This dish was nothing special. It was so coated in sauce there was no hope in tasting anything else. Our reservations were at 6:30 and they had run out of bread?! Very disappointed in how this restaurant has gone down hill. Can't recommend

This was a disappointment as the food was very good but the service was horrible. They sat us down and it took 10 minutes for someone to come back for our drink order. We ordered drinks and nothing came and after 15 minutes we had to remind them about the drinks. Ordered two appetizers and one came in 20 minutes and the other one came in 40. They were out of bread and when we asked if the main course would take us as long as the appetizers the response was rude. All our waitress was worried about was how the slow food service was going to effect her tips. When we received our bill they had charged us for a bottle of wine instead of a glass.

This restaurant used to be better. Music a little too loud. Food good, but not great. Price is reasonably. Atmosphere was lacking. My friend had Eggplant Parmesan. Said it was OK; it was drowned in too much tomato sauce. He wanted to taste the eggplant. I had the Salmon Picatta which I thought was very good. The two other dishes at the table were the lobster mac and cheese and the chicken marsala.

Food is great. I have been coming to the restaurant for several years. Lately, management is awful. A lot of the employees were slow and not knowledgable about the menu. I called to inquire about a change to my reservation I was treated rudely and without accommodation. We made the choice to come to La Dolce Vita on New Year's Eve. There were many other places we could have gone but didn't. I was not impressed. I was told there was no way to add two more chairs to our table to accommodate out of town guests and when we got there, there were at least 4 empty tables around ours which remained empty the duration of our time there. Thus the restaurant needlessly missed out on additional tips and drink/entree money. We won't be back.

We have dined at La Dolce Vita for many years and this time on this past Saturday night was horrible. Starting with the service, the bread was so gummy and bland, the drinks we ordered were the only thing that was good, but there is NO NEED TO TELL A CUSTOMER that we will have to put your martini in a different glass so you won't get "ripped" off with the lower alcohol content. That does not happen at any other restaurant anywhere!!! Why is that necessary?? The food was bland, veal tough, and the server was confused with our check, we specifically said one check and he brought 2 and then again explained about the martini. I will never go back and I will let my friends know how disappointed we were!!!

We have been a fan of this restaurant for many years. We were disappointed by our recent. The menu was very limited. There were no specials of the day offered. No fresh fish choices which have always been our favorite. Most disappointing was that there was no bruschetta that in the past was complimentary.

This place has really gone down hill since changing hands. There was hardly any customers but we were seated right next to the kitchen. Our waiter who was also the bartender mutilated the cork on our wine bottle and never on e offered to pour any more than the first glass. The veal was way over cooked and tough but the pasta seemed to be under cooked. We were never asked if we wanted dessert but were just given the check. It's just as we'll because we were ready to leave. We will not plan on going back.

Only difference between this and most prior visits was that they were less crowded than usual. So, while I'd normally mark the noise level as "moderate," on this particular night it was quiet. We liked it that way! Based on this visit and something like three prior visits, I'd say that the servers range from "okay" to "excellent" -- our server on this visit (Brock) was EXCELLENT! Attentive, without being intrusive or overbearing. We will definitely be back.

We didn't know any restaurants in the area so we depended on Open Table to find us one. We check the reviews and decided on La Dolce Vita. We asked the server for some suggestions and we decided on the Egg in Purgatory for an appetizer. And for the main course Penne with Sunday Sauce and the Veal Scaloppine. Accompanied by a glass of Pinot and a Cabernet. The dishes were well prepared, the service was excellent and reasonable.

We really enjoyed our dinner, the restaurant was beautifully decorated and had wonderful ambiance. The service was great, very helpful and friendly. We did not have to wait long for our food. We loved the food but thought the price was a little high. Although delicious, our dinner sauces were a little too similar to something you buy in a jar at the grocery store. The salads had too much dressing, very tasty but the lettuce at the bottom was soggy by the time you got it. The desserts were worth the high prices, absolutely out of this world amazing! The white chocolate pudding was the most delicious thing I've ever eaten!

This was our 3rd visit..The only reason I went the third time was to make sure I was being fair..Our bill was 160.00 for two..We did order what the server recommended which was expensive but not so good..It tasted like old lobster, shrimp and some other seafood over oiled pasta..The "freshly baked bread" was cold and served with tons of herbs in a dish with a dash of olive oil...I asked if the bartender knew how to make a lemon drop martini and our server checked with him and said "Sure"..I was served a glass rimmed in sugar, of straight vodka lukewarm with a lemon on the side....I sent it back and asked for a glass of wine.. ..Our server was great, but this is way too much to spend for sub par food..Not going again..

I expected more. Recently had lunch there and had a great experience. So I brought a friend from out of town for dinner, I expected nicer experience than compared to lunch. The restaurant was not busy yet we were seated at a cramped table, that wobbled, in a door way. The waiter while personable could have been any server from Applebee's. Likewise the food could have could from Applebee's. Will I return, not likely though I so badly want to love this place just because of the warmth and experience I had at lunch that one day. I am not a wealthy man so when I spend over a days wages on a special dinner for two I expect it to deliver the extra ordinary.

I have been here many times for lunch, and I was very impressed; however, my recent dinner visit did not meet my expectations. I brought my mom to the restaurant for Mother's Day. My mom got the bolognese and I got the meatball pizza. The bolognese was okay, but my pizza had entirely too much cheese. We also had to pay $8, full price, for a side Ceaser salad, instead of paying a little extra to have it added as a side. Every time I have eaten here at lunch, it was great, but dinner is over priced. The food at lunch has always been wonderful, and I'm not sure why dinner wasn't. I would come back for a more affordable lunch, but I will never return for dinner.

This was our second trip to La Dolce Vita. I read some of the reviews regarding change in ownership and decline in food, etc. but decided to go back. The experience was every bit as good as I remember and I am glad I ignored the reviews. I was delighted to hear that the Filet/Blue Cheese Sauce special was available - that is a great meal. We arrived a little early and the wait to be seated was a little longer than expected - it was almost as if they weren't expecting us even though the restaurant called to confirm that afternoon. Our waiter Brock was very well-informed and delightful. The bread pudding is a must for dessert. All-in-all a very pleasant evening and we already planning our next trip.

We went here for my birthday and the experience wasn't very "happy". We waited 15 minutes for someone to take our drink order and another 15 to actually receive them. One person in our party actually ordered a glass of wine and never received it. If a restaurant is busy, I usually cut the server some slack on that but there were literally maybe 5 other tables of people in the entire restaurant (and at least 3-4 servers). Absolutely no excuse for that. We ordered calamari and crab cakes for appetizers. The crab cakes were $14 and there were 2 VERY small crab cakes on the plate. Totally not worth it. We also ordered pizza as our meal and had to cut it ourselves with a butter knife and no plates to eat it on. Bottom line, we won't be back.

The food and service were very good. The menu has a mix of Italian dishes and other more "American" dishes. It does not offer small plates for children or older persons, but my 95 year old aunt was able to order her entree from the appetizer menu. She loved the crab cakes. My wife and I each ordered veal dishes. Both dishes tasted very good and offered ample servings. We finished up with lemon hello cake. it is an exceptional cake that I highly recommend.
