Diner Reviews
  • "Easy parking, great food. Definitely seasonal and be ready to explore new food. Not your Americanized French food, really authentic. All entries come with the same sides unless specified on the menu. Would go again."

  • "The cost is not $$ but $$$+........very expensive for what you get. The food was OK, but not for the price....Service was excellent, and it is a very charming place with lovely ambiance. I just wish it were a little more affordable, and the food was a little better. It could be 5 star, but I'd give it 3 for now...."

  • "Excellent French cuisine and accommodating to us as we arrived with a 5-month-old infant. The lamb chops were especially good. Martinis were mixed à goût. No negatives. Two-hour free parking is available in the Crescent Apartments garage nearby."

  • "We were attending an event in the neighborhood and simply went online to find a nearby restaurant to grab a meal beforehand. What a delight to find a well-priced, quiet restaurant with excellent food and service! While we were relative strangers to the area, we plan on returning."

  • "We came for lunch with our work team to celebrate a birthday. I had the French onion soup, frog legs and chocolate cheese cake. All were excellent and everyone else had a great meal too. I'll be back with my spouse for dinner. It's real French food in a country French atmosphere. I highly recommend."

  • "We had a wonderful "date night" last Friday. The service was wonderful - the waiter's recommendations for entrees, wine and dessert were all wonderful. It was great to enjoy fine French cuisine in a very comfortable (not stuffy) environment. We have lived in the area for years, but this was our first time dining at Cote D'Or. We will definitely return."

  • "Service and ambience outstanding. Definitely worth a return visit. Onion soup top drawer. Dover sole and chicken cordon bleu well prepared and enjoyed. Swordfish could be improved with more flavor in sauce. My pork chop slightly overdone, but somewhat saved by the wine sauce. Portions nice and served very hot. Overall, we were very pleased with the experience."

  • "Simple, unpretentious French country decor. Unadulterated, authentic French cuisine that is simply delicious. Thank God I found it."

  • "We have been coming here occasionally for several years and have always enjoyed it. They have outstanding French bread, and will sell it by the loaf."

  • "A friend and I did a joint birthday dinner at La Cote D'Or. We thought the wine and food were very good. The service was perfect, the staff friendly but not intrusive."

  • "I've lost track how many times I've eaten here. The food, & service are always impeccable. It is also a fantastic value if you love French food, & do not want to spend an exorbitant amount of money. Finally, Rsymond & his staff are always such gracious hosts. They always follow up & make sure everything is ok."

  • "This has been a favorite for years. Great for lunch or special-occasion dinner. Service at dinner on St Valentine's Day was attentive but not intrusive, and the food was excellent; the Dover sole was a treat and the cassoulet was beautifully seasoned. The Gourmand Cafe dessert was outstanding!"

  • "Fine food and service without the airs of a trendy, snotty, uncomfortable restaurant. It's a rarer pleasure to feel genuinely welcomed by the establishment itself. Coupled with a delicious meal (I must agree with other reviewers—the mushroom soup is outstanding), and you have an excellent (and more and more, a unique) dining experience."

  • "We had dinner at La Cote D'Or to celebrate our Valentine's Day anniversary. The atmosphere was cozy and romantic despite being understandably crowded. The oysters on the half shell were the best we've have in DC. My husband compared them to the oysters he had growing up in New Orleans. The owner was very sweet. He came by to see how we liked the meal and recommended his favorite white wine of which he poured us both a complimentary glass to go with our dessert. All in all a charming, delightful night out at a great neighborhood restaurant."

  • "It is so nice to know there are still little individually owned places like this and it is certainly an authentic French restaurant of a very old fashioned conservative type that every town should have. It would be nice to have some slightly more up to date items on the menu but the choices are ok. The entrees are really expensive though and the food was ok but just not quite good enough for the price. I would certainly recommend it for certain types of occasion - visiting older family e.g."

  • "Valentine's Day dinner was fantastic. The owner and his wife stopped by and were very nice and friendly. They allow you to bring your own wine, but the price is that the owner gets to taste. The Escargot and Cassoulet was wonderful. The Cassoulet is served in a cast iron cassoulet at the table and you dish it out to yourself while keeping the rest of the dish warm. I've been here a few times over the years but intend to go back more often after this experience."

  • "My wife enjoyed a really terrifc dinner here last weekend. The mushroom soup was savory and infused with rich flavor. The Toulouse sausage and lentils was hearty and just the right portion. My wife loved her leek and pototao soup and the tilapia entree. Food, drinks and wine blended for a perfect evening. Raymond even turned up the heat a bit to make sure we were warm and toasty. Tres bon!"

  • "So this dinner was a surprise for my sister's birthday - 7 of us - arrived at 7:30 and they never rushed us. We stayed until 11 PM (1 hour past closing) - caught up in catching up and enjoying the wonderful food! The staff were attentive but did not hover. The owner came and checked in with with us several times -- again -- just to make sure we were happy. It was just perfect."

  • "We were celebrating a birthday dinner with 6 representing 3 generations. To start, onion soup and House salads were simple, but wonderful. For Entre's, 3 had Steak-Frites which was great. Dover Sole and Chicken Cordon Bleu & Quiche were highly rated . all were appropriately seasoned . For desert, 2 had chocolate mousse, which was great. Also, one of got Creme brule which loved and is very picky about Creme Brulle. wonderful choice. Only wrinkle was that one is allergic to seafood and cannot eat french fries if cooked in same oil as seafood. The waiter immediately understood the question and substituted vegetables for Frites. It is too bad they don't have a separate fryer for the seafood as she really missed out on the Frites."

  • "Provided excellent service and a grand meal for our New Year's Eve Owner Raymond attended to every detail. Music provided by pianist was an added surprise"

  • "Your feel welcome when you walk in, a feeling that lasts throughout the meal. Professional servers, a French bistro atmosphere, a well-thought-out menu, seasonal choices, a good wine list, and good desserts make the prices seem reasonable and the experience worth repeating."

  • "Great little French restaurant that is an escape from the typical loud/young Falls Church Arlington scene. Great for a quiet dinner out. Caution to franco philes though - the pomme frites are not authentic!"
    Dined on 1/4/2014
  • "We had the fixed price menu for New Year's Eve dinner. All was quite good with the fish (rockfish) done very well. There were three tiny desserts which were ok - the best was the creme brûlée. Each table received a hat, tiara, and noise makers. That was a nice treat for the festive occasion."
    Dined on 12/31/2013
  • "The pianist and the ambience were the best part. The food was very disappointing except for the escargot and oysters. The waiters were attentive, but I think the kitchen was overwhelmed. Meat and fish were tough and overcooked. The duck was mealy, I did not like the sauce. Overall for such a price, this was a real disappointment. The reservation was for 8:15, we were seated at 8:45 and it took almost an hour before we received our first appetizers."
