La Coquillewe had a great experiencewe had a great experience on father's day. the food was delicious , service was great and ambiance was perfect .
we will go back again.6/16/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic FoodThe food was terrific at La Coquille...it is obvious why they've been around for over 40 years!6/9/2013 12:00:00 AMSpecial Occasions are BetterThis is a real special occasion restaurant. Classy, quiet, excellent food and perfect service. Not overly intrusive, but always on the spot.6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMglad to see it is still aroundAround 35 years ago we went here when we had just moved to the North Shore. Then friends moved to Queens from Chicago and asked us where there was a special place to go for their anniversary. We said La Coquille.. They loved our recommendation but then life got in the way and we never went back. Then the husband retired and after hearing them talk about it for 30 plus years we decided to take them back there as a retirement gift. The food was still good as was the service . The only downside was the noise level. We were glad to see the place hopping.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMThe restaurant was not atThe restaurant was not at all filled at any time we were there Saturday night. When, after 45 minutes the waiter came by to tell us the food would be out very shortly, that the kitchen sometimes gets bogged down, we were sort of surprised. When it was served my husband's duck was too well cooked and the vegetables on my plate were cold. This was one of the bewt places on Long island to celebrate an occasion. The competition is stiff now and they are not meeting it. Sad.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMBetter and betterWe had not been to this venerable French cuisine spot for many years but will now return more often. The service is like being a royal guest. The food was excellent. I had roast duck that was the best I have ever eaten.5/28/2013 12:00:00 AMConsistently perfect. Our dinner was superb. I had two specials for the evening, soft shell crab tempora appetizer and sea scallop entree, both were amazing! The apple crumb tart for dessert is a must on a cold, rainy night. Perfect with an excellent creamy cappuccino.5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Food, Service not that greatGreat food selection. Went with three other friends and we all choose selections from their specials and it was all delicious. The Waiter however rushed us from the moment we walked in. Asking for our drink order before we all sat down. It was an early dinner and restaurant had many open tables, so not sure for the rush. He seemed angry or generally not very pleasant. Otherwise a great place and will definitely return and hope for a more pleasant waiter.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMfor the older crowdThis was my first time at La Coquille, and since it was billed as Modern European, I was expecting a younger crowd and more eclectic food preparations. That being said, I will admit that I was very happy with our dining experience. Every course was
perfectly prepared, the cocktails were excellent and the wine (French Riesling) nicely chilled. We arrived at about 9 o'clock and service was winiding down. Most tables were empty and only a few patrons at the bar. That did not prevent us from getting great service and we were not rushed despite the fact that we were the last to leave. I would recommend this restaurant highly to more mature couples (over 40) and families.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderfulFrom the welcome received by the owner to the attention each employee gives you there is no place that would have made my Mothers Day more special. Mom loved it!5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious! This restaurant is just simply excellent. The food was the best that I have had in a very long time. I had the lemon veal. It was so tender and the sauce was great. I also had a shrimp cocktail that was also great. My mother had escargo and soft shell crabs and she said they were both excellent. The drinks were good too. I staff were very accommodating and very pleasant. It was overall a very good evening and a great dining experience. I highly recommend this restaurant.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMDon't forget the chocolate mousse! We selected La Coquille for a family celebration with many generations attending. Whether 21 or 89 all enjoyed delicious food choices executed for time between courses even on a busy Saturday night! The service was courteous, knowledgeable and friendly. This dining experience gem has withstood the test of time and has updated it's menu to continue to attract and sustain the reputation they so well deserve!5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMFood is really good...butFood is really good...but there never seems to be enough waiters...so the service is not quite up to snuff. Has a tendancy to be very loud, especially when the dining room is full. A bit on the pricey side, so it tends to skew to older diners, but the bar is definitely for the young.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMBest food on the North Shore! $$$$$Too too too loud & noisy! !! Best meal on the North Shore! Good service! Great cosmos! Seated straight away. Really, I come here for the food. This particular Saturday night was raucous. Too loud for me. My voice was raspy after we left because I had to speak loud for my dinner partner to hear me across our small table for two. That being said, I'll deal with it because the food is a 10 plus. Happy 44th anniversary this summer.I've been coming all through out the years.
EXPENSIVE! Be prepared for sticker shock.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMWe've been dining at La CoquilleWe've been dining at La Coquille for years and despite the fact that they recently changed their menu to a broader European fare, we can still get our favorites and they taste as good as ever.4/1/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways count-on-able. ConsistentltAlways count-on-able. Consistentlt good and and excellent place for a quiet business dinner or romantic evening.3/27/2013 12:00:00 AMA place to celebrate! My husband and I have been going to La Coquille for years. We've always celebrated our Anniversary, and other special occasions.
Now, we tend to visit every Friday night. The food is never disappointing, and in recent years, the menu has become more health conscious. It's fresh and delicious. The service is impeccable, albeit traditional service, they never rush you.
The restaurant has also been redecorated on the bar side, and in the smaller back room. It's become more modern. The main dining room, while not offensive, is a bit drab and bland. The table settings are lovely, but the main room could use a designer's touch.
Decor excepted, it is one of our favorite worldly, neighborhood dining establishments.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AM
