Diner Reviews
  • "Our server was Eric, we had him last time. He was great before and even better this time. He was very knowledgable about the entire menu and really gave us a dining experience we would never forget."

  • "Ate outside on a perfect evening, excellent and attentive service, delicious apps and entrees, tasty cocktails, chef even sent out an extra order of fries just because"

  • "My wife and I had dinner at La Coop recently. Everything we ordered was fantastic. The BBQ shrimp were amazing and our server was fantastic as well. Highly recommend to everyone."

  • "Our food was good and interesting, but the service was so poor that it ruined the evening. We were obviously not wanted there and we were made to feel very uncomfortable."

  • "The quality of food has declined since eating here a year and a half ago. The food was tasty, but not as outstanding as first tried."

  • "Table was immediately available upon arrival. Mixed greens salad was excellent. Husband really enjoyed the French Onion soup. I ordered the Steak Frites medium and my husband ordered the Coq au Vin. I saw the same order go to a neighboring table. Their meat was a nicely cut flank steak. My steak looked like an end cap of beef, it was rare and fatty. Duck fat fries were great. Husbands chicken had an overpowered flavor. Service was very good. Mixed review because parts of the meal was fantastic, others not so great."

  • "We finally made it to La Coop and its now one of our local favorites... The food ,service and location are Great.. A must do spot in Louisville's new Nu Lu neighborhood...."

  • "My first glass of wine was flat. They told me well it was only opened yesterday. My second glass was worse. Since it was a celebration I didn't want to make a scene. Make sure you check out the wine."

  • "This was our first visit and we were very pleased with the food and service. We will definitely visit again."

  • "Found this restaurant through trip advisor. Was looking for someplace different, small and close to our hotel. It was a short cab ride but not too expensive. Would definitely go back. One bad point was that they cooked the French onion soup too much and it wasn't the best I have tasted. Then the waitress said she would take it off of the bill but didn't.. :("

  • "The food was delicious! The house salad and the salad with blue cheese ice cream were both good choices. My husband had the scallops which were perfect, and I had the polenta with roasted vegetables. Amazing! Earthy flavors with creamy polenta, yum!"

  • "The Escargot is AMAZING!! The only negative we have is when there are lots of fish specials the restaurant has an open kitchen and it smells VERY strong. So much so, our clothes the next morning still had the odor to it. I would always go back no matter what though. I love the cocktails as well. Scallops are fantastic! (so yes I was part of the problem with the smell since we ordered that ;)"

  • "The highlight of out meal was definitely the bread pudding. It is a must have!"

  • "Very good, all French wines which gives good choices. Restaurant is small and therefore noisy."

  • "I took my husband here for his birthday dinner. It exceeded our expectations. We started off with the special, New Orleans BBQ shrimp. We thoroughly queried our waiter on the preparation of this dish as I'm originally from New Orleans and have had the original. He was quite receptive to our interrogations and very knowledgeable about the dish. We could not have been more pleased with the dish. While it was a somewhat less buttery than the original, it was almost better. My husband ordered the steak and frites for his entree and I ordered the mussels. Both were amazing...especially the frites. They were so crispy and satisfying. We shared the pistachio creme brulee for dessert and it was delicious. We will be back."

  • "Far too noisy, ordinary seats & seating arrangements. Overpriced. Can't recommend to friends & do not plan to return. Wait staff were super however!"

  • "We had an outstanding dining experience. We shared 5 appetizers, all of which were eaten with relish. The flatbread and the crab cakes were the most remarked about, although everything was delicious. Everyone ordered the salad with the blue cheese ice cream. We all agreed that it was the best salad we had ever eaten. It is worth the trip here just for that salad. We moved on to desserts. The crepes and the banana bread pudding that we shared were scrumptious. The wine list offered a nice variety of choices. Our server was excellent, personable and attentive. The restaurant is inviting, but a bit crowded and noisy- no surprise when you serve such great food. Nevertheless we all had a lovely time, and we will definitely return. "

  • "The scallop dinner had to be returned because it arrived cold. However, the kitchen handled it well, and sent another one out promptly. The salads and desserts were exceptional. The entrees were so so. Lovely ambiance."

  • "Excellent experience! The food, the beverages and the service were all outstanding."

  • "Love La Coop but the acoustics are really bad; the noise level is pretty high given the relatively small number of tables and guests."

  • "We had been told that La Coop was one of the best restaurants in town, so I went in with high expectations. In while the food in general was very good, I did not think that there was anything exceptional about it. If the food were lower priced for that quality and I would consider going back."

  • "I enjoyed my recent dinner at La Coop. From appetizer to dessert all was as it should be. High points included the salad with that interesting and extremely tasty dollop of blue cheese ice cream on top and the scallops cooked to heavenly perfection. I would also like to recommend a drink that I don't remember by name, but will not soon forget. It contained lavender gin and honey? honey flavored liquor? All I know is it tasted like a summer afternoon and was delightful."

  • "Everything about the meal was great! We had drinks from the bar, salads, I had the streak frites and she had the coq a vin. All perfect! "

  • "Our reservation was at 6:45, but we went early intending to share a walking tour of NuLu shops with our out of town company. As it turns out, the weather was cold and windy so when was arrived at 5:30, we asked if we could be seated. The hostess was more than accommodating and we were given a table right away. Food & service were just lovely. Annette (or Aniete, unsure of spelling) was charming. This is a favorite restaurant of ours. "

  • "Visiting Louisville and this place came highly recommended and lived up to the hype. Cocktails and food were inventive without being overwhelming and the prices were more than reasonable. Would love to go back here again. "

  • "This place is a great example of great food, crafty cocktails and great ambiance."

  • "We loved the house salad. I ate the Duck, which loved. But my wife did not care for the vegetable pot-pie. This is a cute little urban spot more enjoyable for mature people."

  • "Our evening at La Coop was wonderful, from beginning to end. The cocktails were delicious and service was perfect. Each course was great. The food highlights were the salad with blue cheese ice cream (not to be missed), the scallops and short ribs, both of which melted in our mouths. While it's not a kid destination per se, out two daughters were treated very kindly and their steak frites were delish. "

  • "This was my first time at La Coop. I had been in the space when an earlier attempt at a restaurant was there. La Coop has greatly improved the acoustics and the ambiance. The service was spot on. The bouillabaisse was really wonderful. "

  • "What a great night at La Coop! We had our daughter home from college and my niece in from California for an Oaks Dinner! Loved everything about the evening."

  • "La Coop was a pleasure. The food was excellent accompanied by excellent service and charm. We arrived 45 minutes late during Derby week-end and the staff could have not been more accommodating or welcoming. A perfect start for our Kentucky Derby week-end."

  • "We had sampled a tasting of this amazing restaurant at this year's Bourbon Classic and made it a point to plan to dine there when we returned to the Derby. It was well worth the wait. My favorite was the pecan and pear salad with blue cheese ice cream. The lobster mac and cheese was also incredible. Would highly recommend it. Excellent bourbon list. The only negative comment was it was really loud when the restaurant was full. Only wish the chicken and waffles tasting we had at the Classic had made it to the menu!"

  • "LaCoop was just ok, I have been there twice before and the food was better both times. The chicken dish my lady friend had was barely ok, my hanger was good, but not outstanding. The frittes were very good. The service was good, but again not outstanding."

  • "Perfect place for dinner in NULU. The space may seem small and crowded, but we find it makes for a lively and energetic dinner spot. Tables are not too close, and it's not too noisy for conversation. We started with a selection of cheeses (which came with fabulous fig compote and plenty of grilled crostini). Nice selection of wine on menu and several nice choices for appetizers and entrees. Steak and duck fries very good. Scallops were perfectly prepared. Service was outstanding."

  • "La Coop provides a stellar experience, from the way you are greeted, through the meal, until you leave the restaurant. Service, food, ambiance are all geared to provide you with the ultimate customer experience. The friendly staff is professional, offering full explanations of the day's specials and providing just the right amount of ttention so you never have to look far for assistance - but never feel "over watched". The food and it's presentation compete for your compliments. Presentation looks like artwork, but once you indulge you realize the real art is in the culinary expertise of the chef. I've been at La Coop four times in the last 5 months, and each experience is as good as the last. Highly recommended."
