  • "La Coop provides a stellar experience, from the way you are greeted, through the meal, until you leave the restaurant. Service, food, ambiance are all geared to provide you with the ultimate customer experience. The friendly staff is professional, offering full explanations of the day's specials and providing just the right amount of ttention so you never have to look far for assistance - but never feel "over watched". The food and it's presentation compete for your compliments. Presentation looks like artwork, but once you indulge you realize the real art is in the culinary expertise of the chef. I've been at La Coop four times in the last 5 months, and each experience is as good as the last. Highly recommended."

  • "I think the title says it all but the food was great, the service was great. We had a great time. "

  • "Perfect place for dinner in NULU. The space may seem small and crowded, but we find it makes for a lively and energetic dinner spot. Tables are not too close, and it's not too noisy for conversation. We started with a selection of cheeses (which came with fabulous fig compote and plenty of grilled crostini). Nice selection of wine on menu and several nice choices for appetizers and entrees. Steak and duck fries very good. Scallops were perfectly prepared. Service was outstanding."

  • "This place resembles a cute little French Bistro but that is about the most of its allure. The seating was very crowded and it was quite loud. The food was alright at best. I got the bone marrow onion soup and the marrow was not properly cooked. My fiancé got the steak and fries and his steak was very chewy. Overall, our experience at this restaurant was mediocre. For the price point of this restaurant I would go somewhere else where I can have a nice, quieter, intimate dinner. We will probably not revisit this restaurant."

  • "The Hangar steak and fries were outstanding and cooked perfectly. The bananas foster bread pudding is the best dessert in Louisville that I have tried!"

  • "We go to La Coop fairly regularly and get escargot and french onion soup. Add a glass of champaign and a glass of bordeau repectively, and you're living! Always great and open until late on Fri and Sat. Highly recommend."

  • "Our server Madeline was very attentive and on spot. We ordered cocktails, took a few moments to look over the menu. We were never rushed into making selections and if we asked for advice on the food Madeline was quick to give knowledgable input. We had a few of the delicious appetizers, including escargot and the country pate both of which were delicious. We had a couple of interesting salads, one with blue cheese ice cream, it was to die for! As for the entrees, I think my favorite was the marksbury chicken with the popcorn crusted scallops being a close second. The service was exceptional even though the noise did get a touch loud at times it was an overall great experience."

  • "extremely noisy when we first arrived, couldn't eat here all the time, would have to refinance my house, very very pricey, food good but expensive! for what you get, very small confines and I am a big man, felt constricted not very comfortable, felt like the walls were closing in, the food was very good, but not overly abundant, 20 bucks for pasta, left still hungry, told staff we were there for a birthday and did not recieve any recognition for it, no free dessert, 12 dollar banana foster bread pudding?"

  • "La Coop for the most part succeeds at providing a bistro atmosphere. The room is charming...and a bit tight...but that's the way it is in Paris at least....people are much closer to one another... The close comfort also generates noise. Our server was young, somewhat perfunctory, but not alt all rude or brusque. Items were brought to the table with dispatch. The pate we ordered as an appetizer was quite flavorful, on the nice toasts accompanied by a cranberry relish and a wonderfully spicy Dijon mustard. My wife had a scallop dish.......I , a short rib burger. Wines were well matched and at modest cost. All in all, a satisfying evening and meal.. Very unpretentious place that puts the emphasis where it belongs...mainly on the plate."

  • "Visited for my birthday recently and left a happy girl. Crab cakes were worth every penny - stuffed full of big chunks of crab meat. The pecan salad is so unique with blue cheese ice cream on top! A must try dish. I had the short ribs with grits and husband picked the hanger steak and fries. Both were decadent and flavorful. This is definitely the kind of food you crave! We finished with the bread pudding - the best I've ever had - and pot de creme. We were in on a particularly quiet night due to some storms and were pleased with how cozy it was and the friendly service. Lots of great options for wine lovers."

  • "From the moment we walked in the door, we felt we were entering a beautiful bistro in Paris. The food never ceased to delight! The mussels were to die for and continued to talk about them the next day. The cheese course, salad with bourbon pecans and the cream brulee were all delightful! Love this place!"

  • "Loved the look, ambience for a couple's dinner. All the dishes were delicious and attractive. Something new to try also. I love a Sazerac and thought the Vieux Carre cocktail looked similar so tried that and it was similar and very, very good. My husband and I will definitely return and recommend the wonderful place!"

  • "I didn't check "Vibrant Bar Scene" but only because La Coop is a restaurant first, a bar second. That said, they are dedicated to making a proper cocktail and they achieve that extremely well. The bartender on the night we went was April and she was a great mixer, very approachable and so much fun to hang out with we decided to eat at the bar rather than moving to our table. Beyond the drinks, the food was outstanding! Definitely recommend."

  • "LaCoop rocks! I love everything about this restaurant. I called the afternoon of my reservation to talk with Aaron (their sommelier) I wanted his help selecting a wine and having it decanted before I arrived. I don't know French wine, so I talked about what I wanted in wine, what I liked, what texture/taste I wanted. Aaron described a wine to me that he thought would work. I asked him about ratings from Parker or Spectator. He did not have them. I asked for him to send me a pic of the label to my iPhone so I could look it up. After I read about the wine, I agreed with him and asked for it be ready for our 7:30 reservation. The wine was perfect! The food is always amazing and that night was a special menu. Special it was! Great!"

  • "This little restaurant has so much potential. The ambience and decor are very quaint. The live guitar music was nice The staff friendly but a little inattentive on service. They appeared somewhat understaffed. Had to request the bread and unfortunately it did not arrive until after finishing our salads. The butter was decoratively displayed but had very little butter taste and apparently had been stored open in a refrigerator and absorbed some unpleasant taste. The biggest disappointment was the food. The menu had a nice variety of quasi French selections. Unfortunately, our selections obviously had been prepared in advance and reheated ala microwave prior to serving. Both the entree and the side dishes were dried out and over cooked."

  • "Wonderful restaurant with good food and service. Beware that it can be very loud and hard to carry on conversations with anyone who has any hearing difficulties."

  • "La Coop is one of those restaurants that defines consistency. This past dining experience was my third with them and each time the experience was flawless door-to-door. The escargot defines tender, the french onion soup (which takes 5 days to make) is the stuff of dreams, and the duck fat fries perfectly crispy. The Pecan salad has a very light, but the blue cheese ice cream makes the salad shine without being too over the top. You cannot go wrong with the Short Rib or the mussels. The broth on the mussels is magic, especially when you can dip your duck fat fries in it. The short rib falls apart with a glance and is possibly the richest dish in memory, easily feeding two. La Coop can do no wrong."

  • "Though we were there for a late dinner, everything - the food, service and ambiance - was excellent. We were not rushed and enjoyed a great meal! We were visiting Louisville, so unfortunately we can't come back every weekend, but we will be back!"

  • "I've been before and was a bit disappointed this time. Everything was mediocre and just so so. Even had to ask for bread. The French press coffee is a winner though. They should bring back the cow au vin And cousselet"

  • "This is my first visit to this restaurant on a weeknight. i found it to be more enjoyable than eating there on the weekend when it is very crowded. During the week, it is more intimate, with less noiseand simply superb! It transported me back to a real Paris bistro."

  • "La Coop has the perfect French bistro feel. It is small, crowded, but well done. The food is second to none. Great cocktails and wine. Yes, it's crowded. But that is part of the charm. It is a small, urban restaurant that provides a Parisian experience in Louisville."

  • "when i found out a few months ago that i could not have wheat or dairy anymore, my little foodie heart was crushed. i feared i'd never be able to enjoy eating out at Louisville's wonderful restaurants again. maybe i'm just an emotional person, but the service we got from aaron & teague (& the whole team, really) brought tears to my eyes. they made sure i had a full dining experience even though i couldn't eat the beautiful bread or the desserts. i had a salad & the amazing, amazing bouillabaisse; my husband had escargot & an insanely amazing lobster risotto. wine by the glass. beautiful evening all the way around."

  • "Went on valentines day and it was romantic. The wine selection was good, the cheese was the best part. My date got the salmon which was extremely well prepared. I got the chicken which was good but not what I had pictured. Will try something else next time. Small restaurant so I wouldn't take a large group. Great for one on one dates."

  • "Wife and I have been meaning to come here for a while but figured it would be outside of our price range. The food was every bit as good as we expected, but the price was much more affordable than we had figured. Amazing dinner top to bottom. Nulu is officially the food capital of Louisville."

  • "Very loud. Tables are too close to the bar and at times people at the bar are practically leaning on you while you eat. Not very pleasant."

  • "Not a place we go regularly but excellent to have a nice little French restaurant in Louisville. Service is very accommodating, ambiance is great for conversation. Generally the food has been good - recommend the mussels for sure. Duck confit is one of our favorite dishes but not a fan of how they prepare it. Decent wine list but the staff could use some training to help with recommendations. Price is on the high side but what we expect for a special evening."

  • "I checked out La Coop's new menu with some friends recently. In addition to the mussels, we also enjoyed the country ham beignets with roasted garlic aioli and Lobster mac n’ cheese as starters. I have always been a fan of the weekly burger special, so I was excited to to find out see it now on the regular menu. The chef's creative additions of Brussels sprouts slaw, pimento cheese and onion jam served with duck fat fries takes it to the next level! The shortribs and grits and mustard salmon were also favorites. The La Coop staff is very knowledgeable about wine and was great in suggesting pairings. They have a really nice wines by the glass program and their bottle program is also very reasonable."

  • "Try the fried green tomatoes - "tomates vertes frites - they were amazing and plentiful to share! I had the escargots - good, but not the best I have ever had. Then had steak frites - classic and delicious, and I had the scallops - different from what is on the menu this night with cippolini onions and brussel sprouts on pureed truffled sweet potatoes - wonderful! They changed the portion to three scallops, and I couldn't eat the third! And don't miss the bananas foster bread pudding, it was a delicious sweet treat to end the evening! We had a lovely sancerre with dinner and a kir to start off. Service was great. This was my second time there and it is a delicious place to go for a low key evening - true bistro style."

  • "Just had a great experience at La Coop this week. This was my first visit, loved the atmosphere, cozy and quaint. Started with a very nice Bordeaux red wine, charcuterie and cheese plates, and the escargot. All were great. Moved on to the green salad with pecans and blue cheese ice cream. Yes, blue cheese ice cream! It wasn't as sweet as traditional ice cream and had a very faint blue cheese flavor. It melted and created a great dressing. A nicely balanced dish that was fun to eat and very unique. I had the monkfish, nicely done and flavorful. Most at the table had the short ribs with creamy grits. Amazing short ribs. Dessert was delicious too. All around a great experience, with wonderful service. I will be coming back!"

  • "While the dining room was very busy and crowded, the service was prompt and excellent. Our meals were served quickly. I was very impressed with the short rib dish. The coffee was an excellent end to a great meal, it was my dessert. The southern take on French food is an excellent concept ."

  • "This was our first visit to La Coop. It certainly ranks up there with Louisville's best. We look forward to returning to sample more of their menu. We shared an appetizer (charcuterie trio), the Travers d'Boeuf (short ribs) and the daily vegetable, and a sweet crepe for dessert. All were excellent!"
