I have eaten at La Cigale for
lunch and this was my first time for dinner, both meals were excellent, the prix fixe is a very good deal and good value for money. It did get a little noisy but that was because the restaurant was full when we left. Overall I great dining experience and will certainly go back again!"

Had the French Onion soup which
was very good. My duck confit however was terrible. The duck, potatoes and onions were far too overcooked as evidenced by my charred potatoes and onions. By far the worst duck confit I've ever had. Then, our incredibly rude waiter harassed us to order desert. I mean HARASSSED. He kept telling us that we didn't spend enough and that we shouldn't be so cheap. He went so far as to get another waiter to try and convince us. When that didn't work, he got the OWNER to try and tempt us. It was absolutely ridiculous and I was incensed. I'm never going back here ever again and if you do go, make sure you "spend enough money" there."

This might not be the best
restaurant in Vancouver but it probably has the best staff. A French restaurant with zero attitude, that's a find. Brigitte has to be the nicest host ever. By the way, their tenderloin is to die for!"

It's not often that I find more
than one entree of interest on a restaurant menu, but at La Cigale, we were spoiled for choices between the regular lunch menu and the specials. But who can resist duck confit, served with a side salad and frites? And it was perfect. Even though the restaurant was very busy, service was prompt and attentive. Will be back!"

Started off great with attentive
and friendly service. As the restaurant got busier, the service became disproportionately slower. We waited over 30 minutes for our desserts and another 20 minutes for our bill. This may have been because we used a LivingSocial coupon. Other tables got noticeably better service as they purchased more items and alcoholic drinks. The food was hit or miss. Fantastic French onion soup. Duck was on the dry side but flavourful. My date had the duck on a previous visit and said it was better before. Appetizers were piping hot but entrees were only warm when it came to our table. Lemon tart and crème brulé were yummy. Large and satisfying portions. Each dessert was big enough for 2 people."

Our dinner experience at La Cigale
started off great, the wait staff were attentive and polite. However, within about 30 mins of us arriving (about the time our mains were ready) the restaurant had filled up and we were ignored, despite being in the center of the room. After getting their attention to bring us the bill we were told the waiter would come right back with the machine and did not return for ~20 mins, although we could see him the whole time. Unfortunately this poor showing at the end ruined it for us."

A few of the dishes were notably
good; a few were unexceptional: the beet salad is a bit of a disappointment, although some may like it. LOVE the fact they have a No Corkage Tuesday. We all found the restaurant a (quite) bit too noisy for our liking but it shows that the place is well regarded; there wasn't a free table the whole time we were there."

Best steak I have had in years and
the sauce for it was unreal. Braised endives were tres bon and both the pea soup (of the day) and the quiche were great. Being Valentine's Day they were a bit too busy at lunch to do anything involving Chef Kevin's amazing pastry! Go there, order a bottle of wine and enjoy life as it should be!"

A warm welcome and excellent
service set the tone for a lovely meal. The shared beet salad was just right,the beef bourguignon with delicious fries and Moroccan lamb shank with couscous took us back to last October in Paris.The lamb wasn't quite as flavourful as our Moroccan restaurant (I loved their raisin,apricot laden lamb) but wonderful nevertheless.With generous servings we could not think about dessert.We snagged the last bottle of Chemin des Olivettes from the Langedoc,a syrah-grenache blend at $40 and it was the perfect accompaniment . The service was faultless despite a near full house on Sat.,Feb15th. We will be back!"

We've been here a few times.the
welcome by Brigitte, the owner, is always appreciated. The room is lovely, cosy in winter and fresh in summer. The typical French food is delicious and plentiful. The restaurant was full when we were there, which made for artful manoeuvres by servers as they carried the chalkboard easel menus between tables, but we love that detail! The noise level with a full house can also be high, but that too is part of the French experience. We will be back!"

Not having been to the bistro, the
menu looked attractive with a lot of more traditional dishes. My first visit was actually great. The duck confit was really moist and flavorful. Service was great. The introduction of food, the extra choices, and the relaxing atmosphere that the servers presented was something to be bragged of. However, on my second visit, food was not as great. The same duck confit was dry and slightly smaller in portion. The overall food served were all lacking a bit of flare and slightly over cooked. But service remained great and very pleasant."

My husband’s boeuf bourgignon was
excellent, and I really enjoyed my salmon a la Basquaise, which was perfectly cooked to medium rare and served on a bed of lentils. For dessert we shared the lemon tart (good, though the crust was a bit of a challenge) and the vanilla creme brule (excellent and definitely large enough to share on its own), The restaurant was fairly quiet when we arrived on a Monday evening but quite lively by the time we left."

I guess I had too high expectation
from them. However, as a often dine-out person, I have been to many french restaurant. I had the pre-fix 3 course. The Appy was a endive, it was bitter and way too much parsley were in my dish. I didn't like it at all. The entree was the Boeuf, it was way too salty I couldn't even finish half of it. The dessert was the Lemon tart, it was nothing spectacular. With the LivingSocial voucher, the price was fair. But I am certainly not going back again paying full price."

The food is to die for. Really
wonderful French bistro fare. We all had fantastic dishes! However for the second time hot beverages were not hot. French press coffee was tepid and another time the tea was lukewarm! At $4 a pot for a Lipton tea bag in a fancy teapot ... Well it is quite disappointing. A quick remedy is loose leaf tea and HOT water!"

Had brunch at La Cigale on a
Sunday. Food was fair, not great, and expensive for what one gets. Service was glacial. Every time the door opened, a freezing cold breeze blew over our table. They provided blankets for your legs, but unless you like huddling under a blanket during your meal, it is a pretty weak solution. Won't be back and would not recommend this restaurant for lunch or brunch, particularly in the winter."

Since summer time this year when
this new French restaurant was opened on busy 4th avenue. Unlucky, we were out on date for our anniversary and the restaurant was quiet busy with at least two large groups. The wine selection for the month was an incredible discover, le Cotes de Nimes is a "most to" try. The menu was promising, the daily special will be my recommendation. Unfortunately the "lapin a la mortared" was too salty and the choux farcie really did't have any specific taste but an excess of salt. The creme brule was a big disappointment, we only taste one spoon and decide to leave it. I am willing to give a try for the brunch or lunch but definitely won;t for a dinner and is a maybe for groups."

We were there for lunch and it
wasn't very crowded so after we ordered we were surprised at how long the food took to come. When it arrived we realized the delay was because everything seems to be made fresh. The food was piping hot and delicious. Best quiche Lorraine we have had. It was worth the wait!"

Onion soup broth was bland and
"thin". Mushroom tart was delicious. Seafood vol au vont was big and tasty. Lemon tart was great. So loud in the room we stopped talking to one another because we had to shout. Would make it a regular as I live in the neighbourhood but the noise level is too high to go with friends and chat while we eat."

We came in @ 7:30 for 6 and had
everyone settled and with a drink by 8:00 - a 7th person also joined us. The setup and start was handled very well. We left at 10:30 - the food took way too long to come out and we had no attention from our server acknowledging this obvious delay - my meal was only "warm" when it hit the table and that was a shame because it was so tasty! The water service was slow to bad - we had to request water on 2 occasions. The deserts were off the dial - a late night americano was super. I like this restaurant - we will come back. However, they can do a better job than we experienced that night. Sure would be nice if they could do something about that entranceway? Very distracting -"

this isn't a classic French bistro. Having been to France many times, I'm baffled as to what a French bistro then ought to look like. Either way, the food is very good and the wait staff enjoyed being there. We found the service just fine. The wine list is a bit light and without a cooler, the red wine was a bit warm. Much the same as La Regalade, the portions are huge - two appies would have done just fine or skip an appetiser and head straight to the main course. We'll be back."

This is my second time at La
Cigale and I was looking forward to a repeat of my first experience. Our waiter was friendly however once he took our order, he ignored us for the rest of the evening. We were friendly to him but he neglected to bring us bread, refill our water or clear away our dishes. The two tables on other side of us received much better attention from him. I don't know if this oversight can be put down to a busy night or being understaffed but it did put a damper on an otherwise pleasant evening."

It was the first time at La Cigale
and my hubby and I loved i! First of all, the servors speak French! 100% French (they speak English too!!). It makes the restaurant authentic! The food was yummy. My hubby had his best halibut ever!! I really felt we were in France for the time of a dinner! L'Ambiance was good! We will be back for another date for sure (not a restaurant for kids I think) Merci!"

We enjoyed the complementary
cheese straws, beet salad, pork tenderloin and duck confit with pommes de terre Salardaises (delicious, though I probably exceeded my fat requirement for at least a week). The atmosphere was welcoming and lively on a busy Sunday evening, and service was good."
