Husband and wife owners, Massimiliano Conti and Lorella Degan work together to take you to a culinary journey through the Italian island of Sardinia. The chef is committed to use the freshest and the most authentic ingredients from his native island, resulting in pungent, lively, flavorful food. The all Italian wine list,170 labels selection represent every Region with more than a quarter devote to Sardinia in order to pair the traditional earthy flavors as well seafood influence of Sardinia cuisine.   • "The manager was a perverted,inappropriate man.From waiting in the bar through the entire meal he was telling us tales of his about himself and his marriage.He is not professional or necessary in any regard. We asked the hostess to get us a cab.Then she called a cab and said it was a limo,but should be the same fare as the cab we had arrived in.It was not the same.It was not even double.It was an entire scam!When we got back to the hotel we called the restaurant.We again talked to the hostess and she said that the horrible manager would be calling us back.We never heard another word.I would NEVER go to this place again! Super loud,expensive, terrible management and then scammed on the ride home."

The roasted calamari dish was the best I've ever had in North America and the best that I can recall in recent memory. All the dishes were outstanding in their flavors and preparation.   • "Came with 2 others & we all enjoyed our meal very much. My husband who hates octupus loved the octopus appetizer. The squid appetizer was good one. The pasta dish with fish roe tasted heavenly. The squid ink pasta was pretty good too. The pork entree, prepared much like a veal scalopine, was very tasty and the portion was ample. Two shortcomings: Lengthy wine list but none of the wines are from local wineries. Corkage fee is $35 - a real shocker. I recalled seeing 3 desserts on the menu - one is a gelato and another a sorbet. They need to extend their dessert repertoire. Overall, highly recommend this place."

  • "I've always liked this restaurant. My wife loves it. I have never understood how it managed to morph from a former pizza parlor at the far end of Noe Valley to a place of cult status [I have a friend who travels from Taiwan just to eat here!]. The food is good, but that seems crazy. One of the things that I most liked about the restaurant was the graciousness of the hostess, one of the owners I believe. She has been replaced by someone of only limited competence (hence my reduction of score for service). Otherwise, the food is pretty much the same - authentic Sardinian food and wines. The authenticity is what makes it special, I suppose, in an era when restaurants compete to see what bizarre combinations of foods they can think up. "

  • "My 3rd visit and this place just is superlative. I love the way it's way up the JLine metro past Delores Park. Very fine quisine and they help with the excellent Italian wine list. Whenever I see an opening here I change plans and go-it is booked almost all the time. Superb."

  • "Finally got a reservation for La Ciccia. Much overrated with good food, but nothing great. Very nice waiter, helpful and attentive. The main dislike is the actual space. Too many tables way too close to one another. We had to sit next to another couple and heard everything they were saying. It was a Wednesday evening and since the place is sooo small we were given a table right in the doorway of the kitchen since at 6:3o the place was completely full. The special moscatelli with veal and pork sounded good, but I've had much better. The hype was much better than our experience."

  • "One of the best meals I've had! Reservations seem to be a must. I made them in their website. The only time I could get was 945 but made note to call if they could get us in earlier. I got a gracious call that they could get us in an hour and half earlier. The staff and owners were so kind. Fantastic food and service!! I will be back! "

  • "Wow- what a treat to know that La Ciccia is part of our Noe Valley neighborhood. It took a while to get a reservation but it was well worth the wait. The owners are delightful as is the staff. The bottarga spaghetti was outrageous as was the pasta with pork sugo. The octopus stew was spicy and a great way to start our meal. We took home the leftover sauce! The wine list is awesome- some truly unique wines from Italy and Sardinia. The owner steered us to a red from Sardinia called "Noras." At $50 it was a steal. We began our night at La Nebbia- the sister restaurant across the street. They have a nice bar and some great small plates that you can enjoy with your wine. The Nebbiolo was outstanding! We will return (to both places)!"

  • "This was our first time here after hearing about it from many sources. We were impressed with the knowledge of our server about the menu as well as the wine list. He described everything in great detail. We had an artichoke special and a beautiful salad for starters. We moved on the a pasta with bortago. and the nightly fish special which was delicious as well. Everything was prepared simply with each ingredient showcased. The only negative comment we have is the gnats. It started with one and by the end of our meal there were 5 circling our table. The table next to us had the same experience. It distracted from an otherwise perfect meal. The owners were present and checked in with everyone which was appreciated. "

We could here the annoying table behind us discussing their rendezvous in Paris while watching youtube videos. We waited almost half an hour for entree to come out only after we inquired about it. It is possible our order was lost."

  • "I love La Ciccia. Typically the food is exquisite and the service excellent. Not so on this night when, unfortunately, I'd brought some out-of-town guests. The ordinarily thick and rich octopus stew was not. The sardine appetizer and vegetables accompanying the fish special lacked the careful preparation and intensity of favors I've come to associate with La Ciccia. And the long wait between appetizers and the main course was inexplicable. But the fish special itself was tasty and well prepared, as was the pasta of the day."

A little noisy as it is a small place but don't let that deter you from trying this family owned business. The lamb is the best though the fish and octopus dishes are great too.   • "Tired of the big name/big chef San Francisco marquis restaurants, we tried La Ciccia - the small storefront Sardinian restaurant in Noe Valley. It was the best meal I have had in years! Intimate surroundings (a little too warm and crowded), an excellent selection of Italian and especially Sardinian wines and attentive yet relaxed service. The appetizers: fresh grilled baby calamari, spicy octopus stew and ultra-fresh grilled sardines were to die for! The lamb, pork and pasta dishes were equally remarkable. Take it from an experienced local diner, this was a true gem not to be missed!"

  • "La Ciccia prepares food in a style from Sardinia. It is unlike any food I have had before in the sense that the preparation and flavors are unique and delicious. I had sardines followed by a lamb dish. Both were very tasty. My wife had calamari which was baked. It was delicious and she raved about it all night. We have both eaten calami many times and I would have to agree with her. All in all a very pleasant evening."

  • "I had been looking forward to dining at La Ciccia for some time, and it did not disappoint. The food and service were outstanding, and the wine list extensive. Our server, Philip, did a terrific job guiding us through the menu. We had the squid and octopus starters, both amazing (octopus gets four stars...the sauce is to die for), two pastas--both out-of-this-world delicious, and a pork entree. We also had the green salad, which was refreshing. All in all, we could have omitted the entree, and still left stuffed. Make a reservation NOW!"

  • "I didn't know what it was either! Unique dishes in terms of prep and flavoring; similar to some general Italian but, many that I've never encountered before. Calamari appetizer had whole, large squid in a delicious sauce. The fish special grilled to perfection with an olive topping to die for. The wine list is huge. Since most were not wines we were familiar with, we asked our fabulous waiter for a recommendation that was fabulous. Since I live in the neighborhood, I've been there before but, the food just gets better every time I go. The owners are sweethearts as well."
