The Service and food were outstanding. We were served by multiple individuals (they approach each table as a team) and all were knowledgeable and attentive. They were particularly nice with our kids (10 and 5). The dishes were all very well prepared and presented: oven baked squid starter and Albacore Tuna main course were perfectly cooked. The pork and lamb were also nicely done, one of the best lamb chops I have had anywhere! If you are looking for a kid-friendly dish, go for the gnochetti w Pork sagu, which is without chili powder. The wine list is expansive enough but more importantly, well-suited for the cuisine. Beginning with fresh prosciutto with a grape vinaigrette reduction. Followed by our main courses of lamb chops (perfectly seasoned and cooked), the amazing gnochetii (our favorite here), and spaghettusu with garlic and salted fish roe, an incredible linguine with prosciutto and veal, and expert sides of cauliflower and onion, broccoli and olives. We finished with the gelato trio and the saffron cakes. Both were sublime. The wine was Sardinian, red, and perfectly matched by our waiter.
Easily a top 5 restaurant in SF, with service and ambiance to match an authentic meal with innovative and feah ingredients. To say that it lived up to all of the glowing reviews is an understatement. From the moment you walk in everyone is welcoming and friendly. I wanted to try everything but once we put in out order of calamari, stewed octopus and two pastas our server told us no main course because it would be too much food. He was right. Once we started on our delicious pasta dishes after devouring the delicious appetizers we were stuffed mid way but it was so awesome we pushed on and finished. Dessert? Oh yes please! A few years back, we fell in love with the food while eating at a Sardinian restaurant in Milan... and have not found another one since. La Ciccia is a true gem, where the food is the main attraction but everything else from service to wine list to ambience only enhances the entire experience. We loved the fresh burrata appetizer, octopus stew, pasta with bottarga, and langostines. All of which are MUST-eats. I was there many years ago, when La Ciccia first opened, and the quality has gone noticeably downhill. The mussels and clams appetizer was considerably over-salted, the pane carasau tasted heavily of flour, the lamb entree was so undercooked we couldn't eat it, and the ricotta and saffron cake was dry. The octopus appetizer and the veal ragù were delicious, but considering the total bill I really hoped all the dishes would have lived up to expectations. First, we showed up early, and while they did not have our table, when we came back about 10 minutes before our reservation, she was able to seat us. Our waitress was so helpful and patient, helping us with a wine list that was unfamiliar. Then the food. The pasta was piping hot and delicious, the ahi tuna special was a perfect portion and cooked perfectly. We had the ricotta cake and while we were so full when we left, it was the perfect finish to a lovely meal. But the octopus was cooked so well, and the flavor of the sauce was something I wanted to soak up with all of the delicious soft fresh bread. We also had two specials - a white pizza with raddichio, salami, and fresh cheese (never had raddichio that I liked but this was cooked perfectly), and a lamb and goat pasta that I could eat every night! We also tried the prawns (delicious but extremely hard to eat), and the lamb chops (wow!!!). THe server was extremely friendly and helpful when selecting wines from the extensive wine list.
