  • "I love La Ciccia. Typically the food is exquisite and the service excellent. Not so on this night when, unfortunately, I'd brought some out-of-town guests. The ordinarily thick and rich octopus stew was not. The sardine appetizer and vegetables accompanying the fish special lacked the careful preparation and intensity of favors I've come to associate with La Ciccia. And the long wait between appetizers and the main course was inexplicable. But the fish special itself was tasty and well prepared, as was the pasta of the day."

  • "Worth the ride on the J train to go here. Food is outstanding and different. Service is most attentive. A little noisy as it is a small place but don't let that deter you from trying this family owned business. The lamb is the best though the fish and octopus dishes are great too. One note of caution- the portions are huge! Go and enjoy."

  • "We found the staff very gracious even though our guests were 30 minutes late. I was very impressed with wine list that was loade with wines from Sardegna to match their food (over 200 wines on the list). We had an inexpensive white from Sardegna called Calaluna which I recommend."

  • "Tired of the big name/big chef San Francisco marquis restaurants, we tried La Ciccia - the small storefront Sardinian restaurant in Noe Valley. It was the best meal I have had in years! Intimate surroundings (a little too warm and crowded), an excellent selection of Italian and especially Sardinian wines and attentive yet relaxed service. The appetizers: fresh grilled baby calamari, spicy octopus stew and ultra-fresh grilled sardines were to die for! The lamb, pork and pasta dishes were equally remarkable. Take it from an experienced local diner, this was a true gem not to be missed!"

  • "Smaller neighborhood place with extraordinary food. First course pasta dishes are quite large and can easily be shared by two."

  • "Just absolutely delicious food. The spaghetti with bottarga is perfect. Specials are always interesting and sublime."

  • "the food here is always outstanding and the welcome is warm. they do a fabulous job with seafood dishes. I would be here every week if I could get in!"

  • "La Ciccia prepares food in a style from Sardinia. It is unlike any food I have had before in the sense that the preparation and flavors are unique and delicious. I had sardines followed by a lamb dish. Both were very tasty. My wife had calamari which was baked. It was delicious and she raved about it all night. We have both eaten calami many times and I would have to agree with her. All in all a very pleasant evening."

  • "I had been looking forward to dining at La Ciccia for some time, and it did not disappoint. The food and service were outstanding, and the wine list extensive. Our server, Philip, did a terrific job guiding us through the menu. We had the squid and octopus starters, both amazing (octopus gets four stars...the sauce is to die for), two pastas--both out-of-this-world delicious, and a pork entree. We also had the green salad, which was refreshing. All in all, we could have omitted the entree, and still left stuffed. Make a reservation NOW!"

  • "I don't think there was anything on the menu we could have found--or found better prepared--within 50 miles. Really unique, good food, proud of what they offer without being stuffy."

  • "I didn't know what it was either! Unique dishes in terms of prep and flavoring; similar to some general Italian but, many that I've never encountered before. Calamari appetizer had whole, large squid in a delicious sauce. The fish special grilled to perfection with an olive topping to die for. The wine list is huge. Since most were not wines we were familiar with, we asked our fabulous waiter for a recommendation that was fabulous. Since I live in the neighborhood, I've been there before but, the food just gets better every time I go. The owners are sweethearts as well."

  • "Authentic and delicious. We were 2 couples. We sampled and highly recommend the octopus stew and grilled calamari apps, the lamb and prawns as seconding and the sublime, subtle signature spaghetti and the fregola. Also, ricotta dessert. Outstanding service and excellent selection of Sardinian wine. Enjoy!"

  • "My Wife and I had seen a review of La Ciccia on the PBS program "Check, Please! Bay Area" and decided to give it a test drive. Little did we know that the waiting list was literally months long! So, we took the first available Saturday night. A month later, with our two Italian best friends in tow, we walk in the front door instantly to be transported to Sardinia! All I can say is, from FOOD to SERVICE to WINE LIST, this gem of a restaurant did not disappoint. Treat yourself to a little piece of heaven and go! Do not pass go or collect $200 dollars. Just grab the next available opening! You won't regret it..."

  • "is there a new chef in the kitchen . the dinner lacked the consistent goodness we had come to associate with La Ciccia. It was a disappointment"

  • "I went to La Ciccia with great expectations. Unfortunately my expectations were not met. Our waiter was nice and quite helpful, but the food served mostly did not measure up. There was a "heavy" feel to the food.... that left us feeling heavy the next morning. There are any number of restaurants in the Bay Area that serve a better combinations of mediteranian food. Our experience was OK, I would not go back ."

  • "Well this is simply how we felt after this sublime dinning experience. The calamari was fresh and rich, the pasta almost made me cry it was so good, and the lamb succulent. Truly an outstanding meal"

  • "Unlike many SF restaurants LaCiccia has managed to keep its food quite good despite the success of the restaurant. Formerly everything was made in house, but with success those things are made outside but by La Cuccia's standards, but it hasn't affected the food too much. We had mortadella (excellent), not as recherché as home made salumi. The flat bread was great, but the regular bread was not so hot. Everything else was perfect: sauces, fish, pasta, meats. As someone who has been to Sardina twice, and dined in Sicily, Corsica, all over France and Italy, for SF La Ciccia succeeds in giving a taste of the Mediterranean without the airfare."

  • "We went to La Ciccia on a great recommendation from a friend, in combination with the high ratings on yelp and open table, and I truly and dumbfounded as to how so many people can love this place. The food was basic and bland, everything lacked seasoning and flavor. When we tried to talk to our server about the food he explained everything away and would walk off before we could really say anything. The wine was fine. We've had much better wine (and food) at 20 Spot and St. Vincent. I know everyone is crazy about this place, but don't waste your time or money."

  • "Service was wonderful. The waiter was extremely knowledgeable about wine and specials. He very carefully decanted an old red wine that we brought. We thought the $35 corkage fee was too high but when we ordered a bottle off of the menu the fee was waved. The menu was very eclectic and everything was delicious. We will definitely return!"

  • "Don't be turned off by the fact that you have to book a few weeks out to get a reservation at a decent time. Just do it. You won't be disappointed. From the friendly greeting by Lorella to the incredibly nice waitstaff to the fabulously delicious Sardinian fare, this restaurant delivers in every area. Tables are close together but my beau and I lucked up and scored a table for four next to a wall. (I chalk it up to speaking Italian to Lorella upon arrival.) My beau is a picky eater (no meat or shellfish) but thoroughly enjoyed his trout. I devoured a huge plate of flavorful gnochetti after enjoying thinly sliced mortadella with a touch of spice thanks to the red peppers on top. Brilliant idea! Can't wait to return, no matter the time."

  • "If you're in San Francisco, be sure to check out La Ciccia and their new restaurant, La Nebbia. Both are excellent! Be sure to make La Ciccia reservations well in advance. La Nebbia does not accept reservations."

  • "This is one of our favorite Italian restaurants in SF. We've never had anything less than excellent and that's a step below the typical mouth-watering level of their food. You have to make reservations waaaaay ahead of time and you often have to wait after your reservation time for your table. Lots of tables in a relatively small space so the noise level is high. Great wines at moderate prices, all of their prices are moderate which is nice considering how popular they are. We miss the days before this gem was found and you could contemplate walking in late and trying to get a table."

  • "It has taken me this long to dine at La Ciccia. What a wonderful experience. The food was outstanding, the service fun and the wine list exceptional(a little over my head to be honest but Philip did a great job recommending exceptional wines. Any person who calls themselves a "foodie" needs to fine at La Ciccia."

  • "We had an early reservation at La Ciccia and were happy to be there when the doors opened that evening. The atmosphere was really familial and we enjoyed all the food, ESPCIALLY the house made pastas. Had fun with the Italian beer and wine list, and the cheese and honey dessert sampler."

  • "Had dinner with 4 friends at a packed and energetic La Ciccia! We were promptly seated since we had Open Table reservations, while others waited. The baby octopus in a tomato broth is always a must and perfect dipping the dense bread that comes gratis. The calamare was also sublime. Our waitress was spot on with a choice of Vermentino wine to go with the bold red California wine I brought for dinner. She also suggested sharing of dishes which worked out great because the portions of the main dishes were surprisingly large and perfect for sharing. I thought the lamb was delicious and had a bite to it. This was my third time at La Ciccia and the first for my friends. All of us thoroughly enjoyed the dinner! Grazie!"

  • "I finally made it to La Ciccia and am so glad I did. Arrived at 6:30 to find the restaurant completely packed and bustling. Gracious host who seated us right away. We had a so-so table by the kitchen but promptly forgot about it with an excellent server and awesome food. The octopus stew was amazing, big enough for two. Spicy with just enough brininess from the baby octpus, which were so tender. We also had the spaghetti with Bottarga and the Sardine special which was an app but large enough for an entree. The ricottta cake with hony and almondds was perfect with a little moscato. Food came out at a reasonable pace and the service was quite attentive. Such a great alternative to the usual Cal-ital in the city."

  • "The food and wine at La Ciccia are amazing. We are always on the look out for authentic Italian and although we haven't been to Sardegna, the food definitely follows the same philosophies as food we've eaten in Liguria and the Campania coastal areas. The wine list is mind blowing with a focus on Sardegna wines with additional wines from other parts of Italy. There were more than a dozen options for Vermentino. It's definitely worth the trip but it's tiny so be sure to make a reservation well in advance."

  • "While the food was delicious and the service spectacular - it's pretty cramped. I don't recall how many times I was bumped into, accidentally jabbed, and heard 'excuse me, sorry!' but, it is San Francisco...we're jammed in here."
