La Ciccia is a cozy and intimate restaurant located on the edge of Noe Valley. Husband and wife owners, Massimiliano Conti and Lorella Degan work together to take you to a culinary journey through the Italian island of Sardinia. The chef is committed to use the freshest and the most authentic ingredients from his native island, resulting in pungent, lively, flavorful food. The all Italian wine list,170 labels selection represent every Region with more than a quarter devote to Sardinia in order to pair the traditional earthy flavors as well seafood influence of Sardinia cuisine.   • "The restaurant is small, seating is cramped, parking is difficult at the Noe Valley location, and it is not easy to get reservations, BUT the food is absolutely excellent. The restaurant has one of the best kitchens in the Bay Area. Sauces are light and delicate. Try the octopus appetizer/first plate - excellent. The serving is large enough to share with your dining companion. Thankfully the wait staff is helpful and can pair appropriate wines with your selected courses. The menu has over 200 Sardinian wines and beers, of which we knew nothing about 99% of them. The restaurant has won awards from the Wine Spectator magazine for their excellent wine list. Award certificates are displayed on a wall in the unisex restroom!!!"

  • "We were disappointed this time around. We have eaten here 3 times previously and been very impressed. This time: 1. Octopus stew so spicy we all were miserable. This is the 3rd time I've had this stew. 2. The lamb served with cabbage and fennel had been over dosed with fennel and we kept biting into fennel seeds in addition to the fennel in the cabbage. It was far too strong, overpowering the rest of the dish. 3. We had a trio of gelati for dessert and one had goat cheese in it. Oye ! ! ! The quality of the food seems to be going down hill. I don't think we'll go again."

  • "We were warmly and efficiently taken care of by Philip, who chose a selection of house standouts for us, paired with Sardinian wines by the glass. The latter, being warm climate wines, not always have enough acidity to counter the spiciness. Calamari and octopus were superb, same for the pasta with botarga, not quite so much for the veal. Some tables have a better view of the room than others, but the food and service guaranteed a memorable evening, to be repeated on our next visit to SF."

  • "I'm Italian and an excellent cook. The only time I care to eat at an Italian restaurant is if we go to La Ciccia. Their octopus stew is excellent and reminiscent of my childhood. Their lamb dishes are always fantastic and their artisan pasta is always perfectly cooked with the best sauces. Lorella never disappoints with her wine choices and both she and her husband and chef, Massimiliano, always greet their guests warmly and make you feel like family. This restaurant is one of my children's favorite places to go as well and it doesn't hurt one bit that it's within walking distance of my home so if we overserve ourselves--in both viands and libation--easy to do--we can safely stroll down the street."

  • "La Ciccia is a neighborhood gem. Remarkable Sardinian menu and well prepared. The wait staff was courteous, but most of all the wine list was the best for italian wines that I have seen. It is very hard to get a good cannanau, but this lit has at least 15 of the best. The pastas were outstantding and unusual for San Francisco. I thought that I was in Sardinia and I have been. Coming back!"

Everything was fresh and had great flavor. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone wanting to enjoy a very good meal :)"

  • "We've been to La Ciccia perhaps 9 times over the years. The first few visits were absolutely stellar in every detail. Starting in 2011 and continuing through 2012, we noted an unfortunate decline in food and service quality as the restaurant became more popular. We considered giving up on La Ciccia, but have been heartened to see the place bounce back a bit over the last year. On our last visit, the food was quite good (although seasoning across the board needed a boost). Service was mostly good, but dropped off as the crowd gathered. We waited quite a while for the check, too ... always annoying. However, we will return."

  • "Came with 2 others & we all enjoyed our meal very much. My husband who hates octupus loved the octopus appetizer. The squid appetizer was good one. The pasta dish with fish roe tasted heavenly. The squid ink pasta was pretty good too. The pork entree, prepared much like a veal scalopine, was very tasty and the portion was ample. Two shortcomings: Lengthy wine list but none of the wines are from local wineries. Corkage fee is $35 - a real shocker. I recalled seeing 3 desserts on the menu - one is a gelato and another a sorbet. They need to extend their dessert repertoire. Overall, highly recommend this place."

I have never understood how it managed to morph from a former pizza parlor at the far end of Noe Valley to a place of cult status [I have a friend who travels from Taiwan just to eat here!]. The food is good, but that seems crazy. One of the things that I most liked about the restaurant was the graciousness of the hostess, one of the owners I believe. She has been replaced by someone of only limited competence (hence my reduction of score for service). Otherwise, the food is pretty much the same - authentic Sardinian food and wines. The authenticity is what makes it special, I suppose, in an era when restaurants compete to see what bizarre combinations of foods they can think up. "

  • "Finally got a reservation for La Ciccia. Much overrated with good food, but nothing great. Very nice waiter, helpful and attentive. The main dislike is the actual space. Too many tables way too close to one another. We had to sit next to another couple and heard everything they were saying. It was a Wednesday evening and since the place is sooo small we were given a table right in the doorway of the kitchen since at 6:3o the place was completely full. The special moscatelli with veal and pork sounded good, but I've had much better. The hype was much better than our experience."

  • "Wow- what a treat to know that La Ciccia is part of our Noe Valley neighborhood. It took a while to get a reservation but it was well worth the wait. The owners are delightful as is the staff. The bottarga spaghetti was outrageous as was the pasta with pork sugo. The octopus stew was spicy and a great way to start our meal. We took home the leftover sauce! The wine list is awesome- some truly unique wines from Italy and Sardinia. The owner steered us to a red from Sardinia called "Noras." At $50 it was a steal. We began our night at La Nebbia- the sister restaurant across the street. They have a nice bar and some great small plates that you can enjoy with your wine. The Nebbiolo was outstanding! We will return (to both places)!"

I got a gracious call that they could get us in an hour and half earlier. The staff and owners were so kind. Fantastic food and service!! I will be back! "

  • "This was our first time here after hearing about it from many sources. We were impressed with the knowledge of our server about the menu as well as the wine list. He described everything in great detail. We had an artichoke special and a beautiful salad for starters. We moved on the a pasta with bortago. and the nightly fish special which was delicious as well. Everything was prepared simply with each ingredient showcased. The only negative comment we have is the gnats. It started with one and by the end of our meal there were 5 circling our table. The table next to us had the same experience. It distracted from an otherwise perfect meal. The owners were present and checked in with everyone which was appreciated. "

And I loved the wait staff and hosts. They were very welcoming. Even though I think we may have been the only people there for the first time. I will definitely go back!"
